How would you rate FM7 (if it had been released today)

Probably a 3/10 . If I had waited to buy it like I planned i probably wouldn’t have bought it after seeing all the bugs , specialty vendor repeats , and lack of American car dlc

On release I’d give it a 7 for it’s content rich but bugged package. I’m not really an online player so none of that other jazz really applies to me, every now and then I’ll pop up online to see what all the hype is about. As of now it gets a 8.5 from me. Im digging all these nice updates and nice overall selection of dlc cars. The only things that keep it from a 9-10 is that there’s still bugs and annoyances they have yet to deal with like the headlights during the day and random cars headlights being on/off, many car engine and exhaust sounds are still inaccurate, incorrect slow and missed gear shift animations, and the overall lighting on some tracks still suck. Plus the still occasional freezing or glitching. If they iron those things out Forza 7 would no doubt be a 10.

Forza Motorsport 7 is one of my most played Forza (and in general) games. I guess that must mean I rate it pretty highly. I loved it on release but now I really love it.

My 4/10 would be a 8-9/10 if I could actually play the game on my PC without it crashing all the time even though I have more than the minimum specs and just below the recommended.

6/10 as is. It’s still worthy of replay due to controller driving mechanics and cars. Also it doesnt hurt the developer is actively trying to improve.

4/5 single player and 2/5 multiplayer. Honestly itll be a solid 7 if class leaderboards could be populated from class races and if there was 30s more between races due to slow load times.

The update for penalties and such may bring it to an 8. Any higher is probably unlikely without some sort of update that blows everyone’s minds. Granted if you’re not an OG 360 era player add 1 point to everything I just said.

At the time of release it was a fair bit rough, but I can’t comment on that beyond what I’ve read. No Forzathon, no Auction House, no Leagues and, more importantly, worse VIP rewards.

I’ve always had fun with the package itself since I started playing in December last year but it’s my understanding that Turn 10 had handled the product very poorly up until June, give or take. I mean, from a gameplay perspective I’ve found it enjoyable, worthy of a high grade, but the support had been terrible up until Turn 10 decided to roll up the sleeves and make FM7 what it was supposed to be.

Still plenty of things to fix but, if there will be no FM8 in 2019, then there’s also at least a year worth of bugfixes, which makes me hopeful. In FH3, the devs actually decided to leave some bugs as they were due to certain complications and, as a result, not only those bugs never got fixed, but also some of them carried over to FM7 (Challenger Hellcat having 395mm rear tires for example).

Of course, what makes me less than hopeful is still seeing stuff like the driver’s feet going through the floorpan in the Porsche 718 RS 60, or the permanent Race front bumper in the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0, stuff they’ve known for a long time and haven’t fixed yet.

So it was an 8.5 in December and currently 9 for me.

Also the old style storefront was far superior

That and better ways to filter for tunes and paints. It’s amazing that sorting tunes and paints by most liked/highest rated, most used, most downloaded, oldest, newest, or trending aren’t options when you did have most of these options in Forza 4.

Of course hidden gems were out there but if you needed a solid tune or paint ASAP, you could find it by messing with these sort options.

3/10 at release
4/10 a few months later
6/10 today and still not even close to the great FM4

As far as I’m concerned:

  • Manufacturer/car scrolling still lags and freezes thanks to the useless 3D cars and 3D backgrounds (Dear Turn 10, if you can’t guarantee smooth menus, even for us mere mortals with basic Xbox One’s, just don’t use 3D elements!!). Sometimes you’re also kicked out of the lobby if the system takes too long, or fails, to load the car, or environment, or both.
  • Black loading screen between races is awfully long
  • Still not enough time between races to change car, setup, driving aids, reporting, muting etc… Basically I have 20 seconds, and it’s just to rapidly change to an all-around car and setup for all tracks
  • Still no justice for being wrecked and rammed all the time (waiting for penalties…)
  • People still cut corners and go wide to get an advantage (waiting for penalties…)
  • To determine if a new lap is clean or not, are taken into account the last 3 or 4 corners, instead of just the last sector/corner before the new lap. Outrageous and it makes no sense.
  • Some new track limits are shockingly bad. And T10 why did you have to ruin the flow of Prague, which is a fictional track?
  • Horrible lag causing unwanted collisions between cars
  • Lapped and idle cars are still not ghosted
  • Sick and tired of all the VIR variations coming up in every lobby when people vote random
  • Rain is gone in S class lobbies, we just get mist
  • Still headlights off at night from time to time
  • Still broken gamechat. For 5 minutes you can talk and hear everybody, and for the next 20 minutes radio silence for all
  • Vote to kick still doesn’t work, you need at least 50% of the people in the lobby to vote for that one person and basically it will never happen. And the vote system is still hidden, unlike in Forza 3 and 4. People could see the vote on screen and CONTRIBUTE. What do you say? Trolls abused it and still would so that the vote to kick gets busy to kick the wrong person? Make multiple vote to kick for different people at the same time, then we see who gets kicked and who doesn’t.
  • Still no dirt tracks after all the SUVs that we were given…both free and paid with the surprise-gamepass. I know we won’t get them in Forza 7 and it’s just stupid. T10 missed a big chance
  • Setup and livery “storefront” (the old one from FM4 was amazing) makes no sense: favourite tuners/painters don’t show first all the time and voting system is broken. Also after you scroll a few setups, you won’t be able to load the ones on the right.

And I’m sure I’m forgetting many things.

I personally think too much comparison goes on between X version of Forza and previous iterations.

We all expect x feature to be in the next game because it was in the last game (or the game before that, or the game before that).

If people objectively looked at fm7 as a standalone title, I suspect the ratings would be higher.

If a different company had launched this game, would people still be only giving 6/10? I don’t think so, they’d be embracing the new features and eagerly anticipating the next instalment.

That’s my 2 cents

I couldn’t agree with this more. It’s different when people assume x feature will be in a game, despite it’s never been in a previous version before, and then it’s not there upon release, despite hype and maybe false hope from developers.

But when a game offers attractive features that define it, and in some cases drives people away from other franchises to join them, then next thing they do is remove this said feature, then you can expect people to complain. Really, whether you’re new to the franchise or not.

As I mentioned, I am pretty much new to Forza and only played FM3, FM4, FM6 and FH3, besides this game (in a span of three years). If this was my first Forza, I would rate it probably 9/10, if not a clean 10 just for the presentation, controls, wheel support, car roster and so on. But having a taste of previous Forza Motorsports, and experiencing that which drew me towards Forza, is missing or being butchered, then of course I will set it lower than its predecessors.

It’s kinda scary that Forza is starting to do what made me abandon Gran Turismo after 15 years of loyalty. The only difference with Forza, is that T10 does seem to care and act very quickly to address their fan’s concerns.

Isnt that what Project Cars is, a new standalone title?

The whole reason you have sequels and franchise is because it’s a known quantity, FM7 is supposed to be like previous games.

If FM7 was the first game, it wouldnt bring with it the baggae of 1 thru 6 but there would certainly be expectations regarding 8.

But that’s exactly the point the remove features and then expect people to be ok with it. Then add them back when the outcry is big enough and want applause for it. If you are going to have a multigenerational title it should improve with each iteration, but this series mostly sidesteps or baby steps forward and then back sometimes more than they stepped forward, sometimes less. Do you think cod, halo, etc dont get the same sort of abuse when they make steps backwards? Think about when the futuristic cod came out with the space suits etc. Many complained and then all of a sudden the next game didnt have any of those features.

I have no problem with people complaining about favourite features being missing from previous titles - it’s just we have a massive culture of negativity on these forums.

I’ve been guilty of it myself, hands up, it does happen.

The thing is a lot of the players who still have 100’s of hours in to the game, still consider it to be poor - simply because some features are absent that were included in previous (mainly xbox360) versions. Why invest that much time in a game you are actually calling out as below par?

Because there still isnt a racing game that plays better on a pad on console?

I would be curious if you could pull the data of hours played for each player from forza 3 to forza 7 what the decline in hours is.

My guess is it would be more hours in to FM3 but only if you included time painted - for some reason they left that out of the stats at some point. You get time spent tuning, test driving, driving etc but lost time in the livery editor.

See I can do it too!

Thing is, I spend more time driving on FM7 than I did on FM3 I might even boot up the 360 tomorrow, to compare miles driven. I’d bet it’d be close if not more on FM7 without even a year gone by.

& to be fair, you didn’t answer my question, if you took it as a standalone title, would you still rate it as low? You flipped my argument, which I guess I should have considered but I still think my point is valid.

For me it’s the opposite.
In Forza 3 and 4 I could play for HOURS. Today I just do a couple of races and then I quit.
Why? 3 main reasons: boredom + lack of good tracks (and excess of VIR variations and small pointless tracks in high classes with too many laps)+ lack of justice for unsporting behavior.

I actually counted 5 reasons.

Almost but not quite.

The same could be said of Forza 1 to 6.

You race events from an arbitrary selection of events until you have enough points or levels to open the next selection of arbitrary events which at no point do you even have to win. How you do in one event has no bearing on the next event or even if you can advance to the next.

At least in 4 you started in Season “1” which ended in a championship race series and progressed thru season 7 but you never had to win those to advance either.
