How Does Turn 10 Decides What Cars Will be in Monthly Car Packs?

I don’t know if this is already a topic that has been covered, but since the recent Alpinestars Car Pack I was wondering how exactly Turn 10 comes up with these car packs. Seeing how the Aztek was recently added with negative feedback from majority of the community and I’ve skimmed some of the car wishlist pages, I dunno how they decide how they’ll add 7 vehicles with over 100+ pages of suggestions, wishes and requests. With so many different vehicles that could be added to the game, I’m sure it’s gotta be stressful for the Turn 10 Staff / Developers to release just 7 vehicles for a car pack, knowing not everyone will not be pleased. But is it decided by what they think they should be added or by a few of the vehicles that are requested in the wishlist thread? A Cadillac Limo, a Pontiac Aztek, Transit Vans, etc., does Turn 10 go through every single page of the car wishlist thread to determine what’ll be featured in a pack next? Share your thoughts and if this has already been posted, mods please feel free to lock this thread.

I believe that all the cars for every carpack has been choosen before/close to the launch of FM6.
The wishlist may just be used as an indication of what people want, and Turn10 may take some of those cars into consideration for the next game.

Pre-defined carpacks.

At least, that’s how i think it works…

That’s how mainstream games typically work; DLC concepts are factored into the game’s business plan and approved along with the product itself.

I have a feeling the wishlist is just there so that there aren’t a million threads on the forum saying “I want car X and Y.” I doubt it has much effect on what Turn 10 does or doesn’t do.

it all comes back to what’s available. and contracts between manufactures AND what the majority wants.
cars that we wan’t today in the wishlist may ore may not appear in the future FM’s. but what we want in the game TODAY is most likely not to appear in FM6 but rather FM7 ore FM8 and so on…
And at the same time T10 tries to give cars for everyone. not just the guys who want racecars and not just the guys who want the newest supercar models.
so there I think u have the explanation of why we get the limo and the Aztek etc…

Am I missing something? I didn’t catch an overwhelming amount of negative feedback for the Aztek’s existence in the game…

it has been discussed in several treads… both positive feedback and negative. that’s pretty much how every car packs goes! lol…

First of all, the people who comment on Forza stuff online are not actually “the majority” of the community, regardless of what they say. There are far fewer forum members and Facebook commenters than there are people playing the game. I’d just like to get that out of the way first, since you seem to have started the thread based on the assumption that including the Aztek was a mistake.

The following is what I understand after being on these forums for several years:

T10 is constantly creating (via outsourcing) new cars for the game;
T10 really does look at the wishlists to gauge popular opinion on what cars people want included, but they also read auto journalism and pay attention to what’s “hot” on the car scene.
T10 uses these sources to determine what cars they want to add to the game, in the long run.
T10 does plan in advance what cars each DLC will contain, but these plans are subject to change. For example, one FM4 DLC was originally slotted to feature the Camaro ZL1, even as close to the DLC’s launch as the Clue Thread. But when the model for the Mustang Boss 302 was completed, they replaced the ZL1 with a different car they already had done so that they could release the 302 and the ZL1 simultaneously.

So, in short, the cars that will be added to the game are already set in stone. The lineups of each individual DLC are subject to change.
FM6 seems to be something of an oddity in terms of DLC in that each pack is completely new-to-the-franchise content (Not seen since FM4), and that each pack seems to have had a set balance of car types. Usually 2 race cars (one older, one newer), a classic sports car, an “oddball” that contributed to car culture in a significant way (Prowler, Fury, Aztek, et cetera), something from Japan… FM6’s DLC embodies the “something for everyone” philosophy more than ever.

Well firstly they have to consider which cars they are licensed to use because I believe many of the cars like hummers, vans and even limos are probably included in the game as part of the licensing agreements they have signed as they will undoubtedly have to use the garbage to also get to include the best cars. Consider also the list of vehicles manufactured is far from infinite and only using the cream of the crop in the game would get boring real soon plus come on people drop a decent tune on what some call garbage and suddenly that car is a treasure. That is why the game has so many different options such as drifting and drag racing I mean have you tried to drift a limo because when it drifts my god it drifts, however I do know there is nothing worse than a wrecker in a limo, van or hummer when all you want to do is race.
Please don’t blame the fact these vehicles are in the game though because even if they weren’t the wreckers would just use Ferrari’s or Porsches to wreck, instead have some fun with these rides yourself by turning them into dragsters or drifters and have fun with them once in awhile after all it is still a game and games are made to enjoy and have fun with so why don’t we all have some fun occasionally I bet you’ll like it.

I can’t understand why they don’t just have polls for this kind of thing.
Even if it’s largely predetermined but a few aren’t.

As someone else said that we aren’t the ‘majority’ of players, well I would argue that those guys wouldn’t even have the season pass.

That’s exactly the point. Most pf the people on these boards already paid for the DLC, so (at least in theory) it doesn’t really matter whether they get what they want. It’s the people who haven’t paid for it yet, they’re trying to draw in people who haven’t bought the car pass.

there are ALLOT of People With different car taste. offcourse T10 need to make Money to go forward. however i do not think they choose the cars in the dlc for the People who not jet have bought it. The DLC’s in FM6 clearly shows their best effort ever so far to satisfy as many as posible. I have to say that i am impressed. even when there are cars that i only drive once. i Guess i’m getting to old for complaits when i only peronally liked 2-3 of 7 cars… and it doesnt really matter(oh yes it does if you are spoiled and thinks that everything is about you)

take me for an example. i am the only one in my ‘‘crew’’ who actually pay attention to the FM forums. and we all have different car taste. and they buy the DLC’s they want and some bought the ultimate edition. i Guess my point is the other guys who never speak up their mind in here should not have their voices heard? I think they do. we all have some cars we want in common but in the large Picture we would come up With total different cars if we all were to make a racing game With 400 cars… If you think that you would please every driver if you had the responsibilty to choose the cars you are wrong. you would upset so many People for Your Choices… be happy With what u get ore go home i guess… it’s life! it’s not fair. the sooner you Accept that fact the better…

There is a longer lead time between decisions to include a car and it being ready for release than many gamers realise.

Hmmmm not sure.

Maybe T10 does it very Scientific. They have a whole bunch of pictures of cars on a board, then blindfold someone and have them throw darts at the board. Different board for racecars, sports cars and so on.

Except that the person throwing the darts is spun in a circle a few times, asked to shotgun a beer, and then they are given the darts while interns hold up pictures of the cars up for the new DLC. This makes sense to me.

They probably just maintain some sort of master spreadsheet somewhere. When someone asks for a car in a wish thread, they either add the car to it or a “+1” if it’s been suggested before.

-k

It seem like they spin a wheel and go with whatever the needle points to.

That’s exactly NOT how cars are chosen for Forza, but it would certainly make the process easier, lol.

Nope they have a giant manatee pool with balls in representing different cars! Lol
