I bought Xbox One in November 2017 mostly for Forza Motorsport 7 as a replacement for GRID Autosport on PC. So more than a year later I’m still struggling to enjoy the game. Moreover, it pisses me off almost every time I play it in hopes to get some RACING.
Here’s how it goes when I try to enjoy the game I paid for:
GT cars (endurance lobby): join lobby with race in progresss 1/20 laps > quit, retry > join lobby /w High Latency (not my region) > quit, retry > finally join lobby in EU region where race is almost finished, let’s say 16/20 laps - perfect, there’s time to qualify > test drive 3 laps > next track is Le Mans Old layout > out of 24 players about 6 leave instantly, more than a half switches to Maserati MC to have HUGE advantage over other cars > OK, I already spent about 20 min trying to find a lobby so I won’t leave, maybe I at least will have a battle with that guy in Porsche RSR with 40+ collector level (the only indicator of drivers possible qualities) hopefully he has experience and sportsmanship in him. I refuse to switch to overpowered car so I can forget about podium. At this point only hoping I didn’t waste my time keeps me in this lobby. > race starts, somebody crashes instantly because someone was afk. You avoid it if you are lucky or very cautious and race goes on. Halfway through the race overpowered cars almost half a lap ahead and you have a nice battle with that guy you were hoping for. At least some racing, right? You earn your overtake respecting white lines. Feels good, rewarding. Let’s say on Mulsanne straight he gains on me with the help of almost not existing slipstream. You go side by side at night, epic. You notice last position ahead going half the speed he expected to have. Maybe his car broken? No. He waits for you to ruin your race by getting in your way. No luck for him as you used to it in Forza and successfully dodge him, almost crashing into your opponent. OK, last lap 5 out of 6 your ONLY opponent in this race of 18 starts cutting every corner, gaining undeserved time on you, completely eliminating the point of your presence in not only this lobby but the whole game. This means instant quitting. Not even to main menu, but straight to xbox home. At this point I wasted 20 minutes of my life to find lobby, 20+ minutes on unworthy race with 1 guy out of 18, I am angry af, and I still have a need for speed (lol) which means this game didn’t fulfill its point of existence.
Road cars (RSABCDE class hoppers): same but less dramatic, mostly I just quit after getting rammed at first corner 9 out of 10 times.
Track Day Meetups: If you are very VERY lucky you can join Nordschleife lobby and have a very nice racing with some mature people who don’t rice exotics. That happens like once in a week, if you are again VERY lucky and willeto spend half an hour finding a lobby. Mostly it’s some maple walley with kids ramming each other in F1 cars.
Drift Meetups: The climate here is much better but people don’t have any performance performance standarts so it’s kinda hard to find a partner for close tandems. No skill indicator also adds to hardships of finding a partner. These issues aren’t as big as in race lobbies, but nonetheless it wastes your time.
The only reason I didn’t switch to PS4 & GT Sport is that I already paid for a lot of games on Xbox during this time, which I dont regret as xbox is a great platform. If I had time and resources I’d probably sue them for selling FM as a racing game. See, not only this game doesn’t provide any racing but T10 tries to keep you as a customer by unworthy promises. First there was hope for Leagues. Trash. 8 month ago it was Race Regulations. Non existing. I didn’t regret buying anything more than FM7. I wouldn’t care as much if there was alternative on this platform. Assetto Corsa and Project CARS don’t have stable fps, playerbase and both to be played with a wheel. I kinda feel dumb realizing I spent $400+ on a game that only makes me angry. If I went with PS4, I would be able to play every other game (except FH, not big deal) I own on Xbox + enjoy actual racing. Racing games should teach about motorsport, instead this game promotes total chaos and disrespect on the track.
If it wasn’t for the ghost leagues, I would never play Forza Motorsport. In ghost leagues car to car collision is off so you don’t have to worry about other cars slamming into yours. You will also understand the track better this way and improve your skills.
Wow do I agree with this! I used to race a bit in FM5 in the cosmetic lobby’s FM6 was mainly freeplay, and FM7 I have really been enjoying Rivals and freeplay Oval tracks. I have several top 5’s but again ovals. If I race in league how often do my Ovals come up…very little, some with the infield tracks, but very few true Ovals. Anyway that’s not my issue, but rather on anything other than an oval, I am pretty slow and that’s by myself. I try Really hard to stay as clean as I can ( actually to the point of being more dangerous ) and not wreck someone else’s race and not that successful there either. Seems the harder I tried to stay clean the more I crashed still wrecking others race. I maybe tried it 2 or 3 times at launch and just stopped going online.
About 3-4 months ago now I tried the ghost league and just love it! Just knowing I can’t mess up someone else’s race lets me push harder and that is helping me handle the car better. If I continue to improve I may do some cosmetic league again. I am so much faster by myself and suck so much in traffic that I would never get better without ghost as I would not have raced online.
Don’t get me wrong in freeplay I love having a 24 car field unbeatable and go like h*ll but no one else’s race is risked. Ghost lets me have this same enjoyment with live competitors and it risks no one else’s race. I may eventually visit other online race events like cosmetic but won’t visit Sim for awhile so ghost will be my home for awhile yet for sure.
yes ,this game is a knife edge, if you can get into a racing group, which is a lot harder said than done, this is where its at but ive found it hard to find decent and reliable leagues since fm4.
There dont seem to be that many but i found a lot of solace in the rivals and leagues. Play more. get into a high division and try to talk to people in the lobbies, before you know it, 10 of you will club together and you can rival each other. I ran a pretty successful racing league back in fm2 days, would love to start that again as i offerd propper prizes for short race legues giving people of all abilities a bit of a chance. Was cool ,i miss those days, but i was a lot younger then and had more free time!
I just use freeplay and come up with all kinds of cool competitive races day after day. I have probably over two dozen different kinds of race set ups saved in freeplay. With many more in my head. One of them for example is formula E, touring cars and v8 supercars all on one track with 50 laps etc…
You can find ghost league under “Multiplayer” too. Currently V8 Super Cars is available there until March 1st. Ghost leagues there change every two weeks and is open 24 hours Seven days a week with all tracks including Top Gear and Nordschleife.
Ghost leagues under “Leagues” are scheduled races. They open and close at certain hours of the day. players are being placed there in the same lobby based on their skills which makes races much more competitive and enjoyable for everyone.
I used to play everyday but have been threatened 7 months ago for making liveries for ppl that either don’t have the time nor the desire to learn . So the painting and liveries was my favorite part . But that’s ok cause I’ve been busy selling custom Hotwheels car’s and they can’t ban me for that lol ! The last time I played I was trolled from the start to the finish . Why even bother ? I don’t play anymore and that’s a shame . Run me out and keep the ramming idiots … With over 300,000 downloads of my previous work and counting I thought I was a valuable contributor but apparently not so much . I probably won’t be purchasing anything from this company in the future ever again . Oh well life moves on …
stop production of race regulations because it’s a waste of time. Implement Custom Public Lobbies again and a host who can kick players. Enjoy.
A good host use to make Forza 4 fun. Keep the idiots out to go be idiots elsewhere. They literally have tag and “it” lobbies, why are the majority of these dumdums not in there? isn’t that what these lobbies where designed for? no no no…OF COURSE NOT, let me bring my Bone Shaker to the b class lobby and plow through the first corner of Suzuka west with a 100% rate. WONDERFUL.
I run a Forza Motorsport 7 Club and have great racing with my friends every Monday.
Other than that I don’t play the game at all during the week, as I feel I’ve already experienced everything I want to. There are many other gaming experiences out there for me to enjoy.
That’s not a failing of the game however, just a natural behaviour after owning it for a year and a half.
the game is in a absolute state 2 years after launch and not much has changed half the content is locked behind dlc or exclusive rubbish forzathon and the rewards in hub are now pitiful 25k are you joking? I used to get 100k-1mil+
Its like they just want you to buy car packs and credits its ludicrous
I race with some guys I’ve been racing with for about 4 years. To be honest without those guys I wouldn’t have played the game until all the non unicorn cars were made available. I don’t know what’s gone on at Turn 10 since the jump to Xbox One but it seems to be one bad decision after another. It’s like watching a close friend slowly fall into addiction and homelessness
I made the switch to GTS and I don’t regret it one bit, it’s far from perfect but Sport Mode is easily better than anything that Forza Motorsport has ever done in regards to multiplayer.
I can’t believe FM still doesn’t have custom lobby lists. GTS has this although it’s buggy and kind of bad in some ways, but it’s certainly better than what FM has to offer.
All joking aside, FM7 has a lot of really really good features and physics imo, and FFB imo. I have had the most fun racing, and seen some of the most ridiculous behaviors in the Endurance Lobby you are speaking about OP. It is definitely an event and you never know what type of race you are getting into if you are just jumping in. It is always a commitment, not always with a great outcome, which truth be told, that is racing :). That is the excitement about all the multiplayer races online.
I enjoy league racing although frustrating at times with no penalties system). I also enjoy Rivals, tag and racing with friends. FM7 is actually fun to drive. So that keeps me coming back and racing online and doing the things I enjoy.
I enjoy the multiplayer racing hoppers and pride myself on sticking out the race as cleanly as possible regardless of the finishing position outcome. Usually I’ll find some really good clean racers and after the race I’ll send a thumbs up via message and after some chats back and forth usually end up having a great racing experience. After the race I look for my name to see if I had the fastest clean lap or not. most of the time i’m the only one with a clean lap and I smile.
I’m not sure what game you will find total satisfaction in a long multiplayer public race with damage etc that isn’t called GTR2 lol…which if FM7 would just adopt or ADD that games features/capabilities/damage level slider, I guess they would win the award for the best all around everything racing game. They shouldn’t change FM7 so that it is ONLY like GTR2 - but at least ADD everything that game was good at … to FM7 :). They can remove the AI from FM7 though - they can totally replace FM7 AI with GTR2 AI :).
All in all - If they kept things exactly the same and never fix anything but keep offering cars - come out with more tracks and keep improving physics etc and adding things to the game - I’m down and will continue to play it. Do I wish they would just do everything a normal racing sim does PLUS what they are already doing - yes… yes i do wish they would do these things…GTR2 combined with FM7 = FM8 = release date 2040.
Do love the game, have been having fun playing it. Hope they never quit developing it. Although some seem to say they quit developing it after FM4…I only had FM6 and I really wasn’t a fan of that games physics/ffb so it wasn’t fun for me to drive. But this FM7 is fun to me - given the rivals / leagues / tag / friends online racing / random multiplayer hopper gold
Easy, FREE PLAY. Being able to set up your own races/events with 700 cars covering the history of motor sports to choose from is a dream come true for me. It’s not perfect and I wish they’d let the ai use custom liveries but I still play it every other day, I own FH4 but haven’t touched it yet!
