So I play free race. I see the clock tick off a number lower than the fastest lap that is shown… and it doesn’t update to the new fastest lap. This happens a lot. So I figured OK It’s saying I have not made a clean lap. Take Catalunya GP track (my proving track… lot of laps). I figured maybe the game is seeing I got 4 tires off at the 2 turns of the final chicane (probably called turns 14 & 15)… the chicane right before the sweeper onto the front straight. So I bend over bakcward to keep 2 wheels on pavement. Still my fast lap doesn’t register. Mant times it just keeps showing my out lap which is off my current lap by like 6 seconds. What is going on?
I always thought it shows the time, regardless of clean or not in “free race”. When I do hotlap it wants a clean lap to post a best time. At least that how it seems for me. I might be thinking of “Quick Race”. Where you have AI cars with you and it goes 2 laps. Hotlaps you can go as long as you want.
If you’ve posted a clen lap time for any given track, then all future times will have to be clean laps.If the laptimes are never clean then any faster will be recorded, although this doesn’t apply for Hotlaps etc.
Also worth noting if you dirty the last section of any given lap that will make the next lap dirty too. How far back this can be depends on the track but as an example a mistake in the final chicane at Catalunya will also ensure the next lap is ruined as well. For some tracks like Le Mans this is nearly half the circuit but for most it is the last few corners.
If anyone else has worked out the logic for this system feel free to let me know. I understand that if you cheat on the last couple of corners this could give advantage in following lap but to give a dirty lap for a mistake about 10 corners and many seconds before the lap does not make much sense.
Just check the indicator next to your time and if the dirty lap exclamation mark is shown that lap time will not be recorded if you have a faster clean lap already. There is also an indicator next to the previous lap time if that was dirty.
I’m not quite sure why the distance or number of corners is different track to track, but rewind does not dirty the next lap. I usually use rewind to go back to my mistake and fix it to make the next lap clean. Rivals would be a nightmare otherwise.
Interesting. I thought sometimes I got a dirty lap when I know I didn’t go off on that lap. Grrrrrrrrrrr…
pretty sure if you dirty a lap after the last checkpoint is when it will dirty the next lap. Every track has different checkpoints so gotta look out for that.
Correct - making your lap dirty after the last split time point will make the next lap dirty, with the only exception being using rewind.
It needs to be fixed. Most of my faster laps are taken as dirty when I know they aren’t. I can do perfect laps and it still shows as dirty. Its just stupid.
It levels the playing field and reduces the potential for exploited lap times. Just rewind and run the final sector clean, problem solved.
Really? I will try that…altho my faster clean laps that even show up as clean are posted on the leaderboards after the race as dirty. Infuriates me. I don’t understand that. At all.
