Ok,
I understand for the most part what will trigger the “dirty” lap indicator but i’m having it appear when I begin new laps as well, like I’ll be finishing a lap that was dirty and as I cross the finish line to end the current lap and begin the next one the dirty lap indicator is staying on applied to the new lap that just began. Due to this i’ve beat the rival quite a few times (Current track i’m testing vehicles on is Monzo Full) so the rival is actually my personal best “clean” lap and because the indicator being applied at the beginning of the lap it’s technically not registering that I beat the rival because of it.
Is this a common issue or is there certain criteria after a dirty lap to remove it or am I completely missing something?
If you dirty your lap in the last sector of the lap, the next lap is also invalidated; assumption being that something (typically bump drafting) is giving you an unfair advantage for that next lap. Rather convoluted but it’s been like that for multiple versions of Forza now. Solution is don’t invalidate laps in that last sector or enable rewind so you can backup if you do make a mistake. Rewinding can help “cleanup” a dirty final sector and will only make the current lap dirty if it is not already “dirty” from earlier sector errors.
It’s better the way it is now. It prevents anyone from attempting to find exploits to build up more speed starting a lap that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
When you’re battling for top spots, that little bit extra speed can be the difference between between you beating the top rival.
On some tracks, you very well may have a point. But there are others where I went off-track at the very beginning of the last sector, thus dirtying my next lap, and there would be no chance of gaining an unfair advantage in those cases, so perhaps it should be on a case-by-case basis, like Gran Turismo 5 & 6 and Project CARS, which would only invalidate both current and next lap times if actual corner-cutting (not just going off-track for no gain) occurred on the last few corners. Corner-cutting (at least in Project CARS) may also be called if you go into the outside off-track area fast enough to where you make the corner faster than you ever could if you stayed on the track. FYI, I keep rewind off for more credits, though maybe I would do better to have it on for Rivals events, given that I’ve got over 811m credits and nearly 1,700 unused spins.
Yea some tracks are a little weird but I’m ok with the uber conservative approach.
Rewind is your friend. If you’re going for times, it’s a life saver when you’re fingers spaz out on the last corner. I used to run no rewind but credit wise it didn’t matter because after I’m done hotlapping it’s always like 100k in the pockets.
I’d say dropping rewind at first is good if you’re forza poor though.
