Horizon Festival Route Map - A real-life map of Forza Horizon 3's Australia

Hello everyone

Here is a little art project I’ve been working on over the past year or so, a real-life road map and festival guide for this game’s Horizon Festival.

Throughout most of 2017 I spent many hours in this fictionalised world, creating custom car designs, competing in time trials and generally having a good time with a vibrant and creative virtual racing community. Over time I came to appreciate the hard work that Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games put into creating this world and how its roads contributed to good race route design.

While competing in Rivals I wondered what the in-game map would look like if all of its race routes were on display at once. Which roads were the most popular, which weren’t used at all by the Festival, and how do these routes string together to make an open world environment worth driving on? That gave me an idea, to create a map.

It was a fun project to put together, not only as I was learning more about map design but I also gained further appreciation for the game and its world along the way. Turn 10 and Playground did a great job with their interpretation of Australia and I’m looking forward to seeing where they take us next.

If you like, you can read more about the entire project and its development here.

That’s really cool PJ, and I love seeing people so passionate about Forza. I just purchased HORIZON 3 and all the DLC’s today, and I am looking forward so much to playing it.

What’d be really cool is if you created a wristband, akin to the original Horizon, for each booklet. Just an idea. This is amazing tho, looks very professional. The use of in-game content is superb. I kind of want one. Are you going into the mapping business?

Good work it must have taken you ages to complete, and done with love for Forza too.Nice.

Kudos to you my friend. This is fantastic!!!

Really nice work. Being that I work on printers and copiers and have a $70k color production printer here in the shop I think I’ll have to snag some nice quality paper and print me off a copy.

Man, I wish this was for sale

I would be right on it.

Is the coloring on the right of the race mean the difficulty?

Sorry, only saw this now.

The colours of each route line simply match what they are on the map, as I had to use different shaded of each colour in order to easily tell multiple routes apart. Take Surfers Paradise for example, where 6 different events use the same road across the entrance to the Festival Hub. If they were all the same colour that’d be very hard to make out.
