I bought this wheel for Forza 5 and I am struggling a little bit getting it feeling good. I was hoping some others might have this wheel and would be willing to share their settings? I have the switch set to 900 in the back and I adjusted it in the controller menu down to 360 but I still don’t like it. I didn’t mess with the force feedback or the vibration but I think those could use some adjusting as well. Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry but I think you are the first person on the forum to receive a Mad Catz wheel. Obviously I haven’t even seen a wheel in person, but it was my understanding that the Mad Catz wheel only works in either 270 or 900 degrees of rotation, so I’m not sure if you would get 360 degrees of rotation if you set that in the menu.
I think the general wheel user consensus is that 900 degrees is better for lower class cars, especially FWD cars. The 360 or 270 degree setting was better for faster cars like F1 or Indy cars. There usually is a learning curve switching from the controller to the wheel and it will take a few months to get faster with the wheel.
I’d be curious to hear your thoughts about the Mad Catz wheel too.
That’s unfortunate, lol. Hopefully I’m not the only one and there is someone more experienced than me out there who can chime in on these settings. Because at the moment I suck at racing with a wheel and I was hoping buying all this stuff would make me better, not worse.
I appreciate the feedback about the possible uses for both settings. I can tell you that adjusting it in the menu to 360 from 900 definitely does something but I am not sure if moving it took me to 270 and I just can’t tell the difference or if I’m at a legit 360. I’m wore out from setting everything up and playing most of the afternoon but I will try to flip the switch to 270 later and see what affect that has.
Thoughts on the wheel… I like it. I used to play GT4 on PS3 with a Logitech Driving Force GT setup and the Mad Catz setup is much more impressive than the DFGT. The thing I like most is the amount of customization built in. Since setting everything up I have adjusted the rake on the wheel up two notches and I adjusted the height and spacing of the pedals several times before finding a combination I liked. In the past you “got what you got” and if it wasn’t comfortable you just learned to deal with it. Really the only complaint I have is with the size of the wheel. I’m a bigger guy and have big hands and the wheel is far too small for my liking and comfort. Since the wheel comes off I am hoping sometime soon a wheel in a larger diameter is made available. One other note on the wheel, whatever that faux “suede” stuff is it’s wrapped in has turned my hands black. I’m hoping that subsides over time the more I break it in.
thanks for the feedback on the wheel. One of the things I noticed was how small the stock rim was - tiny compared to the stock TX rim which itself id quite small.
BTW I don’t think that setting the DOR to 360 will help you as your wheel doesn’t support it, so you’re best keeping it at 900 or 270.
With the TX I’ve had to turn FFB down to 60 and vibration down to 80 and that helped me a lot, as the FFB on the TX is ridiculously powerful. Without knowing the strength of the MadCatz it would be difficult for me to say whether that will help or not, so it’s a case of try it and see what feels best…
I did a post on a forum that I race on re my wheel settings, so rather than repeating, here is a link to it - I hope you find it useful: 韩漫,人妻互换共享4P闺蜜疯狂互换,97久久精品人人搡人妻人人玩,国产CHINESEHDXXXX老太婆
Re your hands turning black, unfortunately that is likely to always happen, so you might need to purchase some racing gloves.
Thanks Owen, I will give that a try and see what happens.
As I mentioned, adjusting the wheel via the in game menu to 360 from the default 900 did produce a favorable change. However as I also mentioned, I am not certain if just changing the value to anything other then 900 automatically defaults me to 270 or what. I will flip the switch to 270 later and see if that is different from the 360 I set it at in the menu.
As far as the force feedback and vibration goes…
I only have the DFGT wheel for PS3 and the Xbox One controller to compare it with but I can tell you that the default FF on the Mad Catz wheel is considerably less than the DFGT wheel. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as I always thought the DFGT feedback was a little aggressive. In regards to the vibration, I would say it’s actually a little weaker than the XB1 controller. Personally I would like to see a little less FF and a little more vibration but I am sure others would disagree with me. Regardless, IMO the MC wheel is more than capable of satisfying pretty much everyone I would suspect given the amount of customization available with the hardware and the settings within the game.
I look forward to tuning on this thing a bit more because right now I am about 2-5 seconds worse then I was with the controller. I’m not sure I will ever be happy until I get a bigger wheel though to be completely honest.
One other complaint is that I can’t plug my mic into the wheel. I’m not sure if I should blame MC about that or Turtle Beach for still not having a Bluetooth adapter for the XB1.
Go into the controller set up,advanced settings and set steering dead zones to 0-100,same with braking, also be sure you are using normal instead of sim steering.
Ok so, right off the bat setting the dead zones to 0-100 and turning off simulation steering have made a huge difference. I’m not sure what a dead zone is but I’m glad you told me about this. I’m still slow but I’ve got a lot better feel with these changes.
On another note I flipped the switch to 270 and after about 10 laps I can’t tell the difference between 270 and 360 so I think that the menu settings as they relate to rotation have no influence. Unless I just don’t have the “feel” at this point to be able to tell the difference between 270 and 360 which is possible. It’s odd though that menu would impact dead zones but not rotation even taking the switch into consideration. I might reach out to MC to ask them.
Thanks T REX!
Setting dead zones to 0 - 100 is what I included in my settings link. Normal / simulation steering is a preference thing. I’m faster with sim steering but with powerful RWD cars it can be very twitchy so if I’m in a long race (requiring longer concentration) I use normal.
Re FFB being weaker than a DFGT, that’s quite disappointing as these are nextgen wheels and are meant to be an advancement… You will likely find that if/when they bring out a bigger and heavier wheel FFB may be too weak (I have FFB higher on my GTE wheel than on the smaller, lighter stock rim), so whilst it might not be a bad thing now it might be in future.
Re the lack of mic socket - it’s like if MC and TM built these for PC rather than console! Really silly and very inconvenient to have to use the headset attached to a game pad and the pad plugged into the Xbox so it doesn’t switch off - how many cables??? Great technology leaders - I thought the world was going wireless!
My TX settings that I tried the other day.
900 degrees
72 FFB
100 vibration
wheel sensitivity 2 flashes(mode plus paddle shift up)
deadzones 0-100
steering switched back to normal (its very ‘tuggy’ with sim at a higher ffb, especially fwd and awd)
I like the higher ffb and combo of the wheel sensitivity setting at two coupled whith the dampened normal steering feels pretty good☺
