Help transition a beginner/novice tuner to expert

okay so i am getting so aggravated i spend 4-5 hours on a single tune, trying to squeeze every .0001 split time out of it. land somewhere in 1000-5000 on the leader board usually. so apparently i do not know what i am doing as much as i think i do. I’m currently 22 years old, and have had multiple vehicle’s that i have extensively modified in real life, and by extensively, i don’t mean slapped a sticker on it. i mean tear the motor down for a head/cam swap, to repainting the car myself. so i have a pretty good amount of knowledge of the reality of modifications, and tweaks for real cars. i find the game to be pretty true, with few exceptions to my knowledge. however, my logical thought process is not getting me where i desire, for whatever reason. and it seems that any info or tutorial currently online is either too vague for my liking, or just plain wrong. i found not found a video yet that actually improved my drag time. I’m probably misinformed. i don’t need some one to give me leaderboard tunes, i want info like, AWD set ups are for 1/4 or 1/2 mile and RWD for mile generally, and with AWD you want skinnier tires, while RWD you want all the way wide. i need things explained mainly the process of getting a good baseline and of fine-tuning it.

i would like an explanation of how each single tunable adjustment factors a change

what to tune first, and next, ect

MOST importantly, help me with gear ratio’s!!! i thought mine were basically optimal, but i get blistered pretty good online by about 5% of players.
how i tune gears, is start with final drive on the 1 miles test drive. i pull the final drive higher until 5th gear is my final mile gear, and it starts to loose power a fraction of a second before the finish. i then tweak 4th, to do the same at the 1/2 mark, and 3rd at the quarter. generally, my 3rd 4th and 5th gears are at the absolute max power the whole gear as per telometrics say. 3rd starts about 40HP under max, and climbs very fast,
i then, shorten first until it hooks about 20 FT LBs shy of max TQ…
second is just kind of the gear that makes all these other adjustment possible to work. its always long, but in my opinion, is the place where mis-adjustment has the least impact.

Maybe there is a tutorial i am missing already posted? link if so! or someone can PM me? but i really want to move on to the next level with my tuning, and i don’t think i can get any further without someone teaching me intricacies. thanks in advance!

Not sure, if you need help with tuning, or gearing…

I’d would probably assume both. I believe my main problem lies within first gear tuning, and launch. Any race I have ever been in, if I am first out of the hole shot, I’ve never been passed, if opponent is using a comparable class car. Except 33 stradale, but I refuse to use that car. Lol

How do you guys launch?!

I have some really fun A class cars that I love. my 396 nova has only 1 tune and I’m in the 1000’s on on LB for 1/4 1/2 and mile. But not a lot of people in lobby use A is more S, R, and P. but those 4 are my main concern.

I’m speaking of drag times, I’m not concerned with circuit races. I do have some drift cars with in house tunes, but I’ve got drift tuning down pretty well.

I never use any assists except sometimes I turn off clutch in P class drag in certain cars that I have beaten my best times with clutch by about .2 seconds. Doesn’t seem to work in any R or S class builds though.

For drag:
engine swap to most powerful option, with the cars I use its generally the 5.9 racing v8.
Upgrade fully
Full race suspension, with exception if car is AWD, stock chassis reinforcement.
Full race drivetrain
Drag tires
Wide as possible rears if RWD, was using all skinnies for AWD, but recently made some PB’s upgrading to some thicker rear meat.
Lightest rims possible
No aero, unless bumper deletes to save weight is an option.
I prefer AWD, so usually run it unless it bumps me up a class, then it’s left RWD.
Aspiration conversion is turbo if given the option. Some motors don’t.

Forza Motorsport 5 - Gearing and Tuning = Driving

What class? What cars? How are you building them?

Tuning may only make you a second quicker. If the build isnt great that’ll account for quite a few seconds. If you’re using cars that are generally uncompetitive that’ll even further hurt your lap times.

The only problem I see is that youre using a race transmission. That implies to me that you aren’t well versed in using the PI points efficiently. Most cars don’t need a race transmission unless the stock gearing like in Hondas doesn’t quite give you what you need.

There’s a thread below this one that has covered muscle car tuning pretty well though the threads title is in regards to lobby tuning. Check it out.

Skill and assists used (dependent on which class youre in and car you’re using) also play a big factor.

I have no idea then. Drag is a niche part of the community and idk how much help you’ll find on here. The only person I remember who made killer drag tunes that posted on here was fat burns but I don’t think he visits here anymore.

Drag seems to me more about car than anything. I remember I was like in the 500s in some auto upgraded ferrari in D and then got into fat burns tune for D and got a top 20 with just a decent launch. Tried a car with similar stats and couldn’t even keep up. Lol.

Yeah. I do really well in all lobby’s and am happy with my skills except for drag. I seen some threads of Fat burns while searching for info on here. He shared a lot of tunes for a while, but idk if they are still up bc I can’t find them, although I may not be in a Vehicle he chose to share?
