I try to use the cars / categories most used so that the race is more standard (Le Mans in Abarth 500 is not standard …)
I have already been successful on the Nürburgring, Mugello, Brands Hatch, Prague, Dubai and the Alps.
There I attack the circuit of SPA Francorchamps, but I can’t do It ! … The world top time is about 2:16 and I can not go below 2:26.
To reach the Top 1% World I have to get down below 2:24, but I can not, I tried all cars homologated in FORZA GT but nothing to do I miss more than 2 seconds!
I play exclusively in homologated cars, with Whell and manual gear with traction and stability aids activated (I tested disabled but it does not change anything).
That’s why I wondered if you knew videos that would give advice on this circuit, how to approach it, what car to take, what settings are important etc …
Thank you for your help and have a good game
My favorite circuit… Here’s a video from Scott Mansell who is very fast at Spa.
In Forza as IRL the difference to a good lap and a great lap is turns 1 (La Source) and 2 & 3 (Eau Rouge & Raidillon), 1 or 2 sec gained here means you can carry that advantage down the LONG Kemmel straight. i would focus on that as your starting point.
My Tips; Brake really (abs off) Late into La Source with a very late apex to prioritize exit speed (smooth with TCS Off), Try to enter Eau Rouge flat and over Kerb (as much as limits allow) to maintain momentum up hill through Raidillon with a slightly late and blind apex, Its very hard to stay within track limits but when to do get through fast & cleanly that’s going to be your best chance for top 1% lap.
If you can find somebody that has a sub 2:24 time in same car and a public tune as your ghost, you’ll see where they are faster and you may need to improve… i hope that helps.
To add to more specifics of a wheel. They are few and far between, but you may be able to find some decent wheel specific tunes rather than the gamepad-centric ones you might be using. Try searching for the creator “Dino Dad Shadow”, someone that often shares their wheel tunes that will get top 1% times. Gamepad tunes will usually have adjustments not suited for wheel users, anywhere from 150-200% brake pressures, among other things. This limits the amount of travel your brake pedal will allow, and thus hindering your ability to get maximum threshold braking. I hate to add more investment than a wheel already demands, but you should look into getting a brake mod kit for your pedals. They are relatively cheap and will help with muscle memory based on tension, and not distance. If you don’t have a load cell type brake already, I strongly advise you to atleast take a look. Any number of these will give you the confidence to turn off ABS, which is almost certainly faster having it off in most cases.
I’d like to see you carry more speed through corners, in general. You tend to brake hard, take the turn, and then get back on the gas. This is especially apparent in corners such as the kinks on Brands(increasing radius turns) Forza Motorsport 7 - Top 1% Mondial Brands Hatch Aston Martin DB9 - YouTube Whereas, try practicing applying less brake pressure, coast into the corner carrying more speed, and then begin to throttle at the apex. Which should naturally bring you towards the outside limit of the turn’s exit, squeezing every second out of turns. In all your videos, you will see all of the top10 LBs at the end have one thing in common, all asissts off except for manual no clutch(you definitely want manual w/clutch for slower classes). Don’t mean to keep harping on it, but If you practice good technique with the driving aids off, I believe you can be faster. Start off slowly and continually build speed with each lap is the best way I use to find the limits of each corner. Sure it can be tedious and take time, but with patience, good things will come.
I actually just recently made a video about SPA and the lines you should take. Forza GT right? I’ll see what I can do tonight. I’m generally pretty good at rivals events and always place in the top 1% there. I’ll upload a video explanation of SPA if I do well.
I have good news and bad new. First the bad news, I lost about 100-150ms per corner on the track. Good news is that it was a 20.4 and still only 1.4 seconds off the best BMW Z series time so it was pretty good still, not fast enough, but decent.
I’ll make a video on it tomorrow most likely and get her uploaded first thing in the morning so you can see what lines to take and how to take them. You have to attack this track pretty damn aggressively and get all of your acceleration zones right. Your oversteer and understeer and differential settings need to be on point and your car needs to be able to handle riding on the curbs.
No problem, it was fun to work on my faults and improve as I went. I started in the high 21’s then brought it down to the low 20’s in just over an hour. I’m 100% confident that if I did this perfectly at my skill level I could hit around 1:19.6-19.8. The #1 in the Z series was really fast, I don’t think I can match that time lol!
I followed the advice of FACR Delimon and I finally managed to improve my time on the circuit, I regularly go below 2:25 and my record is a little more than 2:23
It took me quite some time to capture the good race but I ended up succeeding.
I would like to thank again FACR Delimon and those who participated in this discussion for your help.
Looking good, nice improvement.
Few suggestions that I’ll break down from work on now to work on later.
Now:
Learn to race without assists: STM is significantly slowing you down, especially out of some of the lower speed corners. TC is sort of effecting you the same, but not as much. (Not talking about braking line, I use it because the game has poor peripheral and details, I need braking points from somewhere…)
Consistency: Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. This is generally a shooting instruction saying, but it applies to the track. Mistakes cost time, minimize mistakes and save time. As your consistency improves with hitting the same line, lap after lap, you’ll be able to find areas where you can brake a little later, or accelerate a little earlier.
Work on later:
Planning ahead. Spa is an easier track because it’s most complicated corners are only 2 to 3 turns. Eau Rouge namely. You should be setting up for corners depending on the exit and what lays beyond the complex. Quick right left heading into a straight (the norm for Spa) you are going to want to brake late and trail into the apex of the first corner, cutting it tight so you are set up on the far limits to normal or late apex the second turn to maximize speed down the next straight. That’s the one area where braking line hurts, it’s great for a braking point marker, but it’s not an ideal line.
Overall your driving is quite good, especially your throttle input. The only thing I would say you should work on first is your car positioning. You need to think about the next corner all the time and position your car beforehand to take the maximum speed possible.
Take Eau Rouge for example. In the video you showed, you need be far closer to the initial left curb because that positions your car much better for the exit. Try and use as much track as you possibly can aswell (within the limits of course).
The only other major thing I saw was your corner exits. You really want to go for the path of least resistance. Turn 1 I your video is a great example. After you hit the apex and apply the power, you want to let the car naturally drift towards the outside curb on the exit. It just help you put the power down better and stops you from scrubbing off speed on the exit.
But like i said I do not want to make the best time, it would take me too much time.
I just want to get into the world top 1% on the main circuit of FM7
It was difficult on this track because many people have made good chrono on this track, I used your advices and i succedeed.
thanks again, now I’ll try another track…
Have you a Idea of a track and car ? With many chronos (more than 40 000)
Long Beach is a really fun track to drive, if you can master that, then you have a really good handle on car control in general.
I’m by no means the fastest guy out there, but here’s 2 vids for you. One at Spa and one at Long Beach. They’re not hot laps and they’re not the best laps in the world because they were designed to showcase a tune but I think it highlights my point I made about car placement.
Your driving has come a really long way, you’ll be surprised, by the next game you’ll be extremely quick if you just keep practising
