Heavy Metal Affliction 1978 Chevrolet Chevy SS

What an awesome car, really loved that old school Chevy SS. Such a shame it got stolen, that must have been an increadibly terrible feeling. I feel really sad for the guy, I hope the thieves recieve a penalty and he gets his car back.

Thank you. We are fighting to find the thieves and to make justice. We have numerous clues, including videos of her being driven away by the thieves.

I would LOVE to tell about Utopia´s return…

Ariel Fuentes – GT Kaji AF16 – Is there a Chip Foose with an Overhaulin’ show in Argentina?

Seriously, great story and video and I’m sure everyone wishes your car is returned to in one piece.

Bad River: I am not a big follower of Chip Foose, but I know that he has been here lately. I don´t know if he has a dedicated show in Argentina… but I believe he is sponsor of local productions, being recognized as a car-customizing guru.
I will ask about it and then answer to you properly.

Thank you! We hope Utopia still exists as we knew her.

First off, let me say I’m sorry to hear about the theft of your car. It’s a real shame to maintain such a classic as that and to have it taken from you.

Now on to the car. I have always loved the styling of the Nova as it looks like a shorter, stockier version of my favorite muscle car, the Chevelle SS. I thought the best part of this story was being able to meet some former GM execs and saying how “exceptional” the car is. It’s unfortunate that GM never thought of bringing the 396 to the Argentine market, but I’m sure the inline 6 was a lot of fun to drive. Best of luck in recovering the car.

I love the Chevelle too… I always thought of it as the “big brother” of the Nova. I had a poster of a ´70 454 Chevelle SS in my bedroom when I was a child. Until Forza Motorsport 4 included the Nova, I always drove Chevelles in videogames -they were the closest I could get to my real drive-.

The GM designers I got to talk to are idolized by Chevy fans from around my country. You can search for them and, if you read Spanish -or with the help of a translator-, know a very nice story: they are called Pedro García and Jorge Ferreyra Basso. They adapted the US Nova into the local Chevy, without knowing they were somehow creating an icon.
One of them (García) can even make artistic paintings of your car if you request him to.

The inline 6 of our SS is indeed more powerful than the ones in US Novas, because of the sporty carburators and the relatively high compression. 170 HP stock were enough for me, but achieving 220-260 HP is relatively affordable and common among fans. Its exhaust note is very recognizable. Here you have another two videos of my car as an example, not in the best condition:

Really amazing. My parents had one of those. It was called Nova here though, it took me a sec to figure out Chevrolet Chevy… I thought it meant Chevelle at first.
It depressed me a little bit. Its really awful to hear it got stolen. I hope you get it back someday.
I look forward to reading another Heavy Metal Affliction sometime.

Thank you very much!
Chevys are not known outside South America, but here they are a local legend! They are referenced in multiple rock songs.
If you have any pictures of that Nova, I would love to see them!

I hope for Ariel that he beloved car is returned to him. The history behind his love for the SS is inspiring. The car is a beautiful example of a great Chevy. Thanks for sharing this story and again I truly hope for Ariel that there can be justice for him and his SS.

Thank you very much, HappierMonk. I am sincerely grateful to John for sharing this bittersweet story. It serves as a -hopefully not!- last homage to my dream car, which I worked so hard to achieve and which was taken away from me in a moment.

If there is justice, I will tell you!

Thank you, Forza community! I am honored.

So sad to hear about this, loosing your car is like loosing part of who you are.

I always love the way Novas look and that is one great looking one! It’s a shame of what happened to it, yet the worst part is that this stuff happens often, I remember several years back a '80s Chevy pickup was stolen during the “Run in the Sun” car show in Myrtle Beach; Hope the thieves get what’s coming to them.

Good lord that car was beautiful, I’ve always liked the Chevy Nova’s (Or as I like to call them, 'The little Chevelles that could") and I think this was one of the best examples I’ve ever seen. In some way this story almost reminds me of “Love the Beast”, feels very similar in some ways. I’m sorry to hear it got stolen, hopefully you can get this gorgeous car back to you in one piece.

I saw “Love the Beast” some months after getting my own ride, and I felt represented by Eric Bana´s story of such a strong bond with a mechanical entity.

Yesterday, a member of one of our forums recovered his stolen Chevrolet 400 (remember: Argentinean first-gen Nova) after roughly 3 months. I have hope.

Ariel, siento mucho por tu perdida. La verdad estoy sin palabras… Que bonito carro y tambien muy bonitos paisajes. Algún día espero poder conocer a tu tierra. Saludos desde Finlandia!

An interesting topic. From Forza Motorsport I’ve gotten known some very special cars that have attracted great interest from me. For example the Ford XB Falcon and the Chevrolet Corvair. What a coincidence that I have only bought the Pirelli Car Pack, and there’s our “Chevy”! Now I’ll be getting it and reading it’s history online.

Got here from a unicorn thread. So if I’m deemed worthy;

Gracias por tu mensaje, Kanpela. ¿Cómo escribes tan bien en Español? Yo también quisiera conocer tu país.
Me alegra lograr cierto intercambio cultural a través de HMA y los foros de Forza Motorsport.

Saludos,

Ariel

Thank you for you message. I would love to see your Nova!

During the last decade, some Chevy fans have been able to import and install V8s in their old Chevrolets. As of now, a brand new, basic 350 crate engine can be bought for -approximately- u$s 6.500, a significant investment since it is roughly half of Argentina´s median personal income. Even a few 454s have been spotted lately.

It’s a very sad story, I hate thieves… You spend time and money to own something and It’s very painful to lose it.
I actually think that Chevrolets is one of the best car producer… And I really love that Chevy…

Yes sorry to hear of your loss. I to have a spot in my heart for Novas my Grandfather was the final inspector at the Cincinnati GM Nova Plant retired early 70s he had a mid 60s one of a kind SS built for him. When he passed he told my grandmother to buy a new car, she did I think like a 79 nova 4 cylinder. She traded away the SS to a man who painted her home so she could put the home up for sale to downsize. Cant blame Her but what a lucky man to have a car like that.
