Guys, try the 570S on Monza, Curva Grande

Hey guys,
can you do me a favor and try making a Free Play Race with the 570S on Monza and then try to take the Curva Grande full speed?
For some reason, when i steer in, i cant get that corner with the Gamepad. The car does not steer in enough and i get carried out of the corner although there is no pushing over the front tyres.
It seems there is some sort of steeringsensitivity in relation to speed or so, because in AC or PCars 2 i have no problems taking that corner full speed with an aequivalent car.
In general i have the feeling that i can go faster through corners if only the steering would let me.
Any way to fix this? I looked in the controls menu but cant find anything that appears to be that.

Sounds like you are trying to take the corner too quickly hence you under steering through it. I know you may be able to take it flat in other games but they all have slightly different physics models so you are bound to see differences such as this.

Thats exactly the thing, i do not feel any oversteering, there is no tyrescream, its just total grip, but the car does not steer in enough although it could. Its to me the gamepad programming that limits me, not the actual car physics. And thats what bothers. I know very well how oversteering would feel and look like. That here is different.

Might look at your Deadzone setting under Advanced under controller settings. I don’t know if this will change how the car turns but might give you a little more play in your steering with a controller.

Understeer is the cornerstone upon which the Forza physics engine is built. Just try the Ferrari F40 stock. You cannot turn the nose at all under power. I’ve watched people review the F40 in real life and they all comment on how direct and sharp the steering response is. Forza does not handle like a real life car, you can fine tune it if you fit race parts and tune the suspension but on the whole most cars either understeer or oversteer more than their real life counterparts would. PCars 2 and AC have totally different physics models so not surprising the handling differs between games.

In Horizon I was surprised to learn that. I was not used to this behavior.

Turn 10’s choice has a clear reason, though… Understeer is simply that much more manageable with a controller, however annoying it can be if your driving style isn’t suited to it.

Furthermore, as Rudiger pointed out, “Normal” steering, whilst treated as an “assist” in Forza Motorsport, is not actually that, it seems to be more or less some implementation of speed sensitivity, which is part of controller setup in other games and thus adjustable (in Project CARS for example I ran minimum 60% and usually 80% was a “proper” value). Again, this setting is necessary for a controller to stand a chance in competitive play even though there are people who can drive on “simulation” mode just fine, but “normal” is, at least in theory, the way the game is meant to be played for those using a controller.

Without trying it, I assume the default setup is too tight. There are a lot of high performance cars with default setups that understeer. So until you have access to one you can tune, the best you can do is adjust your line and speed to make it navigable.

Edit: FM games have fairly strong speed sensitive steering, and it cannot be adjusted like you can in the pcars series.

If your steering is set to normal in options, try to set it to simulation. Did wonders for me against understeering

Thanks for the answers guys. Deadzone is on 0 in Controller Settings.
Steering is set on simulation. I guess then its just the way the game handles controller steering.
Cheers.

I dont get how y’all can say that “normal” vs “simulation” steering helps with the turn in. To me the only difference between those two is that on simulation the stick is more sensitive to movement, but has nothing to do with the maximum steer-in-amount.
And again, we dont get understeering with the gamepad. Its just the car not turning in. The only device where you actually feel understeering is when playing with a wheel.

Try setting upper deadzone to 86. It helped alot for me even with a new controller.

I know the feeling all to well, its as if the game is taking your max left or right steering input and saying “You really don’t mean that, I’ll apply 3 degrees of wheel turn”. Its more prevalent in F-AWD cars, but yeah…it sucks. Probably will never change, that is baked deep in the game engine and has been since FM2 from what I can tell.
