Get rid of practice?

I think i may be in the minority here but i wish they would get rid of practice before multiplayer races, or have races that don’t require practice.
I would much rather have a random starting position. If you’re a good racer and start from the back you will work your way forward anyway and vice versa if you’re not so good and start at the front.
If i want to learn a car or track, or tune a car for a specific track i will do it in free play, then i will race the car and see how it goes and change if necessary or do some rivals with it. How many times do you have to use a track before you know it lol?
For every 4 races i’m wasting a hour doing practice ( and that’s if i can get into the race with the problems ), not everyone has hours to play the game. All i want to do at night is get on and race.
I’m not a new player, i’ve been racing since FM3.

I can see your point but i disagree on that.
The practice time is for pactice and qualifying combined.
I usually hop in, go for 2-3 laps in practice to warm up and switch to qualify for 3 laps.

In the singleplayer though i highly recommend T10 to turn off practice completely.
What is the point, other than cxp which you don’t care about after getting a car to 50, when you can’t start from the top row even with the best qualifying time ?

I do not get it at all, frustrating to drive a top time but i need to start at place 3-xx .
Why do i cannot choose the second or first place in the pack to start at after having the best time ?

Why T10 ? Why ?

Did think i would be in the minority lol, i just find practice in multiplayer boring and tedious having to do it before every single race every single night.
Thing is, it doesn’t really matter where you qualify, the chances are you are going to get hit first corner anyway :grinning:. It also feels good when starting mid pack or at the back and working your way through the field, that’s why i don’t mind random starting positions.

At least in single player you can choose to skip it .

Thought I would add my two cents on this. I think practice and it’s Implementation is perfect, maybe even not enough. How I see it, there are a few things we need to consider.

Firstly, if we are trying to simulate a motorsport, you must have practice sessions, qualification sessions and the race session, not doing so makes it more a racing game than a motorsport simulation (like horizon).

Secondly, if you force players to practice, get clean laps in, you can reduce turn one carnage, just by having player actually know where to brake for the first turn with a packed grid, rather than rolling the dice by jumping straight into the race. This is where my “not enough” point comes in, as they would do in real world motorsport, there should be a requirement to enter a race, minimum laps clean laps completed to access qualification sessions (where if you don’t set a time, you are at the back of the grid based on when you got in the lobby). This should further assist in getting the racing cleaner, yes it ruins the pick up and race ability, but then I woukd make a section for that (like a race weekend tab,l vs a race-day tab for those who want the risk).

Thirdly, as the “car-pg” is at the core of the game, as you said you use this elsewhere, so using that same logic, why not do the pick up and race elsewhere :joy::joy::joy:( I have chosen violence) just kidding. The whole getting to know your car revolves around practice sessions, open track days etc. I real live, so the same must be here to accommodate those who want to kill two or more birds with ones stone. Learn a track, a car and compete, practice in a multiplayer lobby give one all of this in the current Implementation. I see free play as an end game feature for the game, when you finished the builders cup you can use cars and track combos you have not experienced in the career, rivals and multiplayer or if you want to do a quick offline race. So from a car level perspective, as I said with the second point, just make a separate tabe for that sort of thing for quick race. Then you have your needs met, while not throwing out mine .

That’s about it, hope it makes sense. TLDR, Make an online quick race component with the same content instead of removing existing features.

Yeah i see what you’re saying Asthma, i do agree for the most part re learning the track and braking points etc but really, how many times do you have to do laps on a track before you know it?.
I get trying to simulate motorsport but if you only have a few hours each evening to race, as i said, every 4 races is a hour having to practice.

Maybe as you say, a quick race option may be the answer, here’s hoping :crossed_fingers:

:100: hard to please everyone

As far as I know, you can skip practice in singleplayer.
For person that plays singleplayer 90% of the time, as myself, I like to have that session. To me it is form of Q, then I compare my time and choose corresponding position on that grid choice screen.

One way to appease most everyone in regards to this issue would be to give an option of Practice as well as Go To Race on that first screen. Those who don’t want to practice should not have to jump through hoops to skip the practice.

The qualifying is the best thing that has happened for online Forza, I usually qualify top 5 and don’t need to worry about passing 19 other drivers of questionable skill level in a 5 lap. I don’t mind the practice either, I usually only have 10 minutes of qualifying/practice combined. I have had some very fun racing moments during practice with people, swapping positions 3 or 4 times per lap for 2 or 3 laps in a row. I am a clean racer but during practice I feel like I can take more risks and a little contact isn’t as bad as during a race since one off isn’t going to ruin the practice for someone.

In single player personally I like the practice session, but I agree it is a little weird they force everyone to do it. I see no reason not to make it optional.

There’s nothing more horrible then entering MP and seeing practice ends in 22 minutes.

On average qualifying takes 5 mins total for 3 laps on most tracks. Therefore practice can be reduce to a maximum of 10 mins, which should allow for 6 laps if you enter at the start and 3 laps if you enter late.

wouldn’t entering multiplayer and seeing 12 seconds left of practice be worse than 22 minutes when you were looking to practice :yum::joy::joy:

just make practice optional. its there for people who want it and the ones that don’t want it, they can skip it. problem solved.

Disagree with removing practice. Lap times improve after a few laps with the specific car, tune, weather etc for the event. Not sure why you would want to go in cold rather than get a few laps first to get you up the speed. It’s also not much of a hardship having to erm play the game to play the game.

I’m not going in cold tho and unless its your very first time on Forza you already know the track and the car. If i’m needing to tune a car for a track or a series i use free play.
Maybe not a hardship to have to practice but i like to race in the evenings and i don’t have a lot of time to do so, even less now i have to practice.

And to annoy me even more im now having to 15 minute practice sessions and the game crashes before i can even race!, a hour wasted again tonight…

Doing better than me.I can get a perfect run during qualifying, pass everyone and still wind up in 12 place no matter what I do.Qualifying is definately busted seems like.

You can skip practice in single player.

i wish they would reduce practice to at most 15minutes. theres times i see all races start in like 25min so i just hop off as im not waiting around for it

When I don’t feel like running a practice session…

I skip it.

I only wish I could skip practice without loading into the practice session.

Having the ‘Go to race’ button not locked at the start would be a good improvement.
The people that want to skip practice can do. The people that do want to practice (get to know the car and track, earn some extra carxp and credits) can still do that.
Everyone happy!
