Game save is gone. UPDATE: New bugs

I never thought a day like this would come, but here it is. I’m going to lay this out real quick so you guys can understand where I am coming from.

I have been an avid Forza fan since the release of FH2 for the 360. These days, I’m 24 years old and don’t really play any games other than Forza. I purchased an Xbox One at $500+ just to play FM5 and FH2. I already was screwed over by Microsoft when I purchased the LCE of Horizon 2 online, and like many of you, was unable to play it for 12+ hours upon release.

Now, well now to say I’m pissed off would be a massive understatement. I got on my One yesterday to play Horizon 2 and was greeted with the opening sequence for the game. Confused, I hard reset the Xbox, reset my router, and signed in and out of my gamertag. Still gone. Everything, gone. 80+ hours of playtime, 50+ cars, custom paint jobs, tunes, everything, all gone. No explanation from any source I can find. I tried deleting my local save data and re syncing with the cloud in an attempt to pull my save back, but that did nothing too.

What can I even do now? What is the point? Am I supposed to start all over again, put my hard-earned free time towards rebuilding my garage and redoing the 200+ races I completed only to get on in 2 months from now and have everything disappear again? This is unbelievable.

As I stated earlier, I only own an Xbox One for Forza, I’v spent literally over a thousand dollars in the past few years buying LCE of Forza games, all the DLC, new systems, everything, only to continuously get shafted by poor user support and abysmal customer service. I didn’t even know my data was saved on “the cloud” in the first place? What is the point of the 250gb hard drive on my system if it’s going to save everything to a magical internet land that looses my data and gives me no measurable amount of convenience whatsoever?

I’m done. I’m going to give it a few days to see if something gets worked out, but if not, I’m selling my Xbox One with my digital copy of FH2 LCE and my hard copy of FM5 LCE. No way am I going to start all over from scratch (not to mention I’m sure the 1,500,000 CR I received as a VIP member were technically already gifted to me, so I won’t even be able to use that to re-start my garage…) and rebuild what WAS my favorite game of all time, only for it to all come crashing down in another few weeks/months when the cloud decides to loose all my data. I seriously don’t want to do this- I really wish this can get fixed, but truthfully I’m doubtful of that. Forza, especially Horizon 2, is one of my only hobbies I’m still able to keep with non-stop work and family issues, and it is usually a massive help in relieving the stress of daily life, but lately is causes me nothing but problems, and I’m sick of putting up with it.

If anyone is experiencing this problem, please post here. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE:

After trying everything I could to restore my seemingly lost data, I decided to give it another shot and start the game from scratch. It seems there is no way to load saves from the hard drive or backup your files externally so I suppose I’m just going to have to hope for the best saving on the Cloud (that being said, if this happens again I’m done).

Anyways, I downloaded the new update for the game and begun playing yesterday, and have noticed the following problems:

  • No station logo or track listing visible when going through the radio stations

  • No number shown when passing through both types of speed camera, just a flash

  • No time limit shown on road trip events

  • After leveling up, if I don’t immediately use my wheel spin I cannot access it through the dash (it says I have none). If I wait a bit I’ll have another pop-up asking me to spin the wheel, but only sometimes. Sometimes my spin is just gone, forever.

Is anyone else experiencing these problems? Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse after the game save disappearance now I’m dealing with actual bugs? Great.

I feel for you friend and I’m sure every forza fan feels the same way, I wish this problem was fixed it is a worry every time we load the game,
… is it going to work or have i lost my save? , I’m worrying more and more about this problem it seems to be getting more common.

I think we just have to accept that we are all playing Russian Roulette with Forza games on Xbox One! Luckily other games are fine!

This is a common problem? Wow, good thing I skipped FH2 this time around and just focusing on the older forza games.

Don’t think it is a microsoft problem. Seems to be an issue with Forza games and t10.

Sorry to hear about you losing your save, if I could give you cars/money I would help. One question though, is how you exit forza such as turning off your console after you played the game?

I’m with the others in being very nervous about this issue. I’m also really sorry this happened to you. I hope somehow they can pull your file from a backup in the cloud.

We are all used to backing up our PCs in various ways, including making local backups. The XBox One has a USB port. I don’t see why Microsoft can’t make it so that we can manually copy our save files to a USB stick (or email them to ourselves). That way we can back up every few days, and restore the save manually if something goes wrong. That way you lose at most a day or so of playing.

I’m sure there’s a counterargument here: opening up save games to the end user means that fake saves can be uploaded, unlocking every car and achievement immediately, etc. But isn’t that risk worth it if we’re talking about 80 hours of game play being lost? As long as it doesn’t risk undermining online play, what’s the problem with giving that power to the end user?

If you could remove the save files from the cloud and onto a USB stick, the modders would have a field day.

If you didnt close the game properly that could be the cause. There’s a thread here which says the proper way to quit the game, but i guess if its not stickied it becomes too late. Hopefully a fix will be available in future

That’s the issue I don’t understand the most. Why can I not just have the option to save to my internal hard drive on my Xbox One? Or even better an external source like a USB stick.

What should I actually do here? My plan tonight was to kick back, relax, and drive one of the Ferrari’s around the Italian hillside, haha. I’m considering just restarting the game for the moment but I’m worried that might compromise the possibility of being able to get my old game save back. Should I keep try to get on the phone with Microsoft and explain the situation in the hopes that may help? Because I honestly think that’ll probably just kill an hour of my time and result in nothing getting done.

Also, correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there no system of gifting cars in FH2? I’m not even able to have friends gift me over some higher-end cars to get things going, huh?

Thanks.

Just remember, when you exit the game, back out as far as you can>Dashboard>Press ‘start’ on the game> Then quit game and then turn your console off to ensure it saves and exits correctly.

That would not save the game, The game has an automatic save so doing it your way would make no difference. Also the Xbox One is designed to turn the console off and when you turn it back on you start where you left off. It’s a Forza problem not a console problem.

No gifting of cars, this was stopped in F5

This is a very serious issue. The problem did show up many month ago on Forza5, after some time T10 said they are monitoring the problem. A lot of time has passed since then and many more save games are gone for good. No fix was released. Now the same problem did obviously carry over to Horizon2 and many more save games got lost. Still no fix. This is extremely disappointing.

I feel for you mate I really do, why we can’t save to usb is beyond me.

I don’t understand this cloud save I don’t even know where our saves go and why save on the hard drive and cloud but not use your harddrive save? If hard drive saves are our back up why can’t we access them when the cloud save goes westwards on us?

Cloud has been a problem since forza 4 days my son lost nearly two years worth of game play I had him in tears he was 8 at the time

Neither T10 or mircosoft did anything or offer any help.

T10 don’t even offer a support network just an Email address that you never get response from.

Ain’t that the truth as many 360 owners have found. You would think that because these are their flagship products that they’d be all over it.

THIS!!! SO MUCH THIS!!!

Most important thing to do is to be mindful of when the game is auto saving. As for the cloud saves and the lack of usb support, it’s all to prevent modding and hacking.
