I feel as if this should be mentioned, the fact that Fuel Consumption relies off of the Damage setting to be set to “Simulation”. While this does make sense by technicality, I do feel as if Fuel Consumption should be its own separate option, since it is very difficult to run the fuel out of the vehicle that is being driven, before the tyres becomes so damaged/worn that driving becomes very very difficult and non-enjoyable.
I enjoy roaming around the map, and conducted a test run with the damage setting set to “Simulation”, then proceeded to drive about 65 miles around the map, taking extra care to not have collisions, or corner too quickly and cause the tyres to loose traction. The maximum speed was 80mph, maximum engine RPMS were around 5675, average throttle input percentage was about 38% with NO wheel slip during takeoff.
During the test, I found that the fuel was decreasing somewhat steadily (not sure if the fuel consumption lowers as I keep the engine RPMs lower or not, or if it’s based only on throttle input percentage). I also found that the tyres that are attached to wheels on the drive axle wear out abhorrently quickly, even when mostly driving in a straight line, whilst avoiding hard-braking, aggressive cornering, and wheel slip situations. The test had to be stopped prematurely, as the traction was reduced so much so due to the excessive tyre wear, that I was not bale to accurately formulate an accurate fuel range of the vehicle being driven (this was the original goal of the test).
This is why I feel that the Fuel Consumption should be made toggleable with a separate setting, so that if the player wishes to deplete the fuel without having to endure damage to the vehicle they can. I also feel that Fuel Usage is incorrectly categorized as “Damage”, when it should be called “Consumption” instead. Consuming fuel isn’t an act of damage, it’s merely exhausting/consuming a resource within the vehicle.
