frugal greasemonkey debating on GOLD

Hey all.

new guy here. I’ve been playing Forza now since 2010. I’ve played 2, 3, 4, and Horizon. I have the 360 and I’m not really wanting to get a XboxONE until I see how things develop, so no Forza 5 for me right now :wah:

basically, I’m a greasemonkey, a petrol-head, a wing-nut, a “devotee of power, performance, and noise.”

I’ve never wanted to get XboxLIVE GOLD really before. Yeah, I’ve enjoyed it when I have a freebie trial with a new game, but I’ve never wanted to spend my cold hard cash on it. I’m quite frankly a bit frugal (it’s okay to just call me a “cheap __”).

However, Forza Horizon has changed my perspective. I’ve been having a blast just enjoying the cars in the “Top 1000” thingymabob DLC, and I even bought my first cash DLC, EVER, in the Bondurant Pack. And I don’t regret it one iota. My favorite Lambo now is that Gallardo, and of course one of two of my favorite cars came in that pack as well. Too bad she’s a 427SC instead of a 289FIA, but that’s minor issues. I’ve been having a blast choosing my car, and then trying to get into the “Top 1%” on the rivalry board in the courses I enjoy.

Then there’s Forza Motorsport 4 as well. Is it worth it to get XboxLiveGOLD to enjoy these two games online, along with whatever else I choose to play? I enjoy a variety of games, but I’ve had the Xbox now for over 4 years, give or take, and I’ve never had the drive to get GOLD until now. I blame Forza Horizon.

I’m posting this here, because it seems Forza Motorsport 4’s board appears to be quite more active than Horizon’s board. I just want to see if there’s any merit to doing this.

also, if I were to join a club - I enjoy “no assists” settings: manual w/clutch, no driving lines, no traction control, no abs, and in-cockpit view. I’d be looking for clean drivers, regardless of age. I’m not very mature myself, but I hate the AI drivers sometimes… let alone online play with a bunch of bash and crash junkies lol

well with gold you will be able to get two free games on the 360 that Microsoft chooses every month, 1 is free from the 1sth till the 15th then next is free from the 16th to the last day of the month.
also worth noting that these games you download for free are yours to keep even if you decide to not renew xbox live gold

Also if you get gold, then you could join a car club and run in meets, Hot Lap challenges, and do so tuning on what the club needs to get better at. I when to the Xbox One and FM5. I gave it seven months, and its not getting any better. I came back to FM4, joined with a new club and I’m having a blast. So if you like to race with other like minded people, shot me a friend request, and I’ll introduce you to the club I’m with. It’ll be a nice addition if you decide to go with xbox Live Gold.

The Games with Gold is a nice by product of the Gold membership. I think I’ve gotten everyone of the free games offorded so far. I may not play them but my kids will.

Yes. I’ve been playing Forza 4 since release and it’s still just as fun and I couldn’t say that unless I had gold

No doubt it’s worth it! I am about as cheap as it gets with money and I don’t regret it one bit signing up for a year of gold. Just the ability to buy great cars from the auction house in F4, and buy paints and tunes, etc. for both games makes it worth more than you think. Start browsing the storefronts and paints and you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Even on games that you don’t plan on playing multi-player, the ability to get added content is more than worth it.

thanks guys for the responses! It’s definitely something I’ve been debating for quite a while. My girl (I know, it’s sad lol) is a gamer too. She told me just the other day - “Seriously? For me, being able to play HALO4 Spartan Ops is worth Gold to me!” to which I responded - “if you’re home then we’re playing HALO.” HALO is the only FPS I play, the others, let’s just say I’ve had enough of that kind of thing in real life and leave it at that. If HALO is worth it enough for her, on its own, than it should be a good excuse for me to say “well, I get to play HALO with you… and I get Forza when you aren’t home!”

so stand by, I’ll be getting GOLD here pretty soon

I was actually thinking the same thing about Forza4. With XboxONE out and FM5 on it, the guys playing FM4 are the ones that either A) don’t have FM5 and X1, and/or B) like playing with their old group on FM4. That and come on!! FM4 has TopGear and Jeremy Clarkson! Graphics don’t trump little extras on gameplay like that, especially for a racing sim, where it’s realistic driving and “newer cars” each time, kind of like a new Madden or NHL every year. To me, it’s hard to top FM4.

thanks for the invite bud. I’ll hit you up as soon as I get GOLD. Like I said in the previous post (I think), I drive in cockpit only, with no or very little assists (sometimes ABS) with simulation steering and damage. I have been since I first found FM2 back in 2010.

^^that’s definitely something to actually think about. I keep seeing the marketing gimmick, and was curious what they offer.

as a whole, thanks guys. You really helped seal the deal. I was just concerned there wasn’t much out there anymore. But if there’s still clubs shredding virtual tires while taking aggressive lines, all while trying to not crunch the other guy = I’m IN.

I glad I said the right things to have you concider getting Gold. I will look for that FR. I will let you know the club I run with now, do weekly races. We have some series events coming in about a month or two. We have a stock only Country Squire race coming up. We also have a DTM series that should start in Sept some time. Also have monthly HLC, and other fun events. We also have just a drifter that is willing to teach you if you’ve never done. There is also a straight liner to help with those needs as well.

Also on the Games with Gold. It’s Twice a month, the 1st and 16th, there offer a game for free download.

Like Gears said if you are not a pianter, I am not, you can find liveries that suit your style, or even contact the artist and maybe he will edit it for you.

You should try some of the different Forza 4 Leagues in the racing lounge and just race in their series races before you decide to join a team. You do not need to be on a team to race in most leagues.
A lot of people have moved back to Forza 4 and racing again

Another bonus of Gold is the ability to receive fantastic designs from the many great painters/designers here in Forza 4. Various individuals and clubs routinely offer up one of a kind or Ltd Edition paints. Not to mention billions of credits. Some of the tuners are absolute wizards at getting the most out of each and every car available

You will find that virtually everyone who hangs out here in the forums is friendly and helpful.

IF you come onboard, and you can shake the controller loose from the better half, I have no doubt it will greatly enhance your Forza experience
