Freeplay - how do you use it to race the way you want to?

I received a request via PM to share how I setup my 1 vs 1 races, so I figured it might be nice for the community to share the settings they use to make Freeplay work for them.

I know I am not alone in enjoying driving cars in stock form. I enjoy doing up and tuning cars as well, but here is something I like doing to drive stock cars:

  1. Set Division to “Open
  2. Set Drivatar to 1 and Unbeatable (I guess you can do this to taste - many Drivatars and whatever difficulty you want)
  3. Set Allow Upgrades to “No
  4. Set PI Limit <= a number as you see fit. Sometimes I make it equal to my car. Sometimes I give the drivatars a bit more PI to play with than my car. If you do not set a PI limit, the game will give the Drivatar a car that is about 50 PI points higher than yours. This once pitted an R class 12C GT3 against my S class NSX FE (I still won haha).
  5. Sometimes I might want to put a year restriction for flavour.

This can be fun, but it can also highlight the problems with the Drivatars as well, which has it’s own thread(s), so I won’t even start here.

Please note that if you move to the next track and/or want to switch cars - you would need to repeat the process again as the settings will not save. It’s tedious but at least in the end I get to drive the way I want.

This method works to drive rental cars in stock form as well and is a great way to test drive all the cars in the game on whatever track you please.

Hope this info is useful, I invite anyone else who has been playing around with Freeplay settings to get some good racing going to share what they are doing in this thread.

Cheers.

Well I thought I would add a little info to this that may be helpful. If you want to race 1V1 against a specific car, it is easily done in free play. (If you can get free play to work that is) go to free play advanced settings. Set driver buckets to 2. Bucket 1…any make & any model, minimum 1 player, maximum 1 player. Bucket 2…minimum 1 player, maximum 1 player. Choose make of car & model of car for bucket 2. If you want drivatar to run stock vehicle, make sure bucket 2 is set to no upgrades allowed. Accept settings & go to race. This should work…that being said, free play quit working for me after the first day. Once turn 10 gets free play working properly I’ll double check it to see if I missed anything.

Thanks for sharing that, I hadn’t played around with the buckets yet. So far I haven’t been too fussy about my opponents but I used to love this in FM4.

Bummer about the Freeplay difficulties you’re having, it’s been fine for me on XB1 and PC.

Thanks guys, can’t wait to go try this out tomorrow

Free play is all I have been doing lately. I upgrade and tune my vehicles. I set my tracks to 12 laps / 2 pit stops / 23 AI / upgrades on and pick a class. I set up my assists and drivatar difficulty in such a way that I have to really work for a win. “Two pits” seems to keep AI in play over the course of the race. The Credits earned are usually around 100.000 + CR bonuses and cars. Running Free Play like this has me on my way to Tier 7 Car Collection…Cheers

Yup, after completing the Forza Driver’s Cup the first time around and completing one Elite version, Freeplay is my main thing and imagine it will be for the rest of FM7’s lifespan unless we get a return of class based leaderboards.
