I’ve recovered the points I lost, and reached a new high. Haven’t encountered any very bad sportsmanship in those games, a few times I passed people when they had easy opportunities to punt me off, and they accepted it gracefully - there are still good people in this world! Another race I was overtaken by someone who tapped me a bit, I didn’t think it was unsportsmanly but he said sorry and slowed down and let me pass! Just imagine how pleasant this game could be if everyone was like this gentleman.
I find I’m getting more nervous, the higher I climb, because the better you do, the better the ranking system expects you to do. And rarely are there players higher rank than me in the room, so I am expected to always win, which really puts the pressure on. It is one of the reasons I am still playing this, rather than unranked. Unranked is too often a cakewalk and unsatisfying to win. Sometimes you get a strong lobby but usually it’s very average or weak and winning feels empty, like I’ve just beaten up on some novice bots.
I know what you mean! During my climb from league 6 to league 2 I hardly ever lost points, so I was always super tense and sometimes didn’t even want to play to preserve my rank.
After losing ~90 points to a disconnect and game crash I think I’ve fully internalized that the biggest barrier to climb is crashes/disconnects and the poor matchmaking/not enough players. It’s really gotten me to care less about my rank and I’m more relaxed now when I play.
I’m the same, I am wary of playing when I’m tired or if I’m not confident I can focus sufficiently, out of fear of losing points… my rank, my precious rank! I think when you can lose hours or days of hard-earned progress with just one mishap, it is understandable to be a bit tense! But being too tense is more likely to make your fears come true of course, so I do try to relax as much as possible.
Played again today after a little break and had two forms of bad luck… after the S1 road adventure was finished, I had the ‘you were disconnected’ message during the final scoreboard display. Whether this means I will be punished I don’t know yet.
Also I came second to a league 8 player who had grandmaster type pace, in a Ferrari 458 which I didn’t even know was that fast.
Actually just checked the leaderboard and it says I only lost 3 points in which case it’s not so bad.
Thanks so much guys! Yes, I’ve been playing a ton!! I just need those last few points for the game to acknowledge my league 1, but I’ve been getting soooo many +0 lobbies D:
Apparently my luck has run out. Been having the worst night of my life on this game and dropped 42 points in a few races I felt like this would happen as I was seeking those last few points
Sorry to hear that Mr M. Hope you managed to recover the points back. I had a similar experience last night as I got pushed around a checkpoint in the last race and only finished 3rd overall, costing me 30 points in my last event of the evening. Basically wiped out all the gains I’d made in the previous two hours. So irritating as well as the only reason I hadn’t already passed him was because it was one of the tight Edinburgh circuits and I was trying to find somewhere to do so without compromising his race.
Thanks! I’ll gain those points back eventually. I’m sure you will too. Just feels like such a mountain to climb when you can barely get anything better than a +0 lobby
Had a very painless recovery of the points I lost yesterday - 4 adventures, 4 wins - +9, +12, +8 and +4 I think. Had a rammer in the last three but, after nearly getting put into a wall in the first race, saw him coming every time after that and managed to avoid any danger. Back over 4,700 again.
ok guys, two things
1.
I don’t play the game for long and I’m not a good driver I use the steering wheel. During the first team rides, I had a certain suspicion that something about the physical principles of the opponents was wrong however, after a bit of tunning and staying with a decent style of riding, I made a seasonal team challenge soon for the next times …
During the custom online adventure, I started googling a bit and soon found the answers :-)))))))))))
I found opinions that ramming etc is actually fun and let’s play as an action frenzy …ok why not
actually it’s quite funny and sometimes end up first when the opponent seems to have finished is ehm interesting. If someone is interested in my attempts at blueprints, which can look like supertunning, I’ll be happy to give them to him as well as the info as I got the results Now I don’t need money in game and I managed to buy my favorite cars very conveniently in the marketplace
2.
I discovered that even though the game is presented as an arcade, some cars are prdeveloped really well with a physical model that tries to match reality and there is no need for any tunings, rather it devalues, there is no need to turn on any assistants like abs, traction, stability and when the shift with the clutch is used
the performance and contrel shifted another level. For example … Ferrari F40 Competizione where in reality there is only a steering wheel pedals and gearingr with no asistents is a tough enemy with lots of points to win revard with this setting.
To the question, would there be anyone or a team for online races who prefers to win with the benefits of cars and not rage? The races thus get a different dimension and those who would like are discouraged by the current “situation”
Thanks.
Playing with AI opponents is useless because they are disproportionately aggressive during up expert level and there are bizarre situations with unrealistic car configurations, idea of the race losing sense.
Hey ketflip. We talk about free-for-all ranked racing here, which unfortunately does have a fair amount of rammers since people are so desperate to win. In terms of ‘winning with the benefit of cars’, you should know that there’s a pretty well established ‘meta’ of cars and tunes that people use online to be competitive. This spreadsheet isn’t quite up to date, but it’s not bad, and it’s the best resource I know of: Forza Horizon 4 - Competitive Cars List for Ranked Racing - Google Sheets
If you have a car or tune that you like you might want to compare to this^
As far as communities of people who race together with a gentlemen’s agreement to race clean, I don’t know much about it but you might want to look into joining a team to do Team Wars (which is just organized races between teams).
On another note, I finally got enough points for the game to acknowledge my league 1
And for whatever reason it shows me as GM on the leaderboard… Feels kinda empty and I might go for 4850 at some point but I don’t know if I want the stress rn
Great job Mr M! Shame there isn’t any kind of fanfare around reaching GM. It’s a bit like setting a WR at Rivals, where the game doesn’t acknowledge it in any way. The type of little detail which would be really good to have but I guess we are still struggling with some of the basics anyway!
I made no progress yesterday. Had three events in a row with the same decent slightly lower ranked two main opponents. Tied for 1st in two of them but, as I’d been behind after race 2, they went down as losses . Narrowly lost the other one as well and lost about 25 points in total, which wasn’t quite covered by my 7 wins. Frustrating as I think I got the short end of the stick with grid positions in those three events (the one I started 9/10, 7/9 and 6/9 was particularly irritating). Good fair clean racing though.
Too bad about your races. The grid positions really make it feel like a coin toss if you run into players you’re not significantly faster than. Don’t beat yourself up about those.
What frustrates me most is how many races it takes to get points back when you only get points for beating league 6 or higher.
