AC has bad pad support and you can´t fully explore the physics this game has (or any other sim in fact) without a proper wheel. As far as the graphics/content goes, they will get better overtime, but you have to remember that this game is made by six people with a low budget.
Modders are not supposed to fix anything. The base game is good and complete.
There is a side by side comparison vid somewhere on YouTube of some guy in a tuned Clio vs a similar car being driven in fm5. Both on the ring, of course. The lighting was different due to time of day in the real car, but comparing the real versus virtual version, it was remarkable how accurate the fm5 version looked. Yes, even down to hills and elevation, track width, etc. the only real difference I could spot was a small bridge missing in real life (the real vid was shot in 2011), and the graffiti was different
I’m inclined (Pun intended) to think it’s the view. Noticed since FM3 that if you use the rear facing camera just after you’ve been through a section that looks flatter than is should be, there seems to be a hell of a difference to any of the forward facing cams gradient wise. Like multiplied x2 difference. Could be fish eye or some other effect, possibly added for sense of speed.
I want to see a speed matched comparison video of the Ring and the real thing. The video I posted when I wrote “Some Perspective” doesn’t look like the ring has been flattened. But it’s difficult to tell with both captures being at different points any time I pressed pause.
Well then, in no way does the missing bumps mean that the ring is accurate to the millimeter, or what ever impressively small measuring unit mentioned.
I got to thank you DUST, ever since you wrote that I have been looking at Forza with a microscope. I have to say, I am not liking what I see.
Bring on Project Cars! It will be nice to enjoy a GOOD RACING SIM instead of a hollow semi good sounding piece of eye candy.
But that is why I feel like half of this game is going to be left to modders to fix.
just like the sounds etc. Im all for improving the game, and I get its a small team. I have pleanty of early access games from small teams. But if you are introducing shader changes, new sound functions etc then this isnt beta. its still alpha and should be labelled as such.
Going to rant for a second here: Why worry about modders and what they can do with sounds (or cars and tracks) at this point in time when what you have doesnt even work properly? The only place you have all sounds is in cockpit view. I mean sure. Think about modders and the tools they will need. Setup the framework etc. But dont for the love of god make it a main feature of a build note, as that only gives the impression that its all going to be left up to modders.
The modders shoehorned themselves into assetto. The SDK’s have only been released recently, and only because people where already heavily modding the game with new ui features, hud’s, tracks, and car skins. They have always wanted the modding presence there, but I don’t think they wanted it till the game itself was 100% finished. It just shows how open ended they made the game, which is a good sign for the modding community. I don’t know when the full game will be released, but I don’t think Kunos are expecting the modding community to “fix” anything. The only thing I have added into it myself from the user created content available, is the odd track. Everything else is as Kunos has made it, and I very much prefer the driving feel over Pcars.
