Hey all. I know this is a bit late but I wanted to know what your opinion is of Forza 5’s tracks in terms of it’s accuracy. I knew that Turn10 laser scanned their tracks but wanted to know how precise they were so I created a video comparing the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife between a real life 2009 Nissan GT-R and Forza 5’s 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition(Stock).
I would love to hear some feedback on what everyone thinks of Turn10’s attempt to recreate the famous Green Hell and other tracks.
Video here
-Thanks Turn10 for featuring my video on Forza Motorsport Week in Review 1-16-15!
Having driven the Ring, I can say without a doubt that the Forza 5 version of the Ring is the closest I have seen to the real thing. The bumps are more present and more realistic and the sense of speed is much more realistic. Its not completely spot on but I would plop someone in a rig and tell them to play with the track before they try to tackle the track in real life with confidence.
Awesome! While making the video, I was surprised at how well the two clips synced so I believe Turn10 did an amazing job recreating the track. But from your experience, what would you say is the most noticeable difference/similarity between the real and virtual ring?
The biggest difference for me is the inherit bumpiness of the track is missing. The track is a patchwork of various combinations of pavements. Since the track is so old, some places are rough and it unsettles the car. Obviously the elevation changes never come through on a video game.
Great vid mate. I dare anyone to watch it and still claim forza’s not accurate.
The biggest difference for me is the ring on Forza looks brand new also that part of Germany has never seen a day as nice as that
Jan Magnussen, Micheal Schumaker. Type that in youtube and you’l see a very beautifull depcition of Nurburg. It’s actually very nice and even a bit more green than the game shows and I used to believe it was too good to be true lol.
Did I miss something, or is there not a single dead/leafless tree in the FM5 recreation?
Great job on the video by the way! The extra effort you put into syncing the clips continuously really puts it above the typical “Real Vs Game” videos!
The video is awesome! Great work and thanks for sharing!
I really enjoy the fact that there’s some sun in this version of the Nurburgring. That cloudy shady overcast in FM4 (FM3 too maybe? Hard to remember that far back) always made it seem doomy and gloomy. Let there be light!
Swifterity thats spectacular.
Seems like the GTR had good weather in both real life and in the game.
My son and I drove 2 laps each last July in a race prepped Renault Clio RS 200 Cup from one of the rental companies there. Roll cage, Semi slicks etc…
But it poured bloody rain the whole time. What was funny it is almost similar to Forza… 1/2 a lap in I realized that traction control and stability was on…
Since I recently got Forza 5 I haven’t taken the time to ride the ‘Ring’ in the game yet as I’m working on career but after watching your vid comparison and seeing how well T10 have replicated the bumps and undulations I’ll maybe have to forgo my next career session and whip up a car for the ring.
Best part was just like the game, the errant drivatard in the real vid pulling into the 2nd carousel when the GTR is closing is just like the real thing and the game the putz needs to focus on his mirrors and stay to the right as instructed for driving on the ‘Ring’ unless your the faster car and passing.
What Forza does not ever in instill in you is the fear of crashing… or the fact that you just put $6000 as a deposit on your Credit card in case you don’t return the car in the same or similar condition as you got it.
Thanks mate! When recreating the lap in Forza I was definitely pushing the car(not noticeable but almost lost control of the car in the video on one of the long straights because a tire touched the grass) but had to pace myself and try to drive it like how a person would drive it in real life.
I definitely noticed that the driver took some corners with more caution than I did in the game(especially near the beginning). Looking back at it, the driver in the real life car set an amazing lap as I wasn’t pushing the car lightly in game.
If I’m correct, the Forza version seem to be longer that the real life version (the straights) This would explain why you can duplicate real life stock car times…
Besides the time of day and lack of graffiti on the real track I really can’t tell much of a difference between the two. Even the trees that I noticed were in the right place.
I feel the FM5 bumper cam still sits too high. Apparently they haven’t fixed this since FM3. I also noticed this in FH2: it appears to sit at the right height for SUVs, but not for ultra-sleek exotics.
Not too stray too far off-topic, but I feel T10 should address this. Maybe give us a choice of Bumper cam 1 and 2, much like Chase 1 and 2. One of the cam views needs to sit on the actual bumper, in which case so much of the road is not visible, it’s VERY low to the ground.
The real-life view on the left appears just right… and you get the illusion the track’s wider… it’s not, the cam is actually sitting on the bumper that’s why.
Rant over.
Great track accuracy, I’m impressed. And it also appears, lighting-wise the FM4 Ring was more accurate.
-Oh and Kevin Estre which is very nice. The only real difference in the videos is the vanishing point for player prefernce to get a better view of the track. However with the real time, the car is going at higher speeds and it makes the corners appear less “sharp”, but in G’s I’m betting the grip levels are very much the same.
