Forza Motorsport Graphics Downgrade research and comparisons

It’s still a compressed image man!

This might surprise you: You can even compare the quality of a seafood restaurant to a pizzeria. Even if they don’t prepare exactly the same menu.
So show me any route in any weather where the image sharpness and detail in the distance is good on the XBOX. If you don’t play this on XBOX, then ask yourself what you want to contribute to this specific cause.

All you contribute is complaining about things nobody else sees. You have special eyes?

You can’t compare the things you see when you play with a portion of a compressed image enlarged

That’s why you are asked to provide a perfect reference image from FM. If this looks better than the compressed ones from GT7, then you can still take care of the compression.

Why don’t YOU provide PERFECT uncompressed pictures? It’s like you are a troll or something.

Really? The two crops look the same quality for you? And you play on PC for what reason?

I play on PC because it’s the best quality. But why don’t YOU show us pics?

I stopped playing on consoles 20 years ago because of that…

I’ve never seen this in 650 hours of play explain me why please

Everyone here seems to be completely missing the point. The argument being made here, as far as I’m concerned, is that one game has softer antialiasing than the other.

You could compare the current motorsport to motorsport 7 and the new game would look even worse by comparison (when specifically comparing image clarity).

Zooming in does matter here, when comparing image clarity it’s the only way you can tell the difference on a small screen or through image compression. That doesn’t mean the difference isn’t worth noting.

When comparing resolutions the same applies. If you want to showcase how much sharper 4k is over 1080p you can zoom in to see the difference, that doesn’t mean there’s no noticeable difference in 4k.

Edit: before a race starts, look closely at the details in the distance. As soon as you start moving, they’ll get a lot softer that’s the issue here, and that may be why some of you don’t think your games look the same if you’re only checking when the camera is stationary.

In my opinion, the PS5 compressed JPG images are superior to any other image from the XBOX version of FM. Should I now look for even better ones? Or better ones from the XBOX? I talk about this all the time: I can’t find anything that looks nearly as good. That’s why I asked one of the fan boys: Show me what it’s capable of.

Because you sent me a low res image! Therefore I asked you to provide a real 4K image as it appears on your XBOX.

I didn’t send you anythin

Offtopic i currently watch Band of Brothers a war series that is 23 years old. And it looks fine in 1080p.

I can barely remember a thing, because i really watched that 20 years ago for the first time and never again.

Here are some comparisons by digital foundry themselves. We can ignore the console comparisons and potential heated discussions by comparing GT7 to Forza, and keep the comparison within the forza games themselves. There’s still an issue here. The image quality is a big step back.

These are compressed screenshots taken on a 1080p screen of a compressed YouTube video, and there’s still a notable difference.

Sorry! You’re right. It was someone else who sent this as a comparision.

Yeah the cars in FM7 have massive jaggies all across the roof areas.

Jaggies, yes, but also much more detail, especially in the environments.

Its a tradeoff obviously, but they’ve gone too far the other way with a tremendous loss in clarity. It’s especially egregious as the most basic options aren’t provided to chose the tradeoff you prefer.

In update 7 it looks like the developers changed the gamma to make the game less washed out. Small improvement but it makes the game look a lot nicer in some areas.
