Forza horizon 4 vinyls

I’m trying to find out if there is a way to flip the vinyls in Forza horizon 4. I was working on one of my cars and wanted the vinyls to be symmetrical on the bumper of the car but couldn’t find a way to do so. If anyone knows if there is a way to flip the vinyls please let me know or if there is not a way. I’ve searched around but there is nothing that I could find to indicate if you can or can not flip vinyls.

The only way to do so is to place your Vinyl Group on the side of the car, then go over to the other side and select [Insert from Left/Right Side].

Was going to say the same thing. It amazes me that people still ask this. It’s so obvious but escapes many people.
Maybe if they put a tooltip in game that says “want to reverse your vinyl? Simply insert left side to right or vice versa and hey presto! Magic!”.
Or something.

Copying all decals from one side of the car to the other doesn’t fix the situation if you have any text in the design, or if you want to mirror decals on the roof/front/rear or spoiler area.

The fact that there is no option to flip a layer or group makes making good looking livery’s stupidly-difficult.

The only way i can figure out how to do it is to copy each text group individually then paste in on the other side and attempt to estimate the same position. If anyone knows of an easier solution please feel free to say so.

So far the whole decal/vinyl editor in FH4 is a pain to use and it sucks that to make a nice livery on my FH4 car, I need to open FM7 buy the car and make the livery in FM7, then sync it over to FH4.

Barring that, if you want to keep things symmetrical on two sides of a car (say, a pair of racing stripes along the roof as an example) you need to pay close attention to the numbers that mark the position and size. Usually, the only thing you need to do is stamp a copy of the vinyl, then move/re-size that vinyl to the same value as before, but with the negative (-) sign.

Say you have a flame you put on the right side of the roof and you want an identical one on the left edge of the roof. If the right-side flame is at a position of 55 and a size of 10, then you want to stamp a copy which you’ll then move to -55 and change the size to -10. This will flip the decal as well as line symmetrically opposite the first decal.

Sometimes. Often the car’s positioning isn’t symmetrical. The centre will be .5 to 4 points to one side of zero. Or when you insert from one side to the other and you have to move everything up or down to match the other side.

What do you mean mirror on the roof? You take it off, put it on one side, insert it to the other and copy that back to the roof! What is hard about that apart from a few button presses?
As for text, you have to take that out of the vinyl group, mirror the vinyl group, then add back in. This is all basic livery editor stuff! Very basic.
Perhaps a look at the paint forums for some walkthrough guides may help you.

Well thanks for the advice, but there was no need to act all snarky dude.

plus…

As basic as that sounds, there is no way to mirror a vinyl group in FH4. This is obvious stuff, very basic.

What? I was not being snarky in that first part at all.
The second part that i wrote is how you do it, your reply makes no sense! What do you mean. There’s lots of ways to mirror it by copying from one side to another you then have a mirrored vinyl. Don’t know if uncomprehending or trolling.
All will become apparent in the near future i feel…

Ok, I apologize for my misreading of your post, I have been coming down with a flu and am a little irritable and short tempered.

Sorry, I just cant see the sense that turn10 didn’t use the same features from the motorsport 7 livery editor.

For one … Turn 10 are not the devs for the Horizon series of games. That’s Playground. And the enhancements added to the FM7 vinyl editor (like the option to flip vinyls) were only added recently … when Playground was in the last development phases trying to get Horizon ready for release. Popular thought is that they had so many other more important things going on that they didn’t do anything with the editor because it already worked as it was and focused their efforts on everything else leading up to launch. Hopefully once things settle down a bit in Horizon 4 we’ll see the same enhancements added to it as well.

I must be missing something in this discussion as I cannot seem to grasp what the problem might be.

Mirroring vinyls from one side to another?

  1. Insert from left/right side.
  2. Copy vinyls, switch to another surface and paste.
  3. Group vinyls, copy, paste, move X or Y from 100 to -100, turn through 180 degrees.

What exactly is missing?

A button that does it automatically… (sorry, I couldn’t resist)

Of course this is the way… But there should be a flip horizontal/vertical button… Maybe holding two buttons at once.

TWO buttons at once? Are you mad?

you can invert the vynils with the size tool
move it to negative and they flip the vynil without coping sides

That’s only for the individual vinyls, you can’t do that once they are grouped together into a design.

easy to group and ungroup sections as for lettering leave it till last group your word copy select the other side insert had to do it that way for the falcon

It seems it was mostly answere in the basics of using rotate and negative side to mirror, but want to add a couple points that I didnt see in my browse filled with an etiquite debate.

First is for top and bumpers. 0 IS NOT MIDLINE! Easiest way to verify is to put an arrow on the hood. Vinyl is offset a bit to the left side of the on many car. So need to shift 4.00 to the opposite side in my experiences.

So this means if something is at 100 on right side, it is actually only 96 from midline. Other side then needs to be at 104 then for it to be symmetrical. If proof is needed, let me know and can snap pics from positioning the hood vinyl for my cheyenne and other cars.

Have the devs ever said why this most simple of features which they could implement in two minutes hasn’t been added? Is it an oversight? Has anyone asked them?

I would say a good workaround is to do your liveries in FM7 and then import them to FH4, except I tried that earlier and found FM7 wouldn’t import anything else. But if that works for others then it could save a lot of faffing about to workaround a basic missing feature which really should be in FH4.
