Is anyone else having this issue with the PC version of forza horizon 4? Every time I enter a speed or drift zone, the game crashes. I can avoid the game crashing by going around the speed zone, but its not ideal and I shouldn’t have too. It has only started to happen recently as well.
Yep. You’re not alone - a quick web search shows many people running into it.
Many proposed fixes, won’t post them here, who knows, they might work.
From what I can gather, they are aware of this issue, so I hope they’ll fix it at their end.
Til then it “takes the gas” out of playing FH4, so to speak.

From my experience fresh Windows install fixes this problem.
Yeah, I’ve tried that several times. Re-installing windows and forza. No luck. Its very annoying. the game works perfectly fine the rest of the time. I can complete races, level up all on high graphics settings But as soon as I enter a speed zone(drive through those yellow gates in game), the game freezes and crashes

Yeah you are not alone with this at all! Really hope this will be fixed and not ignored
I installed Horizon 4 on a secondary pc I had (i5 4590 gtx 1070) and the game works fine (although with some input lag due to the i5), I can enter speedzones etc just normaly now. Really have no Idea what could be the cause of the crashes on my main pc, the installed software, windows updates and nvidia drivers are basically identical. Must be a service or system specific file that is causing the issues but evenviewer doesn’t really make that clear.
Update windows.
Update GPU drivers.
Repair/scan/consistency/verify the game files.
Run advanced disk clean up.
Open the Microsoft Store, and check for updates for ALL apps.
Open CMD:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
sfc /scannow
chkdsk C: /f /r /x
Install CCleaner, and clean registry.
I play on Windows, Game Pass, PC., i7-7700k & 1070 fe. NO issues.
Chuter.
PS. If someone tries all that, and still has issues let me know because I can come up with more things to try.
The fact that this is still an ongoing issue for so many people and it hasn’t been fixed just shows how little these companies care about us. FH4 is no longer what’s making them money so in their view who gives a crap if the game is ruined and literally unplayable. This isn’t an issue on our end, it’s on theirs and this is clear based on the other long thread with over 100 replies with people having the exact same issue.
FH5 is what’s making them money right now, as long as it’s working well enough for the next year or so then screw everyone else who dares complain about previous games being unplayable. They even listed this issue as the primary PC related issue that they are aware of… will they ever fix it? Nope, they caused it and now they will keep it unfixed as a way to try to force more people to buy FH5.

Well, now it’s happened for me as well. I can still play the game on the Xbox One, but not on PC anymore. Driving into (!) a speed zone or out of (!!) a drift zone causes the game to freeze and then crash. We should form a club.
I’ve thought of quitting playing the game for some time as FH5 is already stressful and I’ve got nothing left to earn in FH4. Now might be a good time to just fling the game out the window. Too bad I don’t have a physical copy to crush.
I was going to put this down as yet another reason I won’t play anything developed by Playground Games and/or Turn10 ever again, but since FH5 and FM that list already makes War and Peace seem like a pamphlet.

I’ve been playing this game since 2019 and never encountered any problem. But about a month ago, the crashes started happening. Sometimes it’s random crashes for example, when stopped or when cruising around the highway but almost every time I go through a specific drift zone or speed trap, the game crashes.
In races / missions it’s running fine but when going through the Main Land, it crashes after 10-15min of playing on average.
This is what I tried for fixing it 
:
- Updating Nvidia Driver
- Updating Windows
- Reinstalling the game (about 5 times)
- Run a malware scan
- Uninstalling all the unknown name apps through Windows Settings
- Reset the settings in-game
- Reset the setting in windows setting for this specific app
- End task of almost every app that could be running the background
- Disabled Xbox Game Bar
- Disabled Xbox App
- Disabled Nvidia Experience
(Those last 3 run at game launch) - Run the game in windowed (not full screen)
- Some reported the game fixed after changing 144fps limiter to 74fps, I tried : nothing
- Running the game in different video setting, not a slight change
- I am monitoring my CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM and FPS and a few days ago, CPU was running constant near 100% when in-game, now it’s running around 60% but nothing changed regarding the game crashing
- Playing on wheel/ on keyboard
- Playing online/offline
I play on :
I7-4970 3.6ghz
16GB RAM
RTX 2070 6GB
SSD
Temps are always optimal
I’ve spend too much time trying to fix something that’s probably unfixable. What gets me crazy is nothing has changed on my PC, the crash just started happening for no apparent reason.
What I think is happening is Microsoft have created two very similar games : FH4 and FH5 and the only way for them to get FH4 players to buy this almost copy of the old game is to make it act up. Their licensing has expired in Oct 2022, this means they don’t have to maintain this game anymore. Not maintaining it would’ve been a blessing but I think making the game unplayable is their plan.
If you go into a speedzone you crash
If you exit a driftzone you crash
If you register a new road you crash
same goes for the dlcs it doesnt matter if youre in lego champions or fortune island the issue is the same
Ive tried playing on another account and that kind of fixed the problem but not quiet
on the other account i didnt have any speed or drift zones 
thats not really a fix
Everything else ive tried didint help. Ive heard that steam players dont have these problems.
Forzathon events will crash your game as well (the speedzones and driftzones)
you can participate in every other stunts apart from those
For me i kind of got used to just going around the speed zones and drift zones at this point I know every zone by memory and i have ptsd in fh5 when i go into one.
I also struggled with this problem, but I found a solution.
I created a new local account on a PC that uses a different microsoft account, and it works fine on the new account, I think it is a communication error between the application and the microsoft account your local account is registered to (at least I think).
My account in the xbox app is still the same, so I haven’t lost any progress in the game.

I’m also having this issue on PC XBox version. In Steam it works fine without any issues or crashes.
