Yea I completely get you. Forza just doesn’t seem to get the sound right. I don’t think they can fix that tho. But this has been the biggest let down for me.
unfortunately it will probably carry on to FH4. A shame since FH2 had correct sounds for alot of cars.
They did fix the mk3 supra tailights so there is hope, bit most likely the sound wont get fixed.
Turn10 just needs a new audio recording employee, plain and simple. Maybe even newer equipment to capture sounds better since we have games like need for speed and project cars and those games have some decent sound in all aspects. Come on guys please improve moving forward with the next iterations.
This may sound a bit harsh but I believe they’ve been lazy as of late and not pumping in the same love and motivation as the previous Horizons. FM7 better impress off the charts because if it does, I’m thinking of sticking only to the FM games for now. FM6 was a decent upgrade from 5 at best, but H3 a sheer disappointment.
Oh well, in the end, I suppose PG will do what’s right for PG. I’d love to be proven wrong though.
One l desperately miss is race transmission sounds. That is the straight cut gear wheeze. Some race cars have it. I think in other Forzas you could get that sound by installing a race gearbox.
You bring up a good point Eddy. The straight cut gears sound was something they did up until FM4 - a Sport tranny would exhibit the whine but it was more prominent after installing a race tranny. They just ditched it in FM5. So even though the overall tone, pitch and audio character was improved for a few cars in 5, and even 6, overall… it has been a letdown. Horizon 3 is the worst sadly - dozens and dozens of cars share the same base sample with hardly a few EQ changes.
Hate to see a developer give less importance to a particular aspect of the game, something which I think is SO important in a car game that pays attention to visual detail and claims to have realistic physics. A major gripe I’ve had is how the audio signature of the car does not change after applying engine upgrades. It was almost perfect in FM2 and a somewhat decent attempt in 4.
Why they keep cutting really great stuff from the series, I will never understand. Oh well, there are other car/driving games to try out. We’ll be getting lots of variety this year, mind you!

Good point. It does not sound or look that believable compared to what I’ve seen IRL.
IMO, backfire sounded and looked pretty good in FM4. Horizon 2’s effect sounded decent but did you notice how there were variations in how the backfire looked depending on weather you lifted your foot off the throttle at 100 mph or 150 mph? It was a neat little feature that made it a lot of fun to change gears and go off-throttle at different speeds, just to see and hear variations in exhaust backfire.
In H3, you just have a single and flat, monotone flash, no matter what speed your at. However, its ironic how convincing the flash looks on AI or other player’s cars because they flash multiple times in succession. It’s a lot like how the sounds are inaccurate when you’re driving, but when a drivatar passes you by, they are spot on!
Very sad to see PG not taking the inconsistencies and almost game breaking bugs seriously. Really irks me as a consumer and shatters my confidence in terms of making future purchases.
Here’s some honest advice - if you want to hear realistic sounds in a car game, pick up all Forza games on The One except H3!
New Vauxhall Corsa sound is awful to.
Just like the Civic Type r, they used the Focus RS sound for that, thats why no vtec lol, also the 599XX coming will have the sound from the LaFerrari FXXK
wow guys thanks for your answars i was soo in love with the game on my sister 360 and i was very extied for the forza coming to pc but its not what i think it is fh1 and fh2 have thet felilng like a real fest
and real car suond its not hard fh3 fm5 and 6 have the same engine thet runing the game the suonds can be copied look at crhome the modder thet make bus mod on fh3 the suond like a real one

Why base the game on anywhere? Take the money that they were going to expense out for a scout team to gather data on a location and spend it on a decent sound team. Jeez, with all the stuff they yap about taking 2 weeks to laser scan a car and so on and you mean to tell me that they don’t take the 2 minutes required to record the engine sound.
BTW I seriously doubt the 2 week claim to create a car. 6 hours dev effort each car, tops.
Wonder why they dont have 2j swaps. They don’t have the sound for it.
Pretty sure the 3.0 inline 6 you can swap into other Toyota’s is supposed to be a 2JZ.
Well nevermind then. I was thinking there are no 2j swaps for other cars, 240sx for example.
It’s up on PG’s website that they’re working on a new non-car game project. I wonder if they’ll be making a 4th Horizon game.
The Shelby GT350R still needs to be fixed too, it sounds like a crossplane V8 as of right now unfortunately. A real shame cause they had the sound spot on in FM6.
