Go do a comparison for yourself guys, if you have Forza 4 and Forza 6, you will notice a vast difference. I prefer Forza 4’s sound, there should be an option to make the engine sounds louder in Forza 6.
A little bit, but I don’t have my one hooked up to my sound system at the moment. Didn’t notice any real change through my Sony noise cancelling headphones, but things sound pretty dang good through them to begin with.
The quality of the audio in 6 is better, but in FM4 the engines were loud and could be adjusted to be louder. I’d like to see that kind of adjustment come to FM6. That, combined with the better overall audio quality, would be awesome.
For the most part though, I think the volume and balance is pretty good, but some cars need some help.
The Ferrari 458 in Forza 6 sounds way better than in 4. In 4 it just didn’t sound right. The BMW M4 sounds too much like the E46 M3 for some reason though.
The Ferrari F12 is virtually spot on. Just let down by the sound on the downshifts. If they could get the downshift sounds right I’d be in heaven. Maybe they will by Forza 8 or 10 or something
I’m not gonna lie…
When I first read the title of this thread I thought…
Is this guy serious? Forza 6 has to absolutely crush forza 4 in all aspects!
That was my thought after 2 hours of forza 6 Gameplay & only thinking the e39 M5 was the only car sound that they destroyed & sounds like poo.
Well after driving a few more cars I have to say that there are some cars that sound incredible!
But some cars in forza 4 that were 100 times better sounding!
I think the e39 M5 was almost perfect in forza 4. I also think the Ferrari 599 gto sounded way more evil & on point in forza 4… I have only driven a few cars in forza 6 so it will be interesting to see if it gets better or worse.
It’s really sad that some cars sounded incredible in forza 4 & they seriously ruined a few of them sound wise.
You would think turn 10 would have some people that truly know about cars & could critique everything before making the game final.
The game seems to be nothing short of amazing , just some parts that were obviously no done right.
NO I do not know how to make a video game & I don’t mean to hate, I know they put countless amounts of hours & effort into making forza 6. & they did an excellent job!
Overall, I’d say 6 has better sound. We just need volume sliders to set it up to suit our individual preferences.
For example, many have complained the sound of the player’s own car is too quiet. I’ve only found this to be the case in a few cars, but I often find the music too loud.
SLIDERS!
Don’t understand how you can watch that and think FM4 has a better sound the quality is crap compared to FM6… And the reason FM6 is “quieter” is because when you are inside a car the sound is muffled since you are surrounded by sound insulation, this was something that FM4 didn’t replicate as they sounded the same whether you were inside or outside the car.
Well said. Come on Turn 10 this could still be great game if sort things out.
i find there is some serious issues with sound system in fm6
i find few cars sound better and most cars sound not what forza used to bring.
for me a cars game is 80% about the sound
i hope they fix these issues and replace most of the sounds with fh2 system especially the z/28 and z06
Let’s get this topic back on track.
The issue is not the quality, the quality is far superior to FM4 as all the likes on my first post seem to prove, many agree. The quality is far superior, a lot of cars sound better, some remain unchanged yes, but everything i’ve driven so far sounds awesome, apart from the paganis, couple of ferraris and BMWs too.
The REAL issue, is and always will be for now, LACK OF SLIDERS.
Tyre volume, too loud, other cars, too loud, that’s it, 3 sliders, would be sufficient:
= Engine volume
= Tyre volume
= Sound effects volume
Done.
Yea, sliders would help alot.
I remember having that some games ago. But Forza has “evolved” so much since that…
I agree with many of the engine sounds being a bit off and boring too.
Also i think the forced induction noise is lacking. In forza 4 if you put a supercharger on a V8 or V6 you could really hear the whine. Some cars/engines more than others, but now you can barely hear anything compared to FM4 which i really sad.
And the same for turbo and centrifugal supercharger, its just too weak in my opinion. Hearing those things just makes the sound more exciting for me.
This game has so many flaws, i cant play it more than 10 mins before i get too annoyed…
Plus 1 to sliders. I miss the ability to turn the tire sound up. I think they improved the engine sounds from fm4. I own a 65 mustang with a built 289 and fm4 did not get it right, fm6 is spot on.
I too, am very disappointed with the car sounds in FM6. I’m running FM4 on 360 and FM6 through the same audio setup with a huge sub and 5.1 surround, both on separate HDMI channels on my TV. I can switch between the two games and make several clear distinctions to how FM4 has superior engine sounds. The biggest problem I’m noticing right off the bat is a lack of bass in FM6. Set to the same volume level, just the idle of a foxbody Cobra R is enough to rattle my bookshelves and disturb my neighbors and roommates whereas FM6 barely moves any dust around… not to mention that gurgly 5.0 idle that I love so much is almost absent in the newer game.
Yes, I’m aware that engine sound is aggressively louder in FM4, but that doesn’t change the fact that the cars in FM4 just sound more real. FM6 may have better “quality” for playback, but when you hit the high RPM range on the cars, the sound starts to feel more synthesized and uninspiring. In FM4, every car had thunderous sound and every car was unique and close to their real world counterparts. Engines aside, FM6 has far superior tire sounds, collision sounds, and improved turbo spool and blow-off noises, but I’m just not as satisfied. Engine sounds are one of my favorite things about cars and I really think FM6 has taken a leap back to FM3 standards. I miss getting into any car in FM4 to hear those incredibly authentic motors screaming.
I really hope Turn10 addressees the sound, although I highly doubt any changes will come. It needs more bass, better sound across the RPM range, and adjustable sliders to increase aspects of the engine sound itself. I just don’t understand why as a studio they can’t recycle and improve upon their existing sound files from FM4 and 5…
I agree that the sounds in FM4 were more fat. I drive normally in the cockpit version and the engine is to quiet and it has to much resonance. Sure in the cockpit the sound is others like outside, but if you drive in the cockpit you want to hear the fat sound of the car like the old audi rs or quattro. With the sliders to ajustable the engine sound, tyres, and sound effects it should be possible for every one to get the own preferences. FM 4 were known for the best engine sound. Please bring it back.
I just tested Forza 4 myself just to make sure it was not my imagination… Sounds are indeed MUCH better and crisp on Forza 4 what comes to carsounds, compared to lackluster Forza 6 carsounds. I tested Nürburgring GP track race with AMG SLS and oh my, it was nice to actually hear your own car again! Instead on Forza 6 where all you can hear are 23 drivatar cars revving their engines and crowd cheering.
Someone should do Forza 4 and Forza 6 sound comparison to Youtube so this issue gets more publicity. And T10 should show its love to Forza community now, show that they really care, instead going to silent mode and hoping this gets forgotten!
The DTS is wayyyy out. The engine sound always comes from the rear no matter what car. Tyre squeal is always from the front even when over steering and on the whole it just sounds flat.
Completely agree and I run a beefy home theatre setup. I can confirm that none of the Aston Martins sound as they should… I can say this as I am lucky enough to borrow plenty of them for benchmarking purposes! Easy way to tell, take a V12 Vantage S and the engine note in second gear when releasing the throttle would usually have the most amazing burbling sound. Doesn’t exist. Would be good to understand how the game developers have done so many vehicles and think they are correct?
Really not seeing the problem here. I guess everyone has their preference.
Yeah some cars are wrong but every Forza has had some cars done wrong. Probably because they use similar cars sounds for cars they don’t record.
For what it’s worth I feel Forza 6 has more depth to the sound than any previous Forza and most other racing games. The balance could be fixed with sliders and at least it’s not just shouting the car sounds for the sake of it like PC or NFS.
A lot of the car sounds in Forza Motorsport games have never been that accurate to the real life counterparts, but the car sounds were always loud and sounded good so it didn’t matter.
Since Forza 5 the car sounds have been way too quiet and muffled.
Sliders for the audio will not be added though. This is Turn 10 we are talking about, not Slightly Mad Studios.
All that aside, I’m absolutely loving Forza 6 so it’s no big deal.
The issues I have with sound are the sound effects when you touch another car. It just sounds off, like a ‘snap’ and it’s the same sound everytime. I would prefer to hear some dynamic scraping sounds and different levels of hits.
I also was not too impressed by the sound of the cars hitting the puddles. It sounds like a belly flop into a swimming pool. Whether thats a realistic sound or not, I would prefer something a bit more dramatic and ‘watery (?)’ even if it had to be an artificial or stylized effect.
