FM7 - replay length and corruption?

I’ve searched on several sites including FM.net for an explanation or documentation, but fail to seem to get a definitive answer to the following issue: Race Replays randomly stop working. The emphasis is on the word “randomly” and I will explain why I put it that way.

Together with 2 other persons, we organize races for a select group of FM7-players on a Dutch site. In our first races, we split races in 15 and 30 minutes. To avoid issues about track behaviour, we advised our members to save the replay and share when a penalty was deemed necessary. Due to skill or luck, no penalties were awarded nor did we need the replays.

Recently we started a new batch of races, each amounting 1 hour racing in S-class cars. Depending on the tracks, that means 22 to 32 laps continuously and we are still able to save our replays (both on Xbox One and PC). To make highlights for the races, some members were hoarding the replays and wanted to edit/cut short clips.

Now we are getting “complaints” that replays seem to stop or corrupt anywhere from roughly 15 minutes into the race until around the 30 minute mark. But, never at the same point in time between replays. For instance, replay from person A for race A cuts out at 21 minutes and 7 seconds while person B from race A saved his replay and that stops earlier or later than the 21:07.

TL;DR?

Hopefully getting some information / support from members and moderators here: what are the theoretical limits that replays are supposed to be/saved (in minutes) and what factors can cause replays to stop/corrupt at random times for the same race/grid?

Or let us choose where to save the replay. If its the cloud that cant handle long replays, maybe a quick workaround could be to save replays local on the X1 or PC.

Ok some info Replays use to be 15 min max but due to a recent patch are now 20 minuits. There is mention in patch notes apparently from what was in anothe post about replays now being 20 minuits.

If it would be possible to do it quickly, they would’ve done it by now.

I guess the replay system is deeply integrated into FM and they won’t or can’t change it any time soon.

Thank you for your answer but it sidesteps the questions posted: what is the maximum length of a replay “by design” and are there (human) factors that influence the storage- and corruption-process?

For some reason your post didn’t show on my phone earlier but thank you for your reply.

The other day I ran a test-session and we averaged 2 minutes and 15 seconds per lap. The replay for a total of 10 laps (1350 seconds) played flawlessly and is thus longer than the mentioned 20 minutes. Another replay took 15 laps and with the same average lap-time, we were able to watch the replay up to 21 seconds into the last lap; quick math makes it 1911 seconds or easily past the 30 minutes mark.

Another member of our racing-competition seems to have repeating issues with separate replays cutting out between lap 7 and 8 or just under 19 minutes runtime. Another member never makes it to the beginning of lap 6 watching replays saved on his own console.

Although I want to believe patch-notes / release-notes, it still makes no sense how replays behave and “up to what time”.

Heck they haven’t updated the replay system in this game since fm3. The camera angles are horrible. Let alone actually thinking they would let u save more than 10 replays or longer than 20 to 30 mins, lol.

If they want to fix replay cameras but ain’t smart enough to know where to place the cams then just look at project cars 2 and follow exactly where they place them then we’ll be good.

And ya u should he able to save replays to hard drive as much time and as many as u want as long as u have the Hard drive space

If you’re talking about XBox games … all games on XBox consoles have a set game save and data file size limit decided on by Microsoft and the XBox team. These limits apply no matter how much available hard drive space your system may have and the game developers have to work within those limits.

Interesting post  Could this possibly mean that the replay-length (runtime in seconds), is limited by the amount of data stored in a replay?

All values are examples and not tested/proven: A replay-file cannot exceed 5MB. And every car on track generates 50KB per lap. That means you can run 100 laps on your own before the 5MB is full. But with 10 racers on track, it diminishes to 10 laps. And with 24 racers even further to roughly 4 laps.

Then again, it does not explain how one person can watch 10 laps of a certain replay while the same replay, shared online, only shows 6 laps before stopping on another console.

I wish the storage was integrated into OneDrive at some point but it will probably never happen.

i thought i’ll post it in this thread rather than opening a new one…it is kinda ‘corrupt’ yeah, 10 is really really low…i’m constantly overriding though i’ll like to keep bunch of them.

Issues i have in Nordschleife-replays i drive in daylight/sunshine and the replay shows overcast, but as far i could see, it’s only the nordschleife which shows the wrong weather. Another thing is the wheel-sync, i’m driving with a dfgt and in replay the wheel on screen turns 10-30° max., my wheel ingame ‘realtime’ was showing the correct movement up to 90°…tested the same with my xbox-controller, it’s totally sync with the wheel-movement i actually had realtime ingame.
