FM Update 20 Overview - 20th Anniversary Month

No this particular wall pops in & out of existence randomly during regular gameplay (cockpit view) both on PC & consoles

As fun as doing that is, this was a large chunk of wall that was absent that popped in while viewing it.

It is an AI voice

I don’t think so, only the text to speech voice is AI, that reads text in menus for handicapped ppl, but not the engineer or whatever it’s called that tells you your penalties and such.

I play the german version and it didn’t sound like AI that is for sure. I turned it off like 2 or 3 weeks after release of the game because it was annoying.

Driving the NSX-R GT in FM3 right now, I really wish that car made it in for this update (or as a body kit option for the NSX they fixed audio for). Alas, not to be.

agreed, I kinda figured paid DLC was coming but I’m still surprised Turn 10 chose to drop it in tandem with their their 20th anniversary, when ‘gvieaways’ are what’s expected.
definitely an odd decision… I’m still gonna buy it lol, but yeah, just weird.

Congratulations. It took you two years to fix the AI, too bad they still don’t understand that someone is braking in front of them. I dread to think what you could fix in the next two years.

AI definitevely looks faster than before, i usualy do the campaing using auto drive and AI to 3, by the end of lap one, before i was at least 5th, now it is struggling to get top 10

I barely touch the career races but I completed the first 20th Anniversary series and I’d say the AI seems to be improved - by some margin.

My last venture in career was the NASCAR update and I struggled to complete a lap without getting smashed to pieces.

Key Observations and Feedback from the 20th Anniversary update:

  1. The Fujimi Kaido track and its details are gorgeous and carefully crafted. IMHO, this is the first track in the game where details are actually present and the track is wonderfully varied. More fictional or real city based tracks please.

  2. The AI has been noticeably improved and seem to be more on their feet in terms of responsiveness and behaviour but still far from where it should be for this “next-gen/current- only title” compared to GT7’s AI.

  3. The Mazda Furai - an improved FM4 car model (unless a new one was scanned and remade) is kick in the shins to all FORZA fans who have awaited this car. This car ALONE should have been in the AUTOSHOW for everyone to celebrate the 20th Anniversary. (Though too early for a PAID car pack, the rest as a DLC are understandable)

  4. The RTGI and RT reflections are still horrendous when driving on track in Fujimi Kaido. Terrible visual noise, flickering, and artifacting in cockpit view under the steering wheel, air vents, corners of the dash, corners of the windshield, and corners of the mirrors.

  5. The game severely lacks a lot of color depth, vibrancy and contrast when compared to FM7, FH5 and GT7. This can be observed in the car paints, the foliage. track details and environment. Feels almost bland and pale as ever. Improved color depth and fidelity would significantly boost the track’s and a vehicle’s visuals.

  6. The vehicle cockpit view lacks any interaction or behaviour with light and foliage when driving. Zero reflections, shadows, light bounce or glare compared to FH5 and GT7. It is as if the interior was shot in a green screen, zero shadows, reflections and light bounce when passing in dark regions under the trees or in bright open spots compared to GT7 and FH5.

  7. Vehicle paint rendering quality and reflections are horrendously still a broken mess with parts of any driven and AI or player car being matte or satin somehow.

  8. Personally, these two are the dealbreakers, horrendous always-online barrier, and all car sounds are still atrociously dull, flat, synthetic and monotonous.

Reminded of this glaring problem when driving the 2023 PORSCHE GT3 R, the 2023 Porsche GT3 RS and the Aventador SVJ — nowhere near the glorious bassy, accurate and lively sound of the Porsche flat-six and Lamborghini V12 in FH5. Again, no transmission quivers and noises, no engine whines (metallic almost supercharger-like sound when driving in hood view), no bass and no depth at all. It’s very unfortunate really.

I still cannot emotionally connect to the cars in this game because of the lifeless and synthetic vehicle audio. If you asked a kid to create vehicle sounds, FM 2023’s car sounds would be the answer.

9.. Extreme FOMO, tedious time limited events and time-gating of new cars and suits is dreadful and getting out of hand. People should be able to play the update and unlock all its contents at their own pace and not through artificial time barriers and FOMO.

What is the actual point of the update if players cannot play and access them when they want?

  1. With the 20th Anniversary update - the overall vehicle lighting and global illumination has gotten severely worse! How much long will it take for you guys to fix your game’s visuals?

In short, a gorgeous track and wonderful addition of vehicles coupled with an always-online disaster, a lot of rough visual/audio issues, horrible game lighting, egregious FOMO and lack of access to all updated content due to severe time-gating barriers.

If an update is out, i expect to be able to play today, right now. And not have to wait 2-3 days for the events to get unlocked. It totally kills even the slightest bit of excitement i have for the update.

There are no spotlight cars anymore, so let us enjoy the entirety of the new tours without having to wait for a week in between each championship. We want to play the game, just let us play the game.

This update would’ve been a great opportunity to add the new tour as a permanent event, especially given it’s theme. New track is great. Drift meet and track day lobbies are a nice idea. But for me as someone who comes back into the game every now and then i would like to see the single player sorted out first.

Messing around can be pretty cool but i’m not coming back to the game to just mess around and senselessly do laps around a track. At that point, i might as well had stared into a wall, instead of opening the game. Which was pretty much my experience of this update on the day it launched. I know that the new events don’t really unlock until a few days later but i still fooled myself to boot up the game. And i did not particularly enjoy it a whole lot.

Again, i just want to play the game/ the update the way it was meant to be played at it’s fullest. And not get my excitement killed in less than 2 minutes once i realize nothing is out yet.

Update 20 has totally broken the car lighting system.
Environmental probes & AO are now only working in chase cam view. An absolutely disgraceful job by Turn10 once again. Every update breaks something. Reminder that RT reflections are broken since Update 13 (same for digital rear view displays in all cars that feature them).

I noticed this too! The game’s global illumination and lighting just looks even more desaturated, broken and flat compared to the 20th Anniversary trailer and the previous update! Utterly disappointed to say the least!

The tour is a permanent event

When do we get this livery?

@T10ManteoMax

As these are permanent events there was even less of a reason to drip feed the tours. You had an opportunity to maybe retain some returning players with this update, if you could have made a fun series that lasts a few hours. Instead of the one hour a week. Also would have given people more time to engage with the new AI.

On the subject of tours it was announced that the builders cup (career) would have new tracks added as they became available when the game originally released. I take it this was another false promise? I believe it was only Hock and Yas that ever got added (could be wrong on that)
