First tune attempt

I am trying to tune a D class BRZ for the Indy Oval track. I am currently 820th on the LB. Which isnt too bad I guess. I just cant get the car to go any faster. I tried adjusting the final drive either direction and my lap time only seemed to get worse. All race platform and handling except for weight reductions. Stock tires with 1 width up in the rear. Tires are at 33.5 hot and 210.4 degrees. Aero front/rear but no rear aero setting, stock front setting. Suspension I think is street. Roll bars are set a stock as well. I also tried a different build with and intake but didnt reall help. Any advice would be great.

Honestly you may have tapped it. Have you tried to change your build other the the intake part you mentioned? Maybe you can drop something else for more power or less weight?

There are BRZ’s in the top 100. I guess I will just have to keep stabbing at it. Not much you can do with the parts as far as I can see but im pretty new to the game. I think im like 3 seconds off from top 100.

Goonies – try looking into changing your build. I just got the car and put some different parts in and just got a #699 (1:05.844, 3 secs off top 10 and leading BRZ’s) with a base tune in 4 laps. Still need to tune to get it faster.

Here is what I did:
Platform & Handling: race springs
Drivetrain: street driveline, race diff
Tires & Rims: rear width 235
Aero: Forza on both front bumper & rear wing

All the rest is stock. Check this out and let me know what you think and/or if I can help. Good luck!

p.s. I am sorta a newbie yet been playing around with some builds the last couple of months. For some of the lower classes it seems you might not need all race for P&H and you went with the trans which might not be needed to pick up other parts.

Quick update – cleaning up the base tune (using the build in prior post) a little bit I was able to hit 1:05.591 for a #590 spot at the time. I’ll see what else can be played around with when I get some time.

OK, so for sure you need the springs race upgrade. Play around with other parts to hit the 400 PI. Then tune springs on the liter side. Here is an updated build where I hit 1:05.232 (good for #414).

Engine: all stock
Platform & Handling: race springs
Drivetrain: race diff
Tires & Rims: all stock
Aero: GReddy front bumper, GReddy rear wing

Keep playing with the build. Good luck!

*** Adding the (1) street driveline, the (2) GReddy rear street bumper, and, the (3) GReddy street side skirts helped with speed and lap times. Now sitting at 1:05.013 (#358). Have not played with tune yet, just messing with the parts. Should be able to drop inside the 1:04 range. Thus, the build can still use some tweaks in addition to a solid tune should help get sec off versus tenths of sec’s.

The top brz also has a roll cage and no aero. Raced againt his ghost and his car is clearly faster. I use the same line as him but he just has that extra speed in the straights.

OK, this is now officially our “little project”. Here is another build and it keeps getting better w/o tweaking my tune, which will be next.

The current build is:
Engine: all stock
Platform & Handling: race springs and roll cage
Drivetrain: sport trans, race diff
Tires & Rims: Design DH (Work)
Aero: remove wing (Subaru), street rear number GReddy, street side skirts GReddy, and street hood GReddy

Lap Time: 1:04.548 (finally broke into 1:04 zone), #229

Try this build as well…

I am currently testing this build:
Engine: all stock
Platform & Handling: race springs and roll cage
Drivetrain: sport driveline, race diff
Tires & Rims: Design DH (Work)
Aero: street front bumper GReddy, remove wing (Subaru), street rear number GReddy, street side skirts GReddy, and street hood GReddy

Note: Also test with changing the Aero (use the ings rear wing, instead of Subaru; ings can provide a little more speed yet increase in weight)

Ran against main LB’s with same car, darn they are fast.

I dont race D class but have you tried putting the heaviest wheels on there and removing the sport driveline to stock. Try putting in more power instead of taking weight out of it. Also you might want to look into putting an oil and cooling system on there to get a few more horsepower. Once you get that then see if you can put in a street driveline to remove 2 pounds. Not sure if any of this is possible but i would be more worried about speed in D class on indy than anything else

Thanks for the inputs, it’s certainly appreciated! We’ll check these recommendations out. This car is really hard due to it’s limitations on swapping parts to stay within the PI. I thought I had checked power, yet, we’ve made several changes thus need to revisit. Again, thanks!

Hey no thanks needed yet lol. If it helps or even possible then fantastic but if not it was worth a shot. But again i would look at the oil and cooling just because it does add weight and horsepower which that track is going to need power i would guess more than anything in D class. GOOD LUCK GUYS

1:04.7 is best that I could get. This is so frustrating! Still 2 seconds faster! I just dont get it.

The build is the most important part, right? Im not gonna shave 2 seconds off with the tune, right? I swear I have tried every motor combo out there but still barely break into the 1:04 range. I watched replays of the leaderboard guys and tried to use that to at least get the body parts, suspension, rims, rim size etc. What do these guys know that I dont? I even tried running the eclipse. Same outcome. This is seriously driving me crazy!

If you are running consistently then you are right and you will not shave that 2 seconds. I think Johnson has a good point and you may need some power in the build. I may have a go at this when I get home from my 12 hour day here :frowning: Ill let you guys know if I come up with anything. Whats the goal? Top 100?

Yes of course! Top 100 would be great! On the eclipse I put the most power(race block)I could into it and then added from there. Race springs, roll cage, bigger rims, no aero. Gave me 233 HP and 238 Torq. Most power by at least 10. Still can only hit around 144 by the end of the straight.

Have you tried raising the front ride height all the way and leaving the rear low?

No I havent. I literally have no tuning experience. I will give that a go later. Thanks.
