Final Drive

How is everyone finding the correct Final drive? It describes it as finding teeth and rotation ratios…those measurements can’t be found in the game? I don’t like not knowing why I need to change something because it leaves the door open to dumb luck. So what I’m asking is, is there a proven way to find the right direction to go with each cars Final Drive? Or is it just adjusting at random until I get a good one?

It really depends on the track you will be racing the car. You want to max out (at redline) for the gear you want to finish with at that track. For some tracks you can use less gears than what you actually have on your tranny. For general purposes, then, move the FD on the screen to get max speed. There are several threads you can search on this Tuners section describing process for gear settings (incl FD).

Thanks. And I’m sorry I forgot to mention that I’m asking specifically for Drag racing. I don’t care about circuit racing.

A reasonable shortcut to setting final drives is to test drive the car at Indy and set the final drive to whatever speed the car actually gets at the end of the home straight. The car won’t red line anywhere but Le Mans.

Section Width in inches = Section Width / 25.4
Section Height in inches = Width in Inches * ( Aspect Ratio / 100 )
Drive Tire Diameter = Rim Diameter + ( ( ( Section Width * ( Aspect Ratio / 100 ) ) * 2 ) / 25.4 )
FINAL DRIVE = REDLINE RPM * Tire Diameter / MPH * 336

Example:
355/25R21 ( Drive Tire )
8000 ( RedLine RPM)
200 MPH ( Forza calculated)

( ( ( ( 355 * ( 21 / 100) ) * 2 ) / 25.4 ) ) + 25 = 27.99
( 8000 * 27.99 ) / ( 200 * 336 ) = 3.33 ( Final Drive )
