This seems backwards to me. But tuning vehicle the other day and acceleration (simulator #'s) are improving when I lower the drive. I know that irl using a shorter gear (bigger number) nets better acceleration traction permitting at the cost of fuel eff and top speed. Am I not understanding what the game means when it refers to final drive ratio. Or are the simulation numbers inaccurate?
The game calculates the “performance statistics” numbers (0-60/0-100/quarter mile times, braking distances, etc.) by having the AI “drive” the car and pulling the numbers from that. If your longer gearing results in a faster time for the AI (one less shift, better powerband coverage, less wheelspin, whatever), it’ll display as “faster” even if it’s slower when you drive it. Similar goes for braking distances, top speed, and lateral grip. Just consider all of them a rough estimate and set your car up the way that works best when you drive it.
Very well said. I tune alot of drag cars, mess with gearing alot. The AI doesn’t know how to feather the throttle or drive through or to the edge of wheel spin. Like Mr P said, tune for what’s best for you.
