You can’t say that the Lego expansion for fh4 was bad, I thought it was fun it was something new that had never been done in a racing game before, and came with all sorts of new things to do and events to compete in.
Also I had all the Lego cars used in the expansion as actual sets except the Bugatti Chiron.
That is the F40, Mini cooper, Porsche 911, and McLaren Senna.
The speed champions line is a great theme for car enthusiast you should check it out.
I gave it a quick run. Went through the intro and then played two Grit events. Well, I was quite negative on FH5 in general, but I think this expansion is going to win me over. The races have some actual atmosphere to it and it looks like that somebody actually took effort while designing the roads and tracks. The few events I played so far have a great flow to them.
All in all, first impressions are great!
Pretty refreshing to hear such positive feedback on an update for a change.
Forza Discord Rally Adventure Q&A with Playground Games
Hey everyone, we’re excited to begin the Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure Q&A! Today we’re joined by three developers from Playground Games who will be answering your questions on all things Rally Adventure. Please keep an eye on answers here, which will be read only, and discuss everything over in the rally-adventure chat. With that out of the way, we’ll go ahead and get started by letting our guests introduce themselves!

Hey all, I’m Chris Phillips, Vehicle Director at Playground for Horizon and excited to chat with you all today!
Donbot — Today at 1:35 PM
Hey everyone, I’m Nigel and I’m a Level Designer at PG! I’ve worked on Horizon 5, FH5: Hot Wheels and more topically, FH5: Rally Adventure! I help design and create the worlds of Horizon, their super fun road networks and also worked on the Flood, Sweat and Gears showcase. Looking forward to kicking up some dust with you all in my Audi Quattro S1
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:36 PM
Awesome. Thank you all for coming in and spending some time with us today
- [1:37 PM]
First question is from @Burny0077 - You’ve mentioned during the announcement live stream that all races in the expansion can be raced in the “traditional” race style in the same way as the main map, or in the new “Rally” mode style. Will any of the events on the main map be retrofitted to work in the same way for those who own the DLC?
T|oil — Today at 1:39 PM
Oh boy, the question I had a sense was coming! Thanks @Burny0077 - there is a lot of specific setup involved in the Rally Calls specifically (they’re designed into the routes basically), and the roads of Sierra Nueva are explicitly designed for the mode, so sadly there are currently no plans to retrofit the mainland with Horizon Rally events. (edited)
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:40 PM
Next up is from @Brain943 - How will the Rally Adventure map feel different than the base FH5 map?
Donbot — Today at 1:42 PM
Thanks for the question @Brain943 - This all comes down to our road design (or ‘Fun Pass’) approach. To make a road feel like a Rally event there are extra layers of detail you need to apply to a road surface. For our Rally Adventure map, this comes in the form of adverse or ‘off’ camber, blind crests, high frequency movement and multiple technical corners stacked on top of each other. All of this detail creates a much more challenging and reactive experience you expect from a Rally event however it’s not something we would have applied to mainland Mexico, making the driving experiences on Sierra Nueva feel very different to the base FH5 map.
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:43 PM
Next question is from @m1k3g3tz - Will the story progression for the Rally DLC be available for co-op or strictly single player?
T|oil — Today at 1:45 PM
I’ll take that one. @m1k3g3tz coop 5eva. You can play the entire campaign start to finish in coop from the Expedition all the way to the end. There is one tricky bit - when you see the Rally Driving Line prompt - only the Convoy Leader will be shownthis, so I’d suggest that everyone decides if they want it off or on for themselves in the options menu. (Answering for several friends who will be playing coop with me).
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:46 PM
Next question from @DOR Hooper - How will the anti lag turbos effect acceleration if they do at all relate to how they’re supposed to work in WRC, or any type of Motorsport?
Chris Phillips — Today at 1:48 PM
A car question, one for me @DOR Hooper It is based off older systems used in rallying in terms of fuelling (to give the dramatic visuals and sounds) but with the modern twist. We are looking at the turbo RPM, when throttle positions is less than 100% and the turbo speed decreases the system fires (per cylinder, which makes the effect different for different engine types). When Launch Control is engaged the system is also forced to maximum effect to help the car build boost while on the launch limiter.
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:49 PM
Next question is coming from Blacky#4679 - According to the campaign progression, we will (eventually) need to do all the content from all the 3 teams in order to unlock the final Goliath race, so what is the biggest differentiating factor between the teams? (edited)
T|oil — Today at 1:52 PM
@BlacKy thanks for this! So, the three teams represent approaches to rally - which translates to surfaces: (Asphalt, Mixed Surface and Night Rally, which is a mix of those at night in rough weather - aka goblin mode rally)
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:53 PM
Next up - @FLASHBAXX_FLAXX wants to know: will we see the environment of the rally map change with the seasons, or will it remain unaffected like the Hot Wheels map?
T|oil — Today at 1:54 PM
Another one for me! @FLASHBAXX_FLAXX - there’s quite a big impact, actually. Storms and Dust Storms (which affect the entire map) are much more prominent in Sierra Nueva, for example.
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:55 PM
Next question is from @GTR_Racer94 - Will there be more Rally cars in the future and rallycross?
Chris Phillips — Today at 1:55 PM
Thanks for the question @GTR_Racer94 Unfortunately we can’t speak to up coming cars but these are car types in the hearts of everyone on Horizon!
T10 Buttons — Today at 1:56 PM
We’ve got more questions about teams from @Optochip - does choosing your team have any actual impact on the game or does it just show that you prefer a specific race type?
T|oil — Today at 1:58 PM
That’s for me1 @Optochip - it’s kind of at the heart of the career for the expansion. Unlocking a team unlocks the events associated with that team, as well as Team Missions (think Challenges), PR stunts and rewards. Once you’ve picked a team, you are “committed” to that team until you unlock the next one (this will happen around level 7 of your first team IIRC). But basically, I’m really excited to have built a campaign where you to commit to a discipline then progress with that for a while, before you get access to the next team.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:00 PM
Thanks for that breakdown Torben Next question is from @Simon Lewis - Could you elaborate on the process on creating this expansion - from the basic idea to designing to completing the expansion, and having the expansion on the same map itself unlike previous Horizon games?
Donbot — Today at 2:03 PM
Thanks for the great question @Simon Lewis - For the Level Design team we wanted to create as many unique Rally experiences as we could which led us to design a map with as many different biomes and points of interest as possible. In the north for example we have the Palm Forest which is quite a tense, lean in experience due to the foliage being so close to the road edge. On the opposite end of the scale, to the East, we have a huge crater filled with Sand Dunes which is wide open and thrilling to drive across at high speed. We have mountain roads high up above the map to the West with sheer drops either side, an incredibly narrow and challenging canyon road we internally labelled ‘The Corridor’ as well as a huge Quarry towards the South of the map. All of these unique biomes and points of interest allow us to make sure each Rally event feels different from a gameplay and visual perspective while allowing us to cater for all player types. This was our approach to the world design and we hope players enjoy the final result! Apologies for the long answer, got a bit carried away!
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:03 PM
The @The Scarlet Eye wants to know - Will there be an option to use antilag on twin turbos?
Chris Phillips — Today at 2:05 PM
@The Scarlet Eye Yes Any car with turbo chargers available to it will have Anti Lag, sometimes this will be via an engine swap. The last time I looked at the data it was available to over 630 cars!
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:05 PM
Next question is from @Allan Endopay - How much will the map change in accordance with the seasons?
T|oil — Today at 2:06 PM
@Allan Endopay thanks! Yeah, seasons are very much a factor in Sierra Nueva. Storms and Dust Storms are much more prominent, for example. Specifically dust storms affect the entire map.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:07 PM
One more quick question from @The Scarlet Eye - Will you be adding more rally-related rims with Rally Adventure?
Chris Phillips — Today at 2:08 PM
@The Scarlet Eye Thanks for the question! There are no new rim options as part of Rally Adventure but new rally parts are being added along with Anti-Lag and Tire Profile Upgrades.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:08 PM
@Saenu asks: Will the split time system shown in the Rally Expansion make its way towards races on the Mexico mainland map?
T|oil — Today at 2:09 PM
@Saenu - The split times are associated with the split gates and the simulated rally times associated with the mode. That means they’re not directly portable. I’d like to look at how this could be added to the main map, but don’t have anything to share about this, currently. Sorry about that.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:10 PM
Next up @DOR Hooper asks: In terms of environment what would be the highest elevation drop off?
Donbot — Today at 2:13 PM
I’m glad you asked @DOR Hooper! I don’t have the exact numbers to hand unfortunately but we do have some crazy elevation changes across the map! There’s a ridgeline running across the top of the Quarry which towers over everything, an area to the North West we call the ‘Three Hills’ where you can get some serious airtime as well as a huge Danger Sign jump over a Canyon to name a few! I personally love playing the Ambassador races because they include a lot of epic jumps and create some incredibly fun ‘wow’ moments for the player.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:13 PM
Got another from @Saenu - Will Collision Off option be added to Horizon Open Custom Racing?
T|oil — Today at 2:16 PM
@Saenu - A cool idea (would love to understand the specifics of how you’d want to use it - perhaps ping this info to @T10 Buttons ). No promises on timelines, but something we might be able to look at in future.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:17 PM
Next question is from @midnight - is it possible that we are gonna be able to thicken the size of tires in the near future?
Chris Phillips — Today at 2:18 PM
@midnight Yes! Alongside Rally Adventure we are adding the ability to increase tyre height on some Pickups, SUV’s and offroaders.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:20 PM
Next up @tdeclan336419 and @Hazar want to know about the length of the Rally Adventure expansion: about how long does it take to completely finish it? How much content can they expect?
T|oil — Today at 2:21 PM
Thanks @tdeclan336419 / @Hazar - “Average” player is very broad. As is “complete” - BUT! Internal playtest time suggests that we’re looking at something between 20-30 hours all in.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:22 PM
Got another great question from @Saenu - Will additional official track layouts be added to the base game or the expansions?
T|oil — Today at 2:25 PM
@Saenu - there may or may not be a wireframe of a new track layout in someone’s most recent Torben Tuesday tweet. F my mentions.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:27 PM
Next question from @Miyuki - Will there be an option that automatically disables the map during races to get the full experience?
T|oil — Today at 2:28 PM
@Miyuki - not automatically, no. (You can do this via the UI options if you want to). We did implement Rally Driving Line to encourage players to rely on the Rally Calls and the road ahead so this would be a natural next step if you wanted to go even further down this route.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:28 PM
@FΛᄂᄂΣП_/Enderboii4082 asks - What exactly will be added for the customization of cars?
Chris Phillips — Today at 2:30 PM
@FΛᄂᄂΣП_/Enderboii4082 Great question! 25 cars are receiving new visual rally parts (light pods, bash bars, mudflaps), over 630 cars will have access to Turbo Anti-lag and over 40 cars will have access to Tire Profile Upgrades.
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:30 PM
Alright next up @Døm asks - Can we expect a new feature/important aspect of the game to be introduced with this expansion (besides anti-lag)?
T|oil — Today at 2:33 PM
@Døm hey there. The Expansion is accompanied by launch control which, like anti-lag, was developed with the pack, but we felt it was important to give it to every player to keep the playing field even (which is why it’s in the Series update patch). The big new features are the Rally Calls and UI, as well as the new team-based progression-driven Rally Career which requires players to win races (not just finish them, and progress through disciplines. Oh, and for PC players, you also get DLSS 3.0 (and many extra frame for u) (edited)
T10 Buttons — Today at 2:36 PM
Well I think that’s all the time we have scheduled for today! Thank you so much for coming in and taking the time to answer some of these questions from the community @Chris Phillips @Donbot and @T|oil. It’s much appreciated
Chris Phillips — Today at 2:36 PM
Thanks for having us, it was great to be here!
T|oil — Today at 2:36 PM
Thanks so much for the questions, and sorry we didn’t have time to cover them all! See you all in Sierra Nueva.
Donbot — Today at 2:36 PM
Thanks for having us! Can’t wait to see everyone in Sierra Nueva!
The game isn’t available for another 22 hours or so. Did you just break embargo?
No, I just updated the game and the expansion was available to me
hehe… was wondering the same but got busy reading the Q&A (thanks for posting that T10ManteoMax)… curse my slow internets delaying me jumping into the “early” expansion
No, Steam messed up
Can you make it a seprate thread/topic?
Absolutely stunning
Amazing map and beautiful environment.
A post was merged into an existing topic: Report Series 19 update issues (ver. *.573.834.0) | March 28
Was hoping to see the “early” release too, but no such luck. I took the bait though when I entered the game & got the speech from Alex about how he’s a huge rally fan then says: “Well…you coming?” & it jumps to the map location, just so you can watch the trailer…again…
Btw, speaking of the trailer: am I the only one in this day of environmental consciousness that finds the concept of a “completely destroyable forest” a little disturbing?
On a positive note, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen this many players on the map at one time. Want an impromptu car meet? Just go park by the expansion location.
Yeah I thought E was for everyone, so what about the tree huggers? I don’t think they would take kindly to cars smashing down the poor defenceless trees oh well maybe they’ve brought in enough electric cars to save the environment and to make up for the deforestation
I’m sure they’re all diseased trees that need to clear “cut” by IC cars and trucks and the insects crushed beneath the tires and burned by the turbo exhaust flames ! All to save the bigger ecosystem from collapse !
I never meant to imply it was bad, just that it was an odd choice to pair with a racing game and a decision that was very divisive among the community. And agreed, no problems at all with Lego the toy line
Oh yeah forgot about the new anti lag flame throwers to burn the wild life.
Go on PGG’s show us a future expansion of Bugs Life where your avoiding the cars as anti lag fry’s your mum& dad and a truck splatters your kids
Or you could be a flying insect avoiding becoming a part of someone’s windscreen because as you know we need to be against environment destroying IC cars and what better way than coming from a nature’s point of view, oh wait it’s a car game?!
PGG are just depicting reality. And this is the reality.
hehehe… well, in reality, driving full tilt into trees is usually going to ruin your car, your day, and pretty much everything except the trees.
EDIT : EXCEPT… diseased trees Those you can mow down without even scuffing the wax
Its 29th of mar here and I own the dlc, and all it says it on 29th, when can I play the expantion?
Haven’t seen the time for the final download but guessing by today’s download being 18:00UTC I’d say probably then ? So, maybe in about 19 hours ?
