FH3 - tool for disabled gamers

Hello! I have no idea where to send this message, but I’ll try here.
I’m Krzysztof, a disabled gamer. Due to my illness (muscle atrophy), I’m not able to play with keyboard nor gamepad. Yes, I’m playing racing games with mouse. It’s possible thanks to Alt Controller, an open source app created by Tim Brogden
http://altcontroller.net/
It’s a fantastic tool, that emulates keystrokes. You can create custom regions over game’s window and make them press keys when mouse pointer is inside them or clicks them. All what is required to make it work is borderless mode and always visible pointer (not attached with camera and most preferably system default pointer).
Could you consider such changes to let me and other disabled gamers play the game?

No reply, okey… lol

Sorry, double post. How to delete it?

I can’t speak to any specific accessibility API’s that Forza Horizon 3 may support just yet, but I can assure you that Playground Games and Turn 10 both share the goal of making our games more accessible to more gamers.

Playground Games actually has a very close working relationship with SpecialEffect (and in fact has helped them with recent fundraising events, in addition to technical consultations related to accessibility in games).

That’s really good news  Thank you! I’ll consider buying the game if I’ll be able to play! Waiting for news about potential demo

So last week, I passed your question along to Playground and they checked. Good news is altcontroller just works with Forza Horizon 3, “out of the box” so to speak.

When i couldn’t use my left hand I bought some USB foot pedals. You can get them off ebay and they work just like keyboard keys, you can program them and then use your feet instead of, or as well as your hands. Another thing you can look at is the various “air mouse” apps on android and ios. They pair with your pc, and you can put a glove on, put the phone inside it and just wave your hand around to control games etc.
Just thought i’d drop those in here in case anyone else can benefit from them. While i was recovering from my accident they kept me sane.

I’m able to use literally only mouse or gaze steering (but that’s way too expensive) due to muscles’ strenght  I can play some racing games (The Crew, NFS The Run etc), hope FH3 as well

That’s such a great news! Thank you so much, guys!

Really pleased to hear that you’ll be able to play FH3.
Happy racing to all.

From patch notes

  • Disable mouse move detection while driving

Does it mean I’ll not be able to play?

Well, after demo release, I can finally say that game runs amazingly well on my pc, bravo! Great optimalization.
However, sad news is that despite guarantees here, FH3 doesn’t work with Alt Controller. I’m not able to play the game, only with Windows on-screen keyboard, which is torture.

Lol, that’s kinda funny. And sad.
Like it was avalible for disabled persons but then they like: nah, they should not be able to play it, we’re gonna take this opportunity from the game for no reason.
Bravo, Turn10, it is so microsoftish…

So good news, it works. My Einstein friend found a workaround. Gotta set the game to cursors steering AND AltController to numpad cursors (sic!). Hard to understand why, but it works!

You shouldnt write this, they will disable this feature in next update.
Just kidding, but who knows. Like, they kinda knew that mouse should be working when driving, then disabled it for no reason.

Hi Asamur my name is Mike we’ve talked on youtube about AltController and The Crew. I hope you’re gonna see this. How do you set AltController to numpad cursors? I’m gonna give Forza 3 a try!

Excellent! I’m glad you finally get to play. Happy motoring!

they disabled it because it was causing performance issues for everyone else.
