Long-time member here. But I’m really struggling getting this game to feel right with my T300rs…
I’ve had decent success on the controller in FM7, although more twitchy than past games, it’s drive-able. I have my T300 settings pretty much dialed on Assetto and rFactor for drifting (about 4 years of experience with various wheels, so I know what feels accurate to me) and they are almost identical from game to game where the difference in feel is mostly dictated by the tire compound in each game.
Even though my wheel allows for 1080 degrees, I am running 900 in my Thrustmaster device settings and 100% “steering sensitivity” in-game.
There’s a point in mid-drift, if the car reaches full-lock in either direction, my wheel get’s hung up or stuck for a slight second, FFB feels like it drops out for a second and the car loses ALL forward momentum. It feels as if I had a handbrake for the front wheels and it’s at 80% lock up. I lose speed at an incredible rate, the car will NOT catch grip in the front and reduce slip angle and it’s extremely frustrating when trying to tandem with people.
I realize FM7’s tire compound (we use sport) has very little side-bite and my friends and I have done everything to tune around it. While my friends with the Logitech wheels do not notice this problem at all… I have tried everything I can think of to negate this including: running identical setups and settings with people who have G27, G29, G920, logical tuning setups on the car, low caster, high caster, toe in, toe out, diff settings, FFB settings, even just finding a driving technique that minimizes this but it’s not working. I understand when you’re drifting, you are not always going to be or supposed to be at full-lock and that in a real car with certain ackerman it can actually have a binding effect but with this wheel on this game, the threshold between where it’s not doing it and where it breaks is a very fine line. I can’t replicate this in any of my other racing/drifting games but from process of elimination I can only narrow it down to a communication error between FM7 and the T300.
If anyone out there can help me sort this out or narrow it down to a flaw with the game, I would be extremely thankful!
I love this game but this issue has made this game unplayable for me.
Read everything underneath every option and you’ll realize that the reason people’s ffb settings are all wrong are because the settings do not make sense. For example, the “front handbrake” effect during understeer where the wheel gets too light is due to the “force feedback understeer” setting. It is similar to the extra understeer effect setting in Assetto Corsa that most users turn off. However, to disable it, you have to turn the slider all the way to 100%, as it represents the force ratio when understeering, which is really dumb imo.
I highly recommend reading up on the documentation to get your t300 dialed in. I aimed for pure pneumatic trail align torque with no distracting extras.
My settings:
Steering Linearity: 50
Vibration Scale: 0 (vibration feels really artificial)
Force Feedback Scale: 50 (personal preference, but 50 is my personal setting)
Center Spring Scale: 0 (needs further testing, but at 0 everything feels fine)
Wheel Damper Scale: 0 (personal preference, I prefer a completely un-dampened steering rack)
Force Feedback Understeer: 100 (IMPORTANT, if this is not at 100 catching slides will be more difficult)
Force Feedback Minimum Force: 50 (setting name is misleading, this is equivalent to FFB Gamma in Assetto Corsa. 50 is equal to linear setting, I’d personally leave it where it is. Look up “Gamma Curve” for pictures of how the wheel forces are transformed by this setting)
Steering Sensitivity: 50 (leave it at 50, which uses the full rotation of your wheel (1080 degrees or 900 degrees). If you want to reduce the steering rotation degrees of your wheel to match a car’s real life steering lock, reduce this setting, never go above 50 as this just reduces your car’s max steering lock)
I play with these settings and adjust Steering Sensitivity depending on the car I am driving, but most cars I leave it at 50. If there is one thing Playground games needs to do, its that they need to make the understeer setting 100 by default. Lemme know what you guys think.
Hello, I am new to Xbox, the game, and to Thrustmasters, thank you for your detail, as I’ve found it’s impossible to play FH4 with wheel, while I enjoyed quite a lot in FM7… I guess I should try your setup…
