Festival Playlist events and rewards July 18-25 (Summer S36)

I spent more time on this tune than anything else this week, I really like it too

As much as I hate being forced to upgrade cars for seasonal PR stunts, I always get a kick out of just how terrible my attempts are when compared to tuners who actually know what they’re doing. I usually go with the “hehe horsepower go brrrrrrt” approach, and the results are often undriveable. This time I threw a random engine upgrade and a few other things onto the Skyline, only I didn’t even think about giving it better tires or brakes, so I could barely keep it on the road in the speed zone.

Me: “Okay, the HW drift zone was annoying but doable in the stock RX-7, let’s see what’s on RA. All right, a speed zone in a B Alpine, I think that car is near the top of B-class to start so this should be…wait, they mean the 1973 one. Yeah no.”

(Granted I got within 3 MPH stock, so maybe with the perfect line and run-up you could squeak it out, but I don’t have the time for that this week.)

stock options, series 35 “Horizon Cars & Coffee”, week 1 summer/wet season

[loose basis for approach; cheapest car that’ll do the stunts, least-driven car for races]

forzathon weekly “Real Open Sports” – Honda S2000 [‘09]

trial “Pista de Résistance” – Mégane R26.R (good team; beat 5 robots then 3)

eventlab “Mink Creek Circuit” – VW Golf '03 (decent design)

eventlab “Jumbo Jangle Juggernaut” – N Vision 74 '22 (nice big circuit)

eventlab “Jungle Rally Circuit” – No.14 Ford Fiesta (liked this one, good stuff)

speed trap “Coast View” – Nissan GT-R ’97 (fairly easy; 155.93mph

speed zone “Punta Allen” – Nissan GT-R ’97 (ta @WhiteBurrito42 - fairly easy; 123.69mph)

championship “Cosworth a Try” – Corvette ‘60 (easy wins)

championship “Up To Grade” – BMW M4 '14 (easy wins)

treasure hunt “Let’s Bounce” – HSV Gen-F GTS (3 Kangaroo skills in an Aussie muscle car)

RA speed zone “Tierras Verdes” – Alpine A110 ‘73 (quite hard; 63.38mph)

RA championship “Turning Up the Heat” – Honda Civic '07 (easy wins)

HW drift zone “Water’s Edge” – RX-7 Spirit R (surprisingly tricky but not too hard; 145,441)

HW championship “That’s the Spirit” – Ferrari Enzo (easy or very easy wins)

Words to live by, stock or not :+1:

The speed zone can be completed stock. Run up from the plane at the end of the festival strip, cut across the dirt and cut the corners through the zone. The speed traps are another thing. One target is 3mph over what tuning says the car’s top speed.

I’ve just finished the playlist but did intend to go back for the speed zone, I didn’t try it at all. Thanks for the tip!

Meanwhile, at the Cars & Coffee festival…

“What do you mean I can’t pay with Kudos?….WORTHLESS?! But I’ve got thousands of them!!” :joy:

And as previously predicted…

inspiration from @WhiteBurrito42 to have another go

“Coast View” speed trap is actually pretty easy - don’t know why I didn’t see the route yesterday - from the east, start at the “Ruta Norte” race location, aim to be on the tarmac surface as much as possible, avoid jumps and heavier breakables

the other one is above the car’s top speed, as noted before, and I really can’t see a way of making gravity work, and it’s not Hot Wheels so there’s nothing else to give the car a push (Leia is sadly no longer with us [Empire Strikes Back reference, could also refer to Buck in ODST])

Found I didn’t have a design for the weekly #Forzathon Challenge car, so put this together for the Honda S2000 CR for anyone interested. As always, many thanks to anyone who decides to check it out; it’s very much appreciated. Enjoy!

I was in a rush to get the playlist done the day before going on vacation, so when I saw the PR stunt requirements, I jumped straight to upgrading without even bothering with attempting them stock. Cool to know that one or two of them were actually possible.

Speaking of, because I’m on vacation this week I set up Steam Link on my little Surface Pro to see if I could check off the Encore achievement in my Steam copy of FH4. I was going to come up one day short for FH5’s dailies, so while I was at it I figured I’d complete the only one I needed. (I had to use third-party software to add my MS Store copy of FH5 as a non-Steam game because of the dumb way that store obfuscates its installs.) Anyways, I knew that most of the tasks are simple enough even with the massive streaming lag I expected…so of course what do I get dealt but completing a Tour. What followed could not even charitably be called “driving,” but was instead an absolute nightmare of overcompensating, spinning out, and being worse than useless. I compounded it several times over by not paying attention to the race type when selecting my car, so I wound up with an unmanageable RWD Pagani on a cross-country Tour. I managed to score a whopping 100 points, only because a single AI took pity on me and threw itself off a cliff.

So yeah, I want to sincerely apologize to anyone who had the extreme misfortune of being stuck with me during that session. Despite what it looked like I was neither drunk nor otherwise impaired, because I would have been driving much better if I was. But hey, I got that single point.

Really enjoyed the 3 eventlabs this week. Well done to the creators!

Was a bit “inspired” by your approach here with the stock S2000 I had for the weekly Forzathon challenge, so when I got to: “Earn 3 Ultimate Drift skills”, my “how hard can it be” strategy turned out to be pretty comical to say the least, given my drifting skills.
Decided to just throw in the R-I6, RWD, drift tires (bc of course, right?) & head to the open tarmac of EL Island.
It went a bit like this:
•Burnout
•Great Burnout
•Drift
•Drift
•Great Drift
•Awesome 180 :man_facepalming:t2:
•Drift
•Drift
•E-Drift
•Great E-Drift
•Burnout
•Great 180
Well, you get the idea :joy: & this went on way longer than I’d like to admit. What I did discover, however, once I finally got a handle on the thing, was how surprisingly little throttle input & slide I actually needed to achieve the skills.

good one for ultimates; go up to the volcano, at the jump location on the west side, virtually any car should work, turn off all assists, drive forward down the slope, do a bit of turning should get at least one ultimate without really trying at all

also works well for doing the odd weekly task where gravity gets a car over its top speed without having to upgrade

Thanks. I’m familiar with some of the easier solutions, but thought it might be a nice challenge to try it with the more traditional approach. It was at least good for a laugh

FYI, your Alpine tune doesn’t meet the class restriction for the RA speed zone.

sometimes tunes need to be installed twice for whatever reason; could it be that?

Perhaps… when I downloaded it, it was a B class.

I don’t think anyone knows what causes that issue, randomly some tunes don’t install properly sometimes unless they’re installed a second time “over the top” of the first one

another very odd thing with tuning that could be related but I don’t think so is when some cars vary in PI by 1 point; two of the same car can show different PI even when “reset to defaults” is done more than once (one of the Grand Cherokees is 750 or 751, something like that), and the garage PI might also differ by 1 from the PI shown at the top of the screen

again, little things that just take shine off the game
