Thanks.

Nice to see the Gauntlet in the Monster Dash seasonal championship. Wish we got these finale races more often and in the Trial as well.

Always loved them in the FH4 Trials even though they were generally the third race, but you had to complete all 3 races regardless, so I guess it didn’t really matter.

WOW! So quick! :+1: Thanks!

Long post coming here but I hope it’s informative for everybody planning on doing the Gauntlet event…

I’ve split them up based on what I personally think of them, think of them as tiers.

S1 Rally Monsters (The Gauntlet)

#2 Audi S1 (UnworthyPleb) - 17:53.340
Hoonigan Escort RS1800 (BedlamBorealis) - 18:03.994
Ford Puma FE (UnworthyPleb) - 18:04.234

#2 Audi S1 (Rocklxd) - 18:06.762
MG Metro 6R4 (UnworthyPleb) - 18:09.317

911 FE (KapienPL) - 18:14.821
M-Sport Fiesta RS (UnworthyPleb) - 18:22.829
911 Rallye (Mustuff124) - 18:23.838

Forsberg SafariZ (PTW AusaX) - 18:31.421
Opel Manta (DzevoX ‘Final’) - 18:33.222
Exocet FE (UnworthyPleb) - 18:44.868

#4 Ford Focus (ESV Aventra) - 18:55.587

It was bittersweet in a sense, anyone who’s been around on the forum for some time may remember this I did not far off 2 years ago…

S1 Class Gauntlet - The tale of a 1,460 mile, 40 off-meta car journey (1679 w/ 46 cars now I guess) - Forza Horizon 5 / FH5 Discussion - Official Forza Community Forums

I put everything into getting the Saleen S1 under the 18 minute mark back then, so when I knew Pleb’s Audi was going to take it off it was a strange feeling, but I made sure to preserve it before I gave the Audi a proper go…

But anyway the cars themselves…

I tried Rock’s Audi given that we all received that message with the build for it not long ago, good car but no front aero makes it understeer a lot, Pleb’s is the tune to use for that, excellent car + tune for S1 Dirt full stop.

The Puma FE is what I’d recommend to anyone who just wants an easy to drive car/tune but even just in general a great choice, easily the most comfortable run I did and still very quick.

Bedlam’s Escort is a lot of fun and he’s a former forum member here, does require quite a bit of driving to get it to fully come together though.

The MG is not super difficult but not a breeze to drive either, honestly I like it personally but not worth it when it doesn’t have the pace to make up for it, Puma as mentioned above went faster + was much more stable.

Everything from the 911 FE to the Manta was :man_shrugging: just fine, 911 FE as solid as it always is.

Even though it looks like it sucks the Exocet FE actually did a really good time considering it can’t even get up to 170mph anywhere throughout the entire course.

And the Focus :man_facepalming: knew something had to be wrong as that’s a great player who’s tune I chose, only found out when I looked at the upgrades myself, no front or rear aero available to install and the stock rear wing is adjustable but gives a pathetic amount of downforce even at max, just 92lbs which any tuner will know is absurdly low in any class, so it’s handling when upgraded to 900PI is diabolical, keep that in A class where it belongs.

Quite a few cars I left out for various reasons, mostly either needing clearly silly builds to reach 900PI or the fact that they can’t get there at all.

Only one I’ll mention is the Hoonigan RS200 who’s potential pace is already on the leaderboard to see hence why I didn’t test it, simply no need to, it’s sat just 0.341 off the WR with ShaggyScroll driving it, I’ve got my own personal little challenge/test for that car planned anyway.

Hopefully this helps at least some people out, anything that gives me incentive to get back on the Gauntlet is always :+1: from me, I’m hoping to set a new PB in A class thanks to this test as well over this weekend.

I see the trial is a B class Audi Quattro starting at Hilltop Descent, so I worked on that this week. Rather than sharing a downloadable tune, i’ll share an open tune and build here. Ill talk about building so this will probably get long. If thats not of interest, just ignore all this.

Went to rivals and saw the top time in this car was a cheater with a 2:09.828 … some kind of speed/acceleration cheat. At the beginning and final straight it was clear what was going on. The best legitimate times were in the 2:12s. I managed a legit 2:09.763 in testing (beat the cheater) for a new top time in the car, so my car is pretty good.

Theres some going through the grass on ideal runs. Its about 1000 times easier to use ABS in bumpy, offroad braking zones. I suggest using ABS for this. Less finesse required. I never use ABS, but did here to make sure I beat that illegitimate time. I was about as fast without ABS, but much harder to get it right every time.

First the tune settings, then the build. Theres a lot of greyed out tuning options so heres the 3 tabs that are adjustable:

Here’s how to build it:

Two tire options, stocks or drags. Need to take some sweepers flat out … so went with stocks.

Then you can immediately add max rear tire width, max rear track width, and front and rear race antiroll bars.

These street races are mostly high speed … stick with stock weight reduction.

Transmissions add a lot of PI, so if youre using MC, stick with the stock transmission. If you use auto, you may want to spend the PI.

For springs, I had wanted to use the rally suspension to help when leaving the road (and because its a rally car) … but testing showed that sport springs were better for street races. Go with sport springs.

Then I started on the engine. Stock engine the only engine for B class. Added parts to maximize power and torque so I avoided the exhaust upgrade. And since I tested a lot, I came to the conclusion that for this specific car and class, the intercooler and oil upgrades werent ideal.

So with the build so far, i was able to add the following engine upgrades:

Race turbo with anti lag, race engine block, race fuel system, race pistons, race ignition, race valves, street intake.

We already had:

Max rear tire width, max rear track width, sport springs, race front and rear ARBs.

Now close to finishing, try to lose weight and choose the aero and appearance options you want. Ended up adding the following:

The 1st street front bumper option, 16 inch rear rims, sport driveline, and the rally differential.

So thats the build for stock rims and this particular look. But you can tweak the build. For the rivals car I used, i did a few things different:

Heaviest rims, add sport intercooler to the same engine upgrades, 17 inch rear rims (instead of 16s), street driveline (instead of sport), stock front bumper (instead of first street), street rear wing (instead of stock).

A few things … the street rear wing performs very close to stock, cost a fraction of a PI more. Having rear rims that are significantly bigger than fronts can impair handling, but 15 and 17 worked good here. The larger rear rims help acceleration and speed (and saves a little PI), and these street races favor that.

And if you are building it to use with an automatic transmission, you may need to use an upgraded transmission and/or upgraded clutch. If so, you end up with less power. Try to get all the power you can, so continue to stay away from the race exhaust upgrade.

And lastly, as you change the build, you may slightly change the handling characteristics. All you probably need to tweak is the rear antiroll bar. If you are slightly oversteering in the flat out sweepers, decrease it. If you are a little tight in those, increase it. Larger rear rims made me want to oversteer a little more. Instead of 1/12 … i went to 1/4. If you change things and get all the way down to 1/1 and are still oversteering, start increasing the front ARB … 4/1, for example.

Btw, used this car for the previous week’s B class Homologation Heroes championship (as i type this, technically still this week’s) … it crushed for that too. Similar in performance to my Suburu 22b.

The reason i just shared an open build and tune instead of just a downloadable share is because … if someone did that for me years ago, it wouldnt have taken me years to figure out how to ideally build and tune. You can apply stuff like this to other cars.

I’ve spent this week on Gauntlet (doing the post further up gave me the bug again for the track) so I’ve completely forgotten the Audi lol, gave it 4-5 runs with various but foundationally similar builds just now and this was my best one…

I ended up using the Forza rear aero despite this being a rare instance of it adding PI, really helped stabilise the back end and bizarrely it gives a higher top speed :man_shrugging:

I used the sport transmission, race costs too much PI for the shift penalty reduction I think and 4th gear on stock is terrible in auto, you can set FD with the sport one so that it’s possible to hold a gear through certain corners.

Otherwise not too far from yours build wise, I won’t share it though, yours is great for anyone to take (not directly steal, please nobody do that) as a base and tweak it around whatever shifting they use, I won’t be using mine until at least Sunday anyway.

Great time by the way :+1: just saw that cheated time you’re referring to, ugh…the cheated time just ahead of AnonyMe’s WR on the track is a player I kind of know of and their club too, has some good players in it and I’ve seen that guy’s tunes quite a few times when I’ve been browsing, somehow these times are there in plain sight and nothing is done about them, AnonyMe’s time is the only genuine one in the top 9.

I didnt try the race Forza spoiler on this one, but I have gotten the impression that in some cars, the race Forza aero set at minimum downforce seems to offer less downforce than the stock spoiler. Like the stock option falls somewhere in the middle of the race spoiler’s range. I dont know if thats true, but some cars can hit a higher top speed with, so its something to look out for.

Great auto time in that. I scrolled down past 2:12 on the leaderboard and saw some names I recognized using the MC. I think when this trial was done before, a lot of people were using a more general road tune than one optimized for these trial races. I also scrolled through all the available B class tunes without using keywords and didnt see many street race kind of tunes. I only saw 2 that were close, Mustuff (sp? My bad) and Greeted Dust (sp? My bad.). Better than all the rest but, for this trial, they looked slightly underpowered to me though.

Another benefit that sport transmission gives is not topping about a few seconds before the finish like the stock transmission does. I tested the sport one too but for an MC user, the build with the stock one had a few car lengths in it before it started banging on the redline. Hilltop has about the longest straight so it doesn’t come into play much, and not in the trial’s 2nd race, so I went with the stock one for the MC build.

Oh yeah, another kinda weird thing with the Quattro. I tested using street cams too, looking for more power and a higher redline for the last few meters. But unlike most cars, using the street cams resulted in the build not having much more horsepower (thinlk it might’ve actually been less), and mostly just offering less torque. Cam upgrades are usually more of a balance increasing horsepower and reducing torque. Finshing times pretty similar thought. I did 2:10.080 with a street cams build. It lost ground at the beginning of straights.

sounds about right, they take months to do little things like that (if they do them at all)

Why am I not surprised? Always a bug somewhere with these things

I did complete it today in the 2008 Mitsubishi Evo X GSR so at least I can confirm that car works

Trial went pretty good. My Quattro gapped everything before the first turn on both races. It rained in both and I didnt flirt with any checkpoints, just cruising. Practice helps.

On The Gaunlet, I was making scared Richard Hammond noises the whole race. Credit to TGM for being dedicated and mastering that frightfest. I was too scared to push it very hard. Used the 959 Rally and got to the end in about 19:30, then waited a couple minutes to let the 2 that didnt quit finish.

And … the Dark Horse didnt qualify for the Rally speed trap.

I did like the event labs. There was a hard to find Hoonigan Focus as a reward in one. And a hard to find Exteme E in the shop.

Anyone having intermittent issues with steering and suspension? In wet races my cars tend to flick out at front and swerve from side to side like a drunk is driving. In dry races i seem to not be able to turn corners like i used to. Its been happening last 2 weeks and the tunes are not the problem, they are from top tuners. Mainly Winter and Spring…im using xbox controller but im pretty sure its not that.
