I would rather have fast travel but only to player houses and festivals. Kind of a middle ground between no fast travel and full fast travel to any point of the map. That way the player is still incentivized to drive from point A to B but its not gonna be like a crazy long drive but a more reasonable one.
Also maybe reward the player with xp for traveling. Every X amount of miles/km driven. Maybe attach some achievements around it.
The idea is to make the player enggage in the open world online lobbies more rather than how it is now in FH5 when you drive around the map you see often players just sititng in a menu pause.
Might also help lobbies feel slightly less unpopulated. Our monkey brains want it now and instantly i think that’d be a good way of not falling into the mental habbit of mindlessly teleporting from one place to another just because we cant be bothered.
I think there is a charm in not having full fast travel. After all we’re playing an open world game. We should be incentivized to enggaged more in it rather than be stuck in between loading screens and various menu options
the first thing i do after the opening intro releases me is find all the fast travel requirements while driving every inch of road. so i’m all for fast travel everywhere.
I don’t think anyone stopping you or anyone else for that matter from using or not using the fast travel option.
Suggesting to change what we have now to what you prefer or think is better won’t work for me and I hope that will never happen.
Its the same mentality about having a progression and making our own progression instead. You could technically drive in a C class car and progress through different car classes. But you wouldnt, would you? The game doesn’t make you to. I think its one thing to have fast travel to everywhere and a whole other deal if you’re only able to fast travel to festivals and player houses. Its more linear and forces the player to enggage in a different way rather than sticking his face into menu options and jump between login screens.
Embody the open world experience considering its strong enough. Instead we’re spending time in menus and fast travelling to complete a championship because thats how our short attention span reacts to it.
I know it sounds a bit controversial to some. But to my mind having elements in the game that are more linearly focused would be a good thing. In a similar matter older horizon games used the compromise to have some reasonable car progressions without detaching the player and giving him a sense to move forward.
Thats why i think a compromised fast travel feature would work. In the sense you could do whatever you want with the current system. But its a totally different deal when the game intentioinally makes you travel and enggage in the open world.
I know its really a small thing and not very significant in the grand scheme of things. But to me its a decision thats more about what made racing games great in the past. There is a charm to some of the old features and the way they worked.
I’ve put hundreds of hours into FH5 and I play every single week to at least get the new seasonal cars. If they prevented me from fast traveling anywhere I want, I’d uninstall the game.
I’ve seen every inch of the map at this point. I’ve driven every road. I have the achievement to prove it. All that forcing me to drive between events would do is waste my time.
