Fanatec Shifter not working in H-pattern

Spent a little time in the sim this morning on the new motorsport and it is great! So far I am really liking the game with the exception of one thing… Paddle shift or automatic only?! I tried to recalibrate my peripherals several times, restarted the game several times, restarted the system several times. From what I have heard it seems it is not just Fanatec gear, but rather no H-pattern shifters are working. Any word on a fix, work around, or settings that can be altered to get the full potential out of the gaming experience? Seems like such a waste to have so much new detail and just skip over this aspect.

What system are you playing on? I’m on PC and my Fanatec shifter is working perfectly fine had zero issues with it! have you gone to the input tab in settings and made a wheel profile and made sure Reverse, gears 1-7 are assigned?

XBOX series X. I went in to assign the gears and it is not present in any of the menus. Might not be supported yet?

Can confirm it is not supported yet unfortunately. It’s been “reported” in the Bugs section and the Request section on the forums. In the meantime, I use it in sequential mode and with the clutch, not as fun as the H-pattern but better than the paddles!

This is very odd… the Fanatec Shifter on XSX connected via the CSL Elite Wheel works just fine for me. I turned on the Wheelbase before starting the game itself. Couldn‘t test 7th gear but the others work just fine out of the box including neutral… Implementation of manual shifting with clutch however ingame is not the best.

I can tell you it works. Last night it worked awsome. Today it doesn’t work. I’d say the game is broken. I’ve restarted everything and nothing works today.

Tried again last night after restarting everything and it works great. Same this morning. Whatever was going on seems to be good now.

That’s very odd! I have tried starting things in different orders (wheel, xbox, game) and I can’t get it to work in H-pattern mode in this game. Works just fine with Dirt Rally 2.

Once detected, is there a menu to assign the gears that will appear in the options?

Have you tried updating the wheel firmware by plugging it into your computer and checking fanatec wheel software? Maybe that helps like with graphic cards

My Fanatec Shifter works perfectly on Xbox Series X but my Handbrake doesn’t can’t bind it. Was working fine on FM7.

Sucess! I works now.

Plugged on pc and checked for the firmware but it was already up to date. Tried again in game, no luck. I tried reverting to the default button layout for the steering and that worked! I then switched back to my custom layout and it stills work.

FYI my handbrake worked fine when my shifter wasn’t working. I need to test the handbrake now that the shifter is working!

Have you found that the gears crunch when using paddles and clutch?

I was using the clubsport shifter in sequential mode with clutch rather than the paddles, so it was slower than paddles. Only had problem in one race with the Porsche Leichtbau but I think it was exacerbated by a few misshifs (too quick) early on that damaged the clutch. I changed to manual without clutch before the end on the race and it was really really slow to shift, worse than any other car (including the Chrysler Valiant Charger I would have expected to be slow to shift when stock, but it was just fine in manual with clutch).

I’ve had the occasional mishifts here and there and most of the time I think it is because I’m moving the shifter before the clutch pedal is pushed all the way in. But I’m not shifting like a mad man either…

One setting that might alleviate your shift issues is to raise the clutch axis deadzone (so you’d be fully clutched at 50% travel for example).

In-game, definitely go for the clutch upgrade when available

Hey buddy,
What wheel buttons did you reset? I mean in game or on the wheel via PC. This is my first sim setup. I have a DD1 Podium base with a clubsport wheel, v3 pedals, clubsport shifter, and handbrake. The shifter works fine in sequential mode. I can used the clutch and sequential shifter. That is horrible. I updated the driver to the new 451 driver. I unplugged all the RJ connectors, reset Xbox, reset all sim gear. I have calibrated shifter. The proper gear shows up on the wheel when I shift but it will not work in game. It is driving me absolutely crazy that I cannot get it figured out.

The steering button layout in-game. I had made a custom layout when first starting the game.

After reverting back to default and launching a race, the game recognized the shifter. I was able to go back to my custon layout afterward and it still worked.

Another thing I remember trying at some point, but not sure it if was at the same time I reverted the controls to default, was mapping the shifter to a function. I don’t think the gears were recognized as a button (if not in sequential mode) but maybe it somehow made the game recognize the shifter.

Thank you for the reply. I will try to map it to a function and see if that works. It’s crazy to me due to the fact that the sequential works but the h-pattern doesn’t. I have it in the h-pattern port. But the paddles and the sequential both can work at the same time. I’m guessing the sequential side of the shifter is mapped the same way as the paddles shifters. So it makes sense to map the the h-pattern.
