Isn’t the finish line in the eliminator supposed to be towards the center of the ring every time you start a head-to-head? It used to be that way but then after some patch, it became impossible to predict. Especially as the game comes towards the ending phase the finish line can appear just 800 meters to the left while I’m already driving towards the center at full speed and my opponent will get an easy win just because they happened to be facing that way. This wouldn’t be as much of a problem if you at least showed where the finish line was immediately after starting the head-to-head instead of doing a 4-second unskippable animation. Or even better, just have the finish line that’s going to be chosen once you start a head-to-head be on the map all the time. So the map will always show the position of the finish line that would be picked if you were to start in the location you’re in right then. The way this mode works out right now you’re mostly depending on luck more than anything. Even if you were in a higher level car than your opponent they can just easily defeat you if they just randomly happen to be facing the right way.
If I’m wrong and there IS a way to reliably predict where the finish line will be please do tell.
I wouldn’t mind unpredictability if it challenged both players in a head-to-head. This is just luck, if two people face different ways when a race starts the one who’s closer to the finish line is going to win unless there’s a 3+ level gap or they crash
So you want the finish to be towards the center, but what would happen if someone challenge you in the center of the map? And if the finish line would be predictable wouldn’t everyone just sit at the border of the zone waiting for others to approach from the center to secure the win?
In fact when you get a fast car, it is a good tactic to sit at the edge and wait for someone to foolishly drive towards you. You can then accelerate directly at them, challenge them, ghost through them and they are left floundering while you race off to win.
I’m usually sitting on the border too when in fast car. But still, sometimes the finish will pop near the border even when starting a H2H on the border of the zone. Specially in the last circle I saw it many times.
The Eliminator is mostly a rng mode. It mostly depends on luck what car you’re going to get from a drop, where the finish line spawns, what car does your challenger have etc.
It mostly boils down to luck (and just a little bit of skill). Once you embrace the randomness of it, it becomes a lot more fun
I’ve played over 100 rounds of Eliminator and never won once.
I don’t find it that fun when it feels unbalanced.
I dont expect to win every time… but 0-100 is kinda ridiculous… every game I get to end, Im 7 miles away and everyone else is within 1-2 miles it seems.
every time…
ohh then there is the cheaters with flying cars in every session.
I don’t play FH5 any more but I’ve played a lot of Eliminator in FH4 and am still playing it regularly. My current stats are 1,928 games played, 691 final races completed, 291 wins.
In FH4 I always start at the same place where I know there are often several car drops. Sometimes there are none, so I go looking in other places where I know there will probably be some. Usually I get a level 2-3 car quickly. Sometimes, rarely, a level 5 car. Level 7+ car drops sometimes occur but are extremely rare. To win the round you ideally want at least a level 6, but 7-8 or better ideally. So you can assume you will need to win a few head-to-heads. You want to do this as early as possible, before more people have upgraded to faster cars.
Always be looking at your mini-map. Others will be looking to challenge you; don’t fear this, don’t waste precious time running away if you can beat them. If they are in a much faster car and it’s early in the round, by all means try to avoid them. If it’s late in the round and you’re still in a slow car though, you have nothing to lose by challenging them because you aren’t going to win the round in the slow car, but you might win the head-to-head if you don’t make any mistakes. The person in the fast car can be complacent because they assume it will be an easy win.
The only time I drive to the edge of the area and sit there invisible on the mini-map is late in the round and only if I have a fast enough car to win. Otherwise I drive around checking out opponents, look at what they are driving; can I beat them with what I have? If yes, challenge them, if not move on and look for a weaker opponent. Late in the round, people can be caught napping because the head-to-heads are very short at that point. Drive around the outer edge of the circle looking for someone coming the wrong way, drive towards them, challenge, by the time they turn around you’re halfway to the finish and they’re left kicking themselves.
for sure, if all you want to do is win, there are some really lame, but successfull ways to do so if you want
get lucky with a high drop, then camp and hide out till the final
do what was said below, sit on the edge pretty much with any car, and then challenge someone heading towards you.
camp out near a purple smoke, and wait for someone to come to you. this works almost everytime for me, because people are drawn to ANY smoke ANY where in the middle of the circle
i recommend dont playing this way, as youll just frustrate you if you lose. its just a mode based on skill and alot of luck, just have fun
You need to play enough to know all the final race end points and the terrain a bit and how to get there fast. Then You need lucky car drop - I can win 50/50 if i get level 6/7 car at the beginning. Then when the final circle shrinks, look where it shrank the most - that direction 9 out of 10 will be the finish. Simple ;)))))
I once had one that was around 125m lol, challenged them as they were just sat there in a level 10 on the Volcan sprint section of the mountain and the finish line was just literally a few seconds behind where I’d come from.
There is an exploit I got eliminated by once or twice - on the mountain near the top, there is a point where You can challenge someone and the finish will be at Your exact position… RIDICULOUS… !
BTW in my opinion the shortest race should be at least 1,5-2km long - “races” of 500-600m are stupid, especially with stutter on PC at H2H.
yesh, ive had this too. its crazy fun when you win, but so dumb when you lose.
i guess its theres no real solution for the designers, cause they cant really put a finish line on one of those steep slopes in the trees near the edge of the circle. that’d be frustrating af. so they need to keep it somwehere on the hill, and that is sometimes 500m from where you start
I won on my second try and had a few near misses where I cost myself. I did it in a mid tier car just had an idea where the finish and longest tarmac road might be and tore past everyone at the start
