Having a large UI element centered on the screen that blocks the view in a “regular” circuit race is not an issue. All the cars start from a stand still, they are in the same class and they can’t leave the circuit.
In The Eliminator, challenges rarely start from a stand still. In the worst cases you are driving REALLY fast. Having an opaque UI element that blocks the view is a genuine pain. I’ve hit so many trees, houses, rocks or other players because of the 8 seconds it takes the “versus and Go!” UI to leave the screen.
Example: at 200kph, in these 8 seconds you cover 444 meters.
I strongly agree. In The Eliminator, when every tree counts, having your view blocked even momentarily by an obstructive game UI can be unnecessarily game-ending.
Ok, I stick up for a lot in the Eliminator that others hate on.
But this. This game design decision though is one of the silliest things I have ever seen. How, How, How could someone in dev, pre-prod, prod, testing, etc not pick up on this. I totally agree that simply moving the text, shrinking it by a bit and having it basically anywhere else on screen would be such a huge help!
I also think it would help newer players even more. Sure CP who has 8 trillion rounds played can drive that bit eyes closed but a new player on their first few rounds this can devestate.
