I have this issue and it’s rather unfair when you race at higher difficulties. In my game the drivatars/AI are not pitting at all. I race at Unbeatable and it’s impossible to stay competitive. I have to turn off simulation damage which is really anoying and immersion-breaking. This is happening on every race not just endurance, I barelly managed to win the Arial Atom showcase at Catalunia and had almost ran out of fuel at the end. Also that is 10% less payout which in endurance races is a lot of money. Btw I’m not sure about all drivatar difficulties, since I race mostly on Unbeatable but it also happened on Pro during the Le Mans endurance. This needs to be fixed soon as it ruins a key aspect of endurance racing.
Yes, it’s a bug. Work around it by removing all mods first before the race and set the option to simulation damage before adding the mods again.
Sometimes the game resets these options and if you use mods like the perfectionist mod you dont see it when the game does this.
I don’t think that worked. I even switched between cosmetic and simulation a few times and it didn’t fixed it. They still don’t pit.
Okay they did pit eventually but 5 laps after me but still they pit. Thanks for the suggestion.
I have run numerous fifty lap races on pro difficulty. Depending on the competitive level of your car things do get quite marginal. However the drivatars always pit at some point and they seem to spend longer in the pit than you do. I had one race at Sebring where I had to pit and lost the lead. Ten laps later it evened itself out again as the lead drivatar pitted and i went back into the lead for the last ten laps. I finished running on fumes. You have to work out a race strategy as you go. Bear in mind different cars seem to give different fuel consumption.
Race strategy doesn’t help if the lead drivatars don’t pit even once, as I have witnessed in the Spa 100 (Pro difficulty)
I’ve run a considerable amount of 50 lappers on Indianapolis, Daytona and Road Atlanta of late. First on Expert, then on Pro, and every time AI/Drivatars have pitted, at some stage, or another.
Many really thirsty beast pit within the first 10 laps, while other less fuel hungry monsters pit as late as lap 25 or later in some cases. They do so if the simulated damages are on, with collision set as ‘Always On’, with most of the assists off.
Thankfully the AI/Drivatar cars are ghosted while in the pit lane, and during pit exit, up until the stage they cross the infield demarcation line as they enter the actual circuit. So that’s helpful when they are doing extremely slow times getting back onto the circuit.
One major issue I do have though, is that when leaving the pit lane, they auto-drive so ops while the car is usually in 2nd gear, the car slips back to 1st, there’s often a huge lag, the car almost stops, and once the cars back under your control, it’s “extremely” twitchy and often over sensitive to acceleration input.
Have others noticed this?
I can’t bring my self to do any endurance racing against the drivatars! Even in short 8 lap events on unbeatable in one make races they just give up. They run a 2 or 3 seconds slower than me until I pass them, then they slow down significantly and I’m all alone with no competition. Being that money is never an issue, and the drivatars provide only minor competition, there just isn’t any motivation for me to do them. I’ll just stick to the occasional leagues that I enjoy.
I think there must be a very random usage of Drivatars on different ppl’s machines…
I’ve come across some stiff competition in many of my Pro and Unbeatable sessions in anything above 15-50 lappers.
The longer ones have taken me up to lap 10-15 before taking 1st, and at times, had to rely on the Drivatar taking an unscheduled (or scheduled) pit stop.
It’s not always so, end I do have to watch the Drivatars that I’ve earmarked as exhibiting “dangerous behaviour” so that I don’t get sideswiped, shunted, or used as a broom as they slip me around sideways and push me off the track etc.
Not every race turns out the same, each car requires particular running and the right parts to being a foothold, especially with the not so obvious race winners in a particular class.
How have you found longer races in Free Play?
I stand corrected, only placed 2nd in road Atlanta endurance. No pitting required though. I don’t use sim damage anymore since your transmission becomes damaged by default at the beginning of the race. Had some stiff competition from the drivatars in 1st and 3rd. Very surprised.
