Having the drivatars been acting differently lately?
I’ve been practicing tuning cars and turning off assists. I first get a rough tune of the car doing a test drive. After that I race the car in free play against 1 to 7 drivatars. I add more drivatars as I get the tune better. I usually start in the first row of these free play races.
After I am happy with the tune I go to a career event and see how well I do starting near the back with lots of cars to pass. A couple of weeks ago I remember the drivatars acting like wreckers. This last week they have seemed to calm down on crashing into me. However, they have started doing something else. I was racing a Yas Marina when I saw two of the drivatars cut a corner. If you race online you will see racers cut that same corner.
The experience seems to vary from person to person.
Most of my blatant wreckers disappeared quite awhile ago, but my Yas corner cutters have been there all along. Pretty much from the start in fact. They may vary in numbers and intensity, but they never fully go away. Happens on a few other tracks also, and they seem to love going “Dukes of Hazard” over the flower bed at Long Beach.
Yeah i posted about this a couple of days ago, Drivatars are no longer wrecking me however they are cutting corners, I made a thread that was pretty funny…Drivatar tried to cut the very last corner at spa and missed it by miles and slammed into the barriers. Sadly the mods didnt allow the thread
Of course they didn’t allow it, it just shows how bad they implemented the drivatars… The idea sounded good on paper, unfortunately now single player is just as bad as playing online most times. It is like racing a full field of M.Rossi…
It almost seems they were too lazy to actually program AI themselves, so they went this route and it didn’t quite work out.
I have to say that I still love the game and give them slack on most issues due to it being a launch title… Forza 6 won’t get that same slack though.
The brake checking and random complete stops the drivatars do really @#$$%$ me off… Who the hell goes from 200 to a complete stop on the Le Mans straight?!
Take out the drivatar system and Forza Vista and I don’t see why this couldn’t have been on 360…
It’s been 2 weeks since I have done any of the career. I’m almost done with it. That being said, one of the last ones I need to do is GT series. Ironically, my Thrustmaster Ferrari GTE F458 wheel add on comes today. So with that being said, I will definitely have lots of races against the drivatars this weekend. I hope they don’t wreck/ram you as much as they use to. I can’t stand that. The drivatars wouldn’t bother me at all if I could start in top 5 every race. But starting in 14th is a dumb idea by Turn 10.
I disagree, my brother, sister, stepfather, his friends, and some of my friends play.
From what I hear from everyone that the Drivatar as it continues to sync starts to really mimic players.
For example: When I race I’ll look for the closest draft possible, as long as it’s on my line, down to a couple inches (depending on speed) before I’ll break off and attack a corner from the outside line (or really deep inside line). If I’m coming up on someone and they choose to block me, I’ll back off just behind them, then try to pass them as soon as I get a good chance. But block me too many times, and I’ll look for the first chance to make you fish tail.
My drivatar seems to really drive how I do. And my friends… forget it. A couple of them are really good and give me real problems.
I hadn’t seen the drivatars cutting corners before. They may have and I just wasn’t paying attention. I am usual watching the cars around me. The corner cutting I saw was so blatant you couldn’t miss it.
I like the drivatar idea. I believe the implementation needs work. I’m not sure what statistics Turn 10 keeps so I can’t make intelligent suggestions about how to improve the drivatars. I think speed, how many good and perfect turns, passes and drafts are kept. I think number of collisions are also kept. Does anybody know what other information is kept?
If I were going to make any suggestions to drivatars, it would be to implement a qualifying session before each race. This would allow for clean laps to “train” the drivatars, earn some xp (but not cash), and allow for better starting line placement depending on best lap time, friends times, and difficulty setting.
One thing I have noticed happening much more frequently is “catch up” ai with some cars achieving ridiculous speed and grip when I am half a lap ahead of the ai and then they suddenly springboard in front of me and I can’t keep up with them for the rest of the race.
I hadn’t noticed the drivatars catching up. I remember in Forza 3 or 4 the AIs catching up was an issue. That my have been Horizon more that I think about it.
I would like to see qualifying for the career races. I think 2 laps with no drivatars would be fine except for a couple of the Le Mans courses. The best time of the two laps and the drivatar level would determine where you start.
Basing the drivatar actions on just these qualifying laps could be interesting. The only thing missing would be reactions to nearby cars. This reaction to nearby cars is the biggest problem with the drivatars.
Against my more skilled friends, I’ve noticed that on tracks like Silverstone with 3 or more laps there’s plenty of time for them catch up once they navigate their way out of the pack. This is especially true when I play guys in my car club, one of my friends not only catches me, but darts up to and past me, and then slowly gets away as I push the living hell out of my cars trying to catch back up.
But reaction to other cars is an iffy point to me, considering I’ve noticed my brother’s Drivatar goes for very brash sideswipes if I start overtaking him aggressively. Meanwhile I’ve noticed one guy from my car club goes for series of small taps to provoke a fishtail to spin out. I’m pretty sure the drivatars are pretty well suited and skilled (as per the players sync).
I honestly think it’s just at a point where people’s sync %'s are getting further up there. I know as mine has been synching I’ve been racing with more precision and aggression, and my drivatar has followed suit quite nicely.
I find this to be a good description of what is going on. As the drivatar synch goes up approaches 100% on each layout of each track, you can finally hope for a more accurate representation of other people’s driving, just as your drivatar’s behaviour will be more like yours in your friends’ career races.
As for certain drivers catching up to you, it might have a lot to do as described with them having worked their way out of the pack.
I hope they never go back to the old AI system. Tweaking the drivatar system could be beneficial, but overall, it’s a huge improvement over the AIs of past games.
I did some checking on the AIs catching up by playing the other games. It was Forza Horizon street races where the AIs mysterious catch up. The event races are in Forza Horizon are fine. In Forza 2, 3 and 4, I can pull away from the AIs and they don’t miraculously catch up. In Forza 5 I don’t see drivatars making great come backs. Once I am ahead I can usually stay ahead unless I mess up a turn or don’t have a car tuned for the course.
I must have met your friend’s drivatar this week end. He was good at hitting my car from behind and causing me to spin out or run off the track. I wanted to block that drivatar. Is there some way to do that?
I imagine blocking a drivatar in itself isn’t really an option, but I guess blocking the player may help you. I noticed that when I increase the skill level of the drivatars certain people don’t show up anywhere near as often. I assume that FM5 has some kind of internal rating system that determines how skilled a players drivatar is. unfortunately my friend is just as skilled as I am if not better.
My buddies say that my Drivatar wrecks the crap outta them which is pretty much the opposite of how I drive in Forza. I dunno I am still getting the mid turn tboners in just about every race…
