My thing about this is, if you can adjust difficulty, they’re AI.
I came to the forums to complain about this as well, it’s not so bad when all the cars are different and you can tune them, but I’m doing the Formula E series ASAP and I got to Daytona Speedway. The leader was leaving me in the dust going about 2-3 seconds faster a lap than I was, and it was just open air from the second lap to the 9th where he finally caught last place and I caught 24th on the last lap.
Completely stock cars, and every AI but that one hit the brakes at the start of both turns, but not that one.
DUDE!!!
I was playing some drivatar races last night and its gotten so bad the damn drivatars were DRIVING BACKWARDS ON THE TRACK hitting people on purpose!!!
It’s insane to make a “realistic” driving simulator where if real life mimicked this game there would be no more drivers left in motorsport. They’d be dead or in prison for murder or vehicular manslaughter.
Fixed it for you.
I still occasionally get an unbeatable one. This was on a 3 lap Rio reverse, I was going for the lead about halfway through the second lap when this other car (a friend who doesn’t even own any Forza games) came through the pack and utterly destroyed me
Does seem to have settled down somewhat though. When I first got the game it was impossible to win 90% of career races on any difficulty, now seems to be about 10%. They still get a bit confused sometimes though…
Instead of fighting with AI, I drop their difficulty down to the third lowest with 10% extra credits. That way, once I get by them, I don’t have to mess with them. At that setting they don’t chase you down. I would rather enjoy myself and make a little less.
YOU try convincing a racing robot to slow down, lol. Sounds like a Top Gear skit.
I have read about this drivatars since the release. I drive on expert I think in career. and yes the 2-3 first cars takes a lead of some seconds every time. but everytime I manage to catch up and win by 5-20 seconds. if we’re driving the same stock class cars the gap is smaller, and the same with class R-P-X. … have you guys ever considered that you are not fast enough?? there are so many people that catch up with this 1. car! and some that don’t…
I can not speak for those in lower difficulty’s. I have never tried that, but still I have never experienced that the car pulls away from the pack by 20-30 seconds.
if I had started at 1. position I would probably win by 30-40 seconds… and I would probably need to set the drivatars at the highest difficulty(witch is one ore two click higher?!)
If your lap times are top 1000 at the leaderboards you guys shouldn’t have much trouble of winning against drivatars in higher difficulty’s…
just saying…
i very rarely have any issues with the drivatars now…maybe 1 in 5 races…might get 1 extremely quick one
my setting is above average as im a very average racer but when i was just on average and got the quick ones every race
In my opinion, I think the drivatars are keeping to a time, not actual events happening on track. For example, if I hit/spin/go off track or happen to be slower at a particular point on the track, I have to drive like the blazes (like anyone else) to catch up or make up time I lost. This usually takes a lap or so, but in the instance of the drivatar, if I bash one off the track, say the Caparo T1 for arguments sake I can almost guarantee it will catch me within that lap, and pass me like I’m standing still! Not that I would condone smashing out of class cars that shouldn’t be there, but it seems that this is the level this game has dropped to! So until that’s fixed, and it possibly has, I will continue to batter these off the track at every opportunity! Such a shame! Oh and i normally play on expert to pro, and unbeatable on The Alps full, because every class of car seems to be very slow on that track for some reason. Anyone else noticed that?
Yes, they pretty much follow the braking line which is the last thing you want to do on Alps.
I’d recommend you to turn ON the “limited aggresivity” option for the drivatars. Otherwise they are too much aggressive and 1st turn become a nightmare.
With that and switching between Professional - Invencible setting, I’m having very good and clean races. Some challenges in few tracks but possible to win or catch the podium everywhere and LOTS of fun.
I thinl T10 should have a vote to keep drivatars or get rid of. And bring BACK full track Tag and Cat and Mouse. Why else should we a limo.
I know there is that one drivetar that takes off from the rest you have to catch. There is also that one guy that starts in the middle that flys through the pack and takes the lead. Depending on the track it is even on the first lap! Man that guy is annoying. Oh wait that’s me. I have them set to the average and the aggression is full on.
The thing is you have to have patients. Once the crowd of cars thins out and gets into a single line you can pass a bunch in a hurry. If that means dropping a place or two at turn 1 so be it I 'll make that up. If I don’t make any mistakes then I can beat them all. Emphasis on mistakes. I make a lot of mistakes but usually I can at least get third. But on a track like the alps you have a lot of room and you can go very fast and you can get to first before the end of lap 1.
The other day I was very mean to a driveatar though. Rio in the daybreak series American classic muscle cars. I approach the left hand turn before the narrow straight thinking I have just enough room to squeeze through an AMC AMX on one side and a Dodge of some kind on the right. They both squeezed in at the same time and we are three wide in that narrow section. Another left hand to that area that opens up and has the tire barriers coming out from the left. We are still 3 wide so I think what happens when I get as close to that tire barrier? That AMC on my left has to slow down right? Nope I zip past the barrier with an inch to spare and the AMC? Straight in full throttle, tires fly everywhere.
The drivetars may be a bother sometimes and they do some strange things but they can be very funny at times.
I actually think that Drivatars have improved a lot since Forza 5.
I’m not sure if the drivatars have improved since the last update to Forza 5. They still are programmed to do disruptive things (IMO). I can replay moments where in turns, especially the first 1 or 2 one of the cars is designated as the ‘pitter’ and you can literally see him turn the wheel into the back quarter panel of my car. The turn is going to the left…why are his tires turned to the right toward my car?? If you watch them carefully you can see that this kinda stuff is intentional. But while it’s frustrating sometimes, they present a challenge to overcome so I’m not mad at them.
Regarding car #1 with the nitrous bottle, that can be really annoying. But Turn 10 knows that it’s an issue and they’ve been trying to resolve it.
I have also seen that same behavior by the drivatars but is it the ai or the way it was trained by the driver it is supposed to replicate? I kind of think that it is the drivers the drivatars learned from. So bad behavior creates bad drivatars.
Ok heres my take, drivatars follow behavior of real on line racers…They are not technically AI… They behave like the racers they are modeled after…
Having said that I turn up the drivatars to expert and almost all the dumb crashing etc stops because the drivatars in expert are copied from expert drivers… Yes one usually take off right away but im always able to catch him and im by no means an expert driver…Ive read about people complaining about the drivatars from day one but I wonder if they actually understand they are not true computer generated AI… Also wonder what difficulty their drivatar settings are at…
In the end I think the drivatars are spot on for what was intended.I would hope they stay just as they are in the next forza release.
There is always one car in first place that is insaine. No way to catch him unless I scrape past everybody on first lap and use dirty tactics. His lap times are usually a little better than mine. But not aways. And yes I’m in the top 500 always.
I think on expert and above, the AI difficulty is what it says it is. But if you set it lower, at least one car sets the kind of lap times you see on unbeatable, so you’re basically playing on unbeatable. Make game easier, raise the difficulty. Huh? Yeah, it’s messed up.
Oh yeah, and what’s up with drivatars trying to crash me? T10 did too good a job mimicing real players “driving” styles. Even agressiveness off, when I’m lapping cars at Daytona, some slow to about 40 and weave back forth. I wonder how absolutely horrible you have to drive before your drivatar does that kind of mess.
