Drifting AWD and RWD Cars In FH5 Facts

Everyone is fussing about AWD and RWD cars drifting against one another in FH5 open world and drift events. Every post I see says the same thing “RWD is real drifting, AWD is power sliding”, “RWD is the only real way to drift”, “It’s not fair to RWD players”, “AWD cars and RWD cars accumulate points differently”. Well what a good laugh you have been giving a lot of people who know the truth. Let me enlighten you so you can turn your opinions into facts.

  1. Points- In Forza Horizon 5, drifting with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) car generally builds points faster and easier compared to all-wheel drive (AWD) because RWD cars are designed to oversteer more readily, allowing for longer, more controlled slides, which are key for maximizing drift points in the game; while AWD cars tend to have more grip, making it harder to initiate and maintain a sustained drift.

Key points to remember:
Oversteer is key for drifting:

RWD cars naturally tend to oversteer, meaning the rear wheels lose traction more easily, which is crucial for creating a controlled slide needed for high drift scores.

AWD grip can hinder drifting:

AWD cars distribute power to all wheels, providing more grip and making it harder to initiate and maintain a slide.

While RWD cars can be more challenging to master for drifting, they offer higher potential for points once mastered.

  1. AWD drifting isn’t real drifting, AWD drifting isn’t fair for RWD drifting- While most professional drifters utilize rear-wheel drive cars, yes, there are a few professional drifters who compete in AWD cars, particularly in Japan where teams like “Team Orange” have pioneered drifting with modified AWD vehicles like the Subaru Impreza, though they often need to modify the drivetrain to prioritize power delivery to the rear wheels for proper drifting techniques;.

Key points about AWD drifting:

Due to the inherent difficulty of controlling a car with power distributed to all wheels, most professional drift competitions favor RWD cars for better maneuverability.

To drift effectively in an AWD car, extensive modifications are often required to adjust power distribution and prioritize rear wheel drive.

Some notable AWD drift cars include the Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and certain high-performance BMWs, which can be modified to drift with proper setup.

Stop blaming AWD drifting set-ups for your losses. It’s the cars that win no matter what, what I like to call “Noob Drifting”. The Isetta, Autozam, Bentley Blower or 8 Litre, Donkervoort, F-100, De Luxe 5 window Coupe, C type Jaguar, 300 SLR, Aero GT, Trident Peel or P50, Brat GL, Sera, Thing, Double Cab Pick up, Willy’s MB Jeep and I’m sure others, that’s what I could think of now.

All in all it’s just a game, you also have to take into account the amount of illegal modding and score multipliers are in effect. Just drift the best you can and enjoy and keep trying to set a new high score for yourself.
