Drift features in Forza Motorsport

Announced today:

FORZA MOTORSPORT’S NEW AI AND PHYSICS MAKE EVERY RACE COMPETITIVE

17 July 2023- Chris Esaki

Forza Motorsport delivers clean, fun and competitive racing in both single-player and multiplayer. We’ve prioritized our development efforts on circuit racing with modern race cars and modern production cars. This focus impacts the entire game, from the cars and tracks we’ve included to, the new rendering features, physics, AI and gameplay experiences that we have built.

With that in mind, we want to let you know we will not have drag or drift game modes available at release. We will, however, have drag tires, as well as drift suspension, available as car upgrades and you can enjoy them in experiences like private Meetup lobbies.

Forza Motorsport will be updated after launch, so if there are Drift features you’d like to see added to the game, please upvote topics or submit new ideas in our Suggestions Hub section of the forums.

This is seriously disappointing. The first two months of forza 7 were exhausting having to create private matches just to drift. I for one won’t be buying this game at all until drift lobbies are added.

Turn10 really hates the drift/JDM community entirely. Absolutely wont be pre ordering or playing this game till they start caring about all motorsports.

Alienating an entire portion of the community is a bad move. First they teased a new Drag racing mode in FM7 that they never completely followed through with and now no Drift/Drag modes in the next FM at launch?

While the parts for these modes exist, that they couldn’t implement the modes prior to launch does not fill me with confidence as to the state of the other racing modes. It sounds like cut content due to time restraints that really shouldn’t have existed.

2 months to go, can’t wait to see what else they (don’t) have to offer.

seems like 6 years of development time where wasted away doing nothing, literally 95% of the games content is the same.

While I personally couldn’t care less for either drift or drag, I do agree it is weird they’re not in for launch as both had been well developed in FM7 and I’m not sure what more really needed to be done?

Drag in particular seems to be the most easiest thing to do.

But with their focus centreing on asphalt circuit racing and getting rid of all the odd ball stuff, maybe these modes were seen as non-core?

Plenty of potential for them to be added later but.

I already posted about this trying to draw attention to this nonsense but it didn’t get any attention. Glad yours did at least lol

I won’t be buying it until public drift lobbies are available.

Just tried jumping on FM7 to hop in to a proper public drift lobby but it seems those servers are absolutely dead =(

The optimistic part of me thinks that it may be related to this and them trying to make a new drift score system, maybe even thinking about implementing special drift events into Singleplayer which I certainly wouldn’t mind if done right.
The pessimistic part of me thinks they’re just holding it back because they want to make everyone excited about a returning feature that will be initially broken as well, like CoD MWII Tier 1 gamemodes except most people will praise it.

Disappointing really, to say the least.
I’d like to think it’s because they’re trying to balance it with the new tyre model, the new steering wheel updates etc and it’s taking longer than they wanted. Realistically, is that the case though. I hope they don’t phase it all out completely.

In additional, they need to note that “drift suspension” on a normal car VS an FD car, should hold the same angle.
From someone who drifts in real life, it’s very much achievable, with an off the shelf steering angle set up. Just food for thought.

It might be the case, and it does in a way help position FM23 as race focused game in its launch. Noticed highly positive players pools in very focused racing games compared to wider multi mode games.

I like drifting, and hope that it will be added soon. Its gona be interesting to get more predictability and control with improved tires, 8 points of contact, and 360hz readouts.

The drifting lobbies are moderately populated in FH but the 2WD crowd are mostly gone.

If you gave 2WD scope to be competitive against AWD - or just do the obvious thing and segregate the lobbies - then you’d get a large 2WD influx back drifting in forza.

agreed, RWD drifting should be the focus (AWD drifters are the worst kinda people)

Wow, that’s proper BS, I only brought the game for the drifting. FH5 drifting is a train wreck and has been that way since the start of the game, drift broken and ignored. But I had hope for the next motorsport to come and give us a reasonable drift experience and nope. How long will I have to wait for drift? can I get a refund

Why would you buy a racing simcade game to do an event that’s judged arbitrarily instead of, you know… racing?

Drag, hillclimb, rally etc should be added before drift is even a consideration.

Because it’s a globally recognized Motorsport discipline?

Drifting could be a huge hit with segregated lobbies. A bit of self damage here by not making it prominent.

That’s a dumb question, but okay slow poke here’s why, see if you can follow along… Because the last version of the game had it!
I can see why you might not like drift, it’s the hardest motorsport to learn

Motorsport or not, it’s a judged event. It’s not racing. It’s like gymnastics with an engine.

Going to need a source on that difficulty claim, because having done both myself, I can tell you sliding cars around is still not as hard as motocross. But I don’t see what difficulty has to do with including a judged event in a racing game.

There was a drift mode in FM7?

Yes, online drift lobbies were a thing there. Outside of them, there were also Rivals drift events, which have been a thing in Forza since at least Motorsport 4.

i would love to see you slide a car at 90mph sideways next to a car 1ft away clouded by smoke and still hit all the clipping points…
