Yes you need a Microsoft account…otherwise you cant play it…
You dont need a gold account though on pc
So you only need a Microsoft account, I thought you had to buy some kind of XBox Live account to play online games for Xbox and perhaps pc. Thanks for awnsering so I just have to pay the game and I can play?

Nope, you don’t need to deal with any Xbox stuff at all in order to play this on PC. Just Microsoft Account + PC that meets at least minimum requirements and you are golden.
