Do mastery 'items' go with cars?

If you gift a car, or auction it, and you’ve unlocked some or all of its mastery tree, does that survive the transfer to the new owner?

And, if it’s auctioned and doesn’t sell, does the unlocked mastery tree survive the trip back to your garage?

It was changed recently. Used to be that way but now if you gift it or auction it the mastery slots get reset. In fact if you auction it and it doesn’t sell and you reclaim it you get it back with all reset mastery slots too.

EDIT : Thanks AAORTA :+1: Appreciate the update below !

And all your hard earned skill points are gone forever.

Well, fooey

Fooey is right. If you invest SP into a car and auction it or gift it, and the SP just goes away thats unfair to both parties. If it’s going away the the SP should be refunded to the original owner. Or the SP earned especially on a gifted car it should pass along with the car. Auctioned cars the SP should get refunded back to the seller. And unsold auction cars should retain all SP.

well, at least stuff like CR, FP, XP and spins can be bought again

There is also 5 cars that have another car that can be bought with the skill points. It’s nice these are reset since the most common thing people do after pulling the perks that help them is to auction the car.

Personally I prefer it this way. As long as you keep your SP values up to a decent amount, it’s not an issue for either party. If it sells, you’ve got your use out of it and the new owner still gets to have any XP, FP, WS, SWS or CR on the car plus if you get to reclaim it, you can have them all again. Win Win situation really.

Concur. Also, it resets when the car is claimed/reclaimed. So if you have a car that you’ve used to generate other cars/wheelspins/Forzathon points/experience (like the 1995 911 RS2 or the Hoonigan porsche) then you have another run at generating all thosr things without having to buy/generate another one of them.

As a “legendary tuner” I’ve intentionally priced the 911s too high so I can skip buying the 911s. I actually turn a profit on selling the Hoonigans, so those usually go on for market price.

All this is true. And several past series this game within the game has been the only value for playing.

It was changed a while back to that scenario but more recently they changed it back so now any perks taken don’t reset. That goes for selling a car or not selling and reclaiming back to garage. The perks are still taken in either situation.

Not sure why they had it set to not resetting, as was the case in all other versions of FH, then changed it to resetting only to rechange it back to the original. It was fine either way. When resetting was there, you could at least get more XP, CR, etc. on an unsold car but it cost you to do so. Now you don’t, so don’t have to waste mastery points on an unsold car. Makes no odds either way.

Where the reset of the skill tree could be exploited was in the auction/not sell/reclaim on cars with particularly desirable skill tree items (super wheel spins, money, cars, etc.) For a price of an auction slot for the day you could recycle the car without having to buy another.

It was nice, though, because you could safely buy cars on the auction house without worrying if the mastery slot you were looking for would be used up.

If they were to do it over, I’d advocate for resetting when a new owner takes possession but leave it the same if you “reclaim” it after a failed auction. Though clearly they didn’t ask us…

That could be an option but we all know how they decide to implement things. Major issues get ignored, minor issues get fixed (eventually).
I reckon they would consider this as too much hassle so I doubt they would even look at it. Would distract from all the backslapping in what they think they’ve already delivered which is usually yet more game breaking issues that only we see once it gets thrown out to the community and they never seem to ever be able to see from inside their bubble.
