DLC Map Proposal

I’ve been thinking of potential DLC for the new Horizon game. Since Forza games have issued DLC, the focus has been upon car packs to add on the total number of vehicles in the game of course. What if the DLC were to add to the map itself? Horizon 2’s base map will focus on north Italy and the Mediterranean coast. Could it be possible perhaps to add DLC, which might expand upon said map limits. You could expand northward and have a Swiss themed DLC with mountain roads and alpine valleys, or you could go westward and expand into coastal and southern France, and perhaps Spain. Going east and south you could incorporate a Venice like city with canals and waterways, and maybe even Rome and Tuscany… In short, a map orientated DLC could be a sure fire buy for many players who might be on the fence about car packs considering the amount of cars already included in the game.

Yeah! Just like the Ticket to Ride board game series, right? Not sure about driving cars around the Venice canals, though. Tough for Playground to model considering you can’t drive cars there in the first place…

You wouldn’t need to actually include the actual city of Venice but maybe something inspired by it. Cities could have medieval and Roman structures as well as old aqueducts, bridges, etc., which could provide the landscape with character.

Not unless the development team catches a plane … oh, ten months ago … to get inspiration for the environment design and does two years worth of work before we all get tired of Horizon 2. At that point, they would be better off saving it for Horizon 3.

Man alive - all this talk of DLC and the game has yet to be released! Outside of a few trailers and brief footage clips, we’ve yet to see some proper, final-cut gameplay. I get it: people are excited about the game (I am too) and with that excitement comes lots of rumors and misinformation. Guys, give your heads a shake. We don’t even have a full car list or a visual “map” (though we do know the locations) yet, so what’s the point in all this DLC talk?

For what it’s worth, I see where you’re going with this OP, but let’s wait until the game is released first?

Totally hear what you’re saying, but these days DLC is such a HUGE part of gaming, that the developers are kind of the architects of their own rabid fanbase. What can you expect when DLC is often announced before the game even releases?

We haven’t seen the map yet. Proposal not necessary.

The southern edge of the map borders the mediterranean sea so there’s no way going South would lead to Venice which is considerably further north… In fact, going South would turn it into Forza Horizon: Africa!

Hehe, I was mainly speaking of the possibility to maybe expand upon the map with DLC. It could be a good avenue of exploration for Turn10 in lieu of car packs as the primary DLC.

Of course we haven’t seen the map yet, but it would be possible to expand east and THEN south, assuming the game is set in northwest Italy with the Alps to the north and France to the west. Have role playing games in the past not expanded their borders with add-on content? It seems possible for Forza to follow suit and eventually offer more drivable area. The next Horizon game, if there were to be one, would focus on an entirely new landscape (I’m thinking Japan would be the most likely frontrunner), so subtle additions to Forza 2 in the addition of an expanded game world should be within the realm of possibility…

It would not be within the realm of possibility, though. As I alluded to in my earlier post, the team scouts out locations prior to creating the fictional environment within the game. Without having this opportunity, you are essentially suggesting the team expand upon the existing environment with locales to which they have no reference to - something I am absolutely positive Playground Games would not attempt.

A lot of gamers seem to forget that there is more to the development of these games than just whipping up a landscape based on Google searches and designer interpretations of the region. If you want northern Europe, wouldn’t you expect it to look like northern Europe? Additionally, the amount of time Turn 10 spent in the mountains of Switzerland and the amount of data they collected to create the fictional Bernese Alps circuit for Forza Motorsport can, likely, be multiplied 10 times over by what was done to bring southern Europe to Horizon 2.

What you are expecting to be possible would mean the recreation of another environment equal to the scale of what has been accomplished already, and to bring that as DLC within the next year? No, it is not even near the realm of possibility.

Still don’t believe me? Here’s a behind the scenes video of the making of the first Horizon and the reference trip they made to Colorado. These environments aren’t just created on a whim, as you might like to think.

Again, the developer would be better off using northern Europe as a locale for a future Horizon title.

This. I’ve been trying to get people to understand the scope of what they’re asking and/or expecting to be possible but they still seem to think a whole new environment or 100 more cars or 20 more tracks can be cranked out in a week or two. SMH.

Doubt it will happen.

I would love if they included access to islands such as Sardinia which is right across Italy and France. This would be nice as other games such as Test Drive Unlimited 2 included a DLC to go to an island where a casino was to win a rare car. This gave me another idea is if they had a rare barn find only to be found on this island. these ideas of mine I hope are placed in the game and I hope you agree with me.

Now that Forza Horizon 2 has gone GOLD and will be shipping in less than 2 weeks and based on responses on forum, it will be a success!

Therefore, I know PG will take a well deserved break, but I think now would be a good time as any to discuss where next location might be.

I vote for Oahu, Hawaii! Now that TDU dev team is defunct, please Playground Games take me back to the beautiful island of Oahu.

It has it all. Long stretches of highways, tight roads, mountain roads, big city, small towns, etc. The climate is perfect for the new weather system - tropical rainy weather with severe thunderstorms, and higher up in the mountain regions SNOW (a new addition to weather system?)!

Please bring Oahu, Hawaii into the video next gen world!

PS, I’ve pre-ordered FH2 to help make Oahu location (video game) a reality!

Why that one… we’ve seen it twice already, there are so many places in the world that are nice as well and haven’t been done before. My vote goes to Germany, Switzerland or New Zealand. Germany has even longer stretches of highways, way more tight roads, lot’s and lot’s of mountain roads and also hill country roads, big cities, small towns, etc. The climate is even more perfect for the new weather system… since they could add some as well! Also let’s not forget that Germany has some great racing circuits that could be added.

No… I’m not german, just live close to it and love to go to their highway with no speed restriction! We have a German highway quite neardby that has a highway of at least 200km long that is almost straight all the time. You can go flatout from one end to the other… I always run out of gas before the road ends

Though as a DLC Switzerland makes sense, it’s close by and they could add a nice long tunnel to get there.

I think Rio! I think they should definatly stay OUT of the U.S. Other games have that.

Id rather see a british based driving game purly because theres not many around and the fact that we are filled with old buildings and lots of green green grass and plantation every were plus some of the most amazing roads around. Granted not every one thinks the same.

Japan or Australia

Should go in the wishlist thread probably

They should scan the isle of man in its entirety. That would be truly awsome! :d
