Difference between FH 2 and 3

I have FH3 and totally love the game. Been playing nonstop for a week!! I want more of it!! Sadly I’m at max Fans and all upgrades. I’m luckily about to start blizzard…but it won’t last. So my question.

Does FH2 play like FH3 physics wise?
Is that game still Relevant since I’m playing 3 now?
What’s the main difference in the 2 games besides cars and local?

Please add whatever you think would help me decide on if I wanted to go backwards or not.

Puddles and widebody kits.

They’re very similar. Obviously Horizon 3 has various improvements, but Horizon 2 isn’t that old - and it has a completely different environment, so it should be different enough to enjoy if you haven’t played it. Plus - isn’t it on sale right now ?(on Xbox anyway…)

FH3 will feel a little… flat, FH2 has some elevation changes on roads but not much.
3 is more offroading friendly.
The biggest problem (for me) was there wasn’t really any good drifting spots/roads in the last two games.

Thanks guys for the feedback!!!

Playing both and progressing in them will net you better tier rewards in the rewards section of this site. I played forza motorsport 5 for a few weeks until forza motorsport 6 came out just so I could increase my tier rewards, and picked up horizon 2 on sale last year to do the same once again. It’s a easy way to get quick credits once a week, so I try to take the opportunity to do so.

Horizon 2’s car list is way more satisfying and diverse IMHO. So is the map for that matter, while its not as big I guess, it seems to have much more to do. Just finding all the hidden parking lots alone will kill enough of your time.

All great road cars that should have definitely been in the game in place of purpose built race cars.

Yes!!! It makes absolutely no sense. I haven’t even touched the all out race cars. It upsets me that they’ve omitted these street cars for junk (figuratively) like this that has no place in an open world game.

Well, this certainly is an interesting thread and I shall add my two in a meaningful and positive way;

I understand the developers work hard to cater to gamers’ evolving needs - that being said, Horizon 2 is a far better game IMO because:

  • The car sounds are much more realistic and consistent across the board… some even exhibit changes in audio characteristics after applying upgrades
  • The career is deeper and has a more rewarding feeling. The maps are bigger and you actually have roads and streets to race on rather than just plough through fields, beaches or shallow lakes, catching huge air in the process, I might add!
  • The physics are more convincing and there are consequences to bad driving, though nowhere as realistic as the FM series, which is understandable I suppose but I’m not a big advocate of that (hey, that’s just me)
  • Lighting does not look overexposed in different views or certain areas of the map/times of day
  • Sense of speed is more immersive and believable.

As for Horizon 3, well… the change of location offers a nice change of pace, the visuals look stunning at times… but Horizon 2 just feels like a more complete and polished game. It feels as if the devs gave it adequate testing and really put a lot of love into making it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they worked just as hard, but the game has got glaring issues to be honest, which have gone unfixed after several content updates.

The “map is bigger” comment just plain and simply is not true. And Forza Horizon 2 has just as much plowing through fields.

There may be some truth to it actually. When I went back to it, the map felt a lot bigger, like it had more in the way of on road driving. The roads themselves felt longer.

About $10 :frowning:

horizon 2 is a better game than hoerizon 3. it feels so much better, the physics are more enjoyable and the map isn’t bigger than horizon 3, but it has much more sweetspots and more exciting roads to discover.
if u enjoy horizon 3 u will love horizon 2.

I like this topic and is relevant to me. I played H2 for a month around the time it came out before I sold my Xbox. It was awesome I just didn’t need the distraction at the time. Got an Xbox 6 months ago with H3 and been playing nonstop without remembering to check out H2 again.

Just recently started playing H2 again when I decided to pick up Storm Island for cheap.

Storm Island itself is fantastic rally driving. Long sweepers mixed with lot of elevation changes… flows well with any class… it’s pretty satisfying when you nail a long drift into a marker. Expect lots of that.

Physics wise it is almost identical to H3 except less grip in the rally tires, which may actually more realistic. You feel slightly more speed as well.

Coming from H3 I know how to build, tune and drive good so it’s a lot more fun.

There’s still people playing online finding a game isn’t hard.

My only complaint is I’ve found myself off-road in my LaFerrari one too many times and not sure if it tells you what kind of courses are ahead of time.

Checkpoints are more loosely placed and wider in places which is much better… it’s nice to be able to go off course once in a while and not have to be reset. And being reset seems to take no time at all compared to H3.

H2 is set in Europe and is the ideal setting for driving around in Lambos and Ferraris. And with the different PI systems a lot of Ferraris are the best cars in the game. Even the F12 which is not very competitive in H3.

The course design is excellent. Most are way better than anything you see in H3. And It’s not just the fact the roads are better laid out but they also have a lot more character. They are not perfect roads and not all freshly paved asphalt like H3

Map doesn’t feel small compared to H3.

I can’t say enough good things about H2.

If H2 had all the little improvements of H3 and left out the unnecessary ones, and was more visually refined… had the incredible sky and weather effects of H3 it would be pretty hard to top.

I bought FH2 from the sale and it’s flames. Similar to FH3 but a different experience.

Glad so many are coming down on the 2 is better side now. From the way more fun and diverse map to the greater sense of progression to the more challenging physics to the way better playgrounds to the better highways and sense of freedom to the better contained airstrip and more memorable stretches of road to the better music and atmosphere to the better PI system and class balance.

Yeah Horizon 2 will be the best for a time to come. Definitely go play it if that experience is still lacking for you. 3 is more of a game you finish and move on, even with Forzathon, 2 is much more enduring, with the crazy length of the full single player experience plus multiplayer that leads to so many recordworthy moments. And maybe some day all hit level 400 in it - level progression is way slower and feels more of an achievement. Enjoy it. Enjoy both!

Apologies for going a bit off topic. I bought FH2 on the 360. Biggest mistake I made in ages! Compared to the xbone version it’s really something to behold. An absolute mess of a game. But yeah (xbone version) FH2 is better than FH3 overall. Both are hugely enjoyable games which if you’re a petrol head as I am you’ll love. FH2 feels more challenging and has much better progression and some far better road design.
