Did Playground Games Forget The Tuners?

I should exolain that I’m primarily a Tuner, with aspirations to be a better driver and Painter.

The evidence to support my view:

  • No forum Tuner’s Garage at launch.

  • No class based Rivals.

  • No shared setups to be seen on the Rivals leaderboards.

Both Turn10 and Playground Games quite clearly worked together to decide which key elements of game play would feature in their games. Both set out to remove class based rivals which in FM7’s case produced a large backlash from the hot lapping / time attack community, and their eventual reinstatement.

Will Playground Games do the same?

I hope so because although the game is beautiful and appears packed with things to do, we all know how quickly those elements can be completed. After completing all the races and 3 starring all the stunts what is left for the game to offer. Forzathon gives us a little but without class based rivals you are left with Multiplayer racing which is something that I personally don’t like.

but you got a lot of clothes to change, right? Is not that enough? … sarcasm, of course

I hope that the features you write about will be added

As someone new to the Forza franchise I am kind of blown away by what is missing. I was sold on the demo because the driving seemed fun and with all the cars thought I was in for many hours of tweaking and racing.

I’ve played A LOT of racing games and just assumed it would have things like time trials for best laps, leaderboards for friends, races you can setup and join on your favorite tracks etc. It has none of these things. I’m currently having fun just collecting cars and driving them on the road, but this seems that’s mainly all there is.

I’ve never ever seen a racing game not have any of the stuff needed for racing in it. Very strange.

No new wheels either.

  • The lack of sub-forum was just an oversight and one that was quickly corrected once I brought it the attention of the right person at Turn 10.

  • Removal of class-based Rivals assumes they were in there to be removed. What is more likely is that they were not put in there for launch and it’s theoretically possible they’ll be added in the future once the game is past the initial enthusiastic mad dash to try and do everything at once.

  • As for the setups, I’ve no idea what might be going on there, perhaps that too is something that’s been left out for now but possibly returning in the future.

Playground have a fairly aggressive update calendar for the next few months so I don’t know that unannounced features such as class-based rivals are forthcoming soon, particularly now as the focus will be on bug fixes first, but there’s always hope that the things you want might be added at some point.

The omission of the Tuner’s Garage may have been an oversight Hiero, and thanks for getting it reinstated, but the fact that it was overlooked is in itself an indication of how little emphasis has been put into the tuning elements of this game.

Even the Tuning tab on the interface is getting smaller LOL. Blink and you can miss it. Why such a small box for such a huge part of the game!

Tuning is no longer seen as a major feature in this game by the developers, and that is sad.

With a tuning calculator, it takes 5 to 10 minutes to get the information in. It bit of work, but understandable. In FM7 I have used a lot of Raceboy77 tunes when I don’t feel like punching up values into the tuning calculator.

Whilst the guys that pull together tuning calculators and Raceboy do a great service to those who choose not to tune the level of tuning that HLR Moss is talking about and the satisfaction from getting it right goes well beyond the basics.

Getting a dune buggy to behave in the bumps whilst turning on the street and gripping and accelerating on snow / sand is a trial and error thing which requires the ability to chase your own ghost in order to perfect a tune for a specific track / driving style. Many of us enjoy this process and it is the backbone of tuning / racing comps. FH3 was set up well for this as was FM6.

All we are asking is for these basics to be carried forward into this game.

Very well said, Moss. I agree 100%.

Did they add a thing to force ppl to like tunes after 5 uses, you know, like they do with paints? If not then you are right, they DGAF about tuners

should have seen the writing on the wall when there was no rivals in the demo!!!

I’m astonished at this change/omission/oversight.

I can’t believe it.

The game is so beautiful! Some of these tracks are so awesome, all I want to do is start building up some of these amazing new D class cars to see what they can do.

And I can’t.

It’s crazy.

HLR Moss, please continue to tune. You work magic. Thanks for the series where you acted as my tuner. I think that was in FM4. I continue to improve and no longer need a super grip tune. Thanks for your work in the past and the tunes I hope to pick up in the future.

Those were good times Dave . It was a pleasure.

Thanks for the kind words, and I hope that the grip tunes I still favour are useful to you. If you are ever looking for a setup for ANY car, just send me a message and i’ll see what I can do :+1:

Wow, I have not been this disappointed with Forza before. How and where are we supposed to tune our cars. There isn’t even a practice mode like previous Forza Motorsport games. Turning laps and tweaking my cars to get better lap times is one of my favorite things to do. Just wasted another 130.00 bucks. BTW is this a car racing game or am I on a trip to the shopping mall for seasonally appropriate clothing???

They were too busy working on the d-bag creator, I mean character customization.

Thumbs up, Moss.
So have you done any tunes so I can pick up one and follow you? How about Mikey? Is Dylan around?

I sure hope they bring back the class based rivals.

It was my favorite thing to do. Racing the clock, learning to tune and chasing faster ghost cars to learn better lines.

Huge disappointment if they don’t return. Already disappointed that they aren’t there on launch

After the Rivals/No Classes debacle of FM7, which they have now reversed a year later, how does this happen? At least in FM7, we had a work around for leaderboards per division, although you could not race against ghosts, you could at least track where you were on the Leaderboards, download shared tunes, etc. If that is possible in FH4, I have yet to figure it out. Don’t understand why they would kill one of the mainstay features of the game. The web based leaderboards of FM4 continue to be the pinnacle unfortunately and that was on the 360. Don’t know why we are in 2018 and basically 2 console iterations laters still no web based leaderboards.
