Veteran Forza player

I am disappointed at the current state of Turn 10’s/Microsoft Flagship racing game, Could careless about the graphics as i have always thought the graphics has looked good from forza to forza for me its the game mechanics on how its to be played, In multi-player there is no class selection racing can’t choose to race in S class or A class, Tuning when i go to my shed after buying a car and putting upgrades in it I want to go from the shed to the track and tune it and run it yes I can still tune it but its not the same i can’t get a feel for the tune just by playing with the settings then going straight into a race I want to be able to tune on the track not in a race then when i am satisfied with the car setup then go to a race I can’t do that anymore.

Yes lots of cars to choose from however I disagree with how the pricing of the cars is done but then again i think having the whole car collector thing is very cool its different but i like it that is a new feature I like however playing single player I don’t really care for the over dramatic “drivers this and drivers that and this driver was able to maintain a core line bla bla bla” when i am playing single player I don’t want dramatic cut scenes I want to from main menu straight to race/cup championship selection and really restricting us in single player that reminds me of Dirt and how that setup is.

I don’t know about anyone else but I want Forza to go back to being like Forza 4 game play in single player you could choose from a massive list of races and championships to choose from yes those races and championships had requirements but you as a player could choose what you wanted to do you can’t in Forza 7, in Forza 4 there was no restrictions on tuning and the ability to tune and test your car and tune at the same time was better I could spend an hour on the track tuning my car and going for a drive at the same time that was something i liked doing, I also see after so many years Turn 10/Microsoft have listened to its fans in some ways but they took their sweet ass time doing it brought back the auction house and if you have a car you don’t want you can sell it back to the game and you get money for the sold car thank you, Multi-player was also better in forza 4 you had fun type racing mini games like soccer and tag and ya had class selection races people could compete in.

Forza is no longer a game for the hardcore racing fans its restrictive and aimed at more arcade players with single player having a stupid dramatic career, [Mod Edit - profanity and disguised profanity are prohibited by forum Code of Conduct - MM] Why because of greed or mere stupidity don’t you forget who got you here in the first place it was hardcore players and all you have done is slapped us in the face with this abomination

It’s not as convenient as it should be, but you can tune AND Test Drive from a Free Play race menu.

There is one benefit to the ability to load the track and then upgrade and tune… if you’re testing and want to adjust your build it takes less time to end the testing session, change the parts and then go back to testing.

But it would be nice if you could access the test drive the same way as in 6. Then after waiting for the track to load when you exit the session maybe then it can just dump you to the free play menu or something. Also, it really shouldn’t take so long just to load an empty track.

Tl;Dr most of it in detail but I’d like to clarify that Forza never has been about the hardcore. It’s a simcade, always has and always will. You only have to look at the hardcore lb’s to see how few people want to play this game as a ‘hardcore’. In some classes and tracks I’m the only person to have posted a time on the board at all… I might not be fast but I play that way for immersion rather than lap records.

Before Microsoft took over it was for hard core fans, the game modes at that time were set up so that when you first played started off with a really crappy car, you chose championships and when playing online you could play with a car you had built up and tuned and play against like minded people that was skill buying a car tuning it and racing the more wins you got from racing with the car you tuned showed you had skill this was the basic bread and butter of hard core racing.

Now everybody as far as I know gets the same car and there are now rules back when I played there was no rules nor limitations back when I played it was hard core gamers it was Microsoft who turned a wonderful franchise like Forza into a game everybody plays and I don’t mean that in a mean way but what is the point of 800+ cars if you can’t buy one of them and tune them up to race other drivers think of Forza 2,3 and 4 as building a PC, 5,6, 7 as being given a PC its the same in the races Microsoft has taken away what made Forza great to begin freedom and choice, not now we have to do what they tell us if we don’t like how they have set the game then tough like it or leave it.

The cut scenes in cateer are only during first 3 races.

Um, Forza, T10, has always been owned by Microsoft.

I think he means microsoft is more responsible for the direction forza has taken in recent years, I don’t agree with his examples though. I don’t think every bad decision has been forced by them, but theres some major ones that definitely have been. There’s usually a few things microsoft 1st party titles have in common so those are the easiest things to spot.

There are many things in FM7 that could be improved, but OP makes it sound a lot worse than it is.

  1. Access to test drive from tuning menu – instead of going to “upgrades” go to “freeplay”, load a track of your choice, you can choose any car, do upgrades and tune, change set-up whilst driving, even jump straight to race. There’s even a test drive mode, give it try.

  2. Career – Yes career needs some work, most people here agree that a more immersive “Zero to Hero” career with a motorsport focus is needed for FM8. FM7 career was just a little too rigid and repetitive, but I don’t think much worse or different to previous games.

  3. Tuning restrictions – I think OP’s main gripe is with Forced Homologation in Career, fair enough, custom championships in career is something most would like to see in FM8. But aside from career there are class based hoppers, rivals and free play where you can create almost any race you wish.

  4. Microsoft Ownership – Games like Forza cost ALOT to develop, Turn10 need significant investment from Microsoft therefore it’s just a commercial reality they will have influence on the final product. Eg. Push for 4K HDR to showcase Xbox one X. There are compromises made, but overall the product is pretty good.

Summary. FM7 has it issues but calling it an “abomination” is a bit much. Especially after all the support it has received recently. I myself have posted several threads on here where I may come across overly critical, but all considered I don’t regret buying any Motorsport game upto and including FM7.

FM7 gets a meh from me. The only thing improved in FM7 over FM6 is the ability of one player to lock up an entire multiplayer lobby. Other than that, I feel FM6 is superior in performance, online track rotations, and presentation…with FM4 spanking the both of them.

Simply, with the exception of the IDEA of homologation, I prefer FM6 in every way.

FM7 should’ve been a DLC for FM6 - homologation, current cars, track limits, everything ADDED on to the already very successful FM6.

Dirt Rally 2.0 has a nice intro to it’s classic rally mode with footage of the real thing. Personally I would love something like that in the next FM for classic cars, tracks or races.
Could be similar to the way past games would display some history behind the cars during loading scenes and most people loved FM4s intro!
