So all I wanted to do is use Controller setup 1, but swap handbrake to LB & Clutch to A. Gear up & Down to X & B.
I’m unable to save the custom setup as I have to have a button assigned to Map, even though its in the usual game menu. I’m also unable to choose a button for the Convertible roof, as all are used. I have to have a button set for Anna (never used) and Radio station scroll left and scroll right.
I could set everything up fine, if the following useless buttons weren’t forced to be able to save custom controller layouts. Anna, radio left & right (why do we need both?) & Map.
Hopefully the devs can fix this in an update soon. I’ve had to set Map to right stick up but it’s annoying when I knock it by accident already!
When I play the game tomorrow, I’ll plug a USB Keyboard into my Series X. Maybe I’ll be able to assign the commands I don’t use to keys, just so I can save the custom controller configuration I want…then disconnect the keyboard.
Go to advanced controller settings and swap the hand brake and clutch as well as the shift buttons there. Won’t have to remap anything that way. Had the same problem you’re having.
Took a little bit to figure out, but the only button that is not configured is left-stick-button. Assign one of the top dozen or so functions to left-stick-button and you’ll have enough for both shifts and clutch.
Booting the game back up this evening, i now have the usual switch options at the top of Advanced Controller settings where they usually were. They were missing yesterday and this morning for some unknown reason.
Still no way to add the convertible button as if i add that, i’m still forced to assign a button to Map, even though the default controller layouts don’t require it… i just wont bother with the new feature.
Batteries are dead in my wireless USB keyboard so cant try to map a key to that just yet.
Yeah I don’t think you’ll be able to map both shifts, clutch, and convertible. If you go to the custom configs and clear one, you can see all the options that MUST be set. There are only three inputs left after setting the mandatory ones.
Yeah, i think i’ll wait until the devs sort the mandatory buttons on custom controller configs out. It’s listed on the cross platform problems list, so should get fixed at some point (hopefully).
I dont need to have “Anna” or “Radio” and “Map” using up controller keys, I’d like to use different camera views and telemetry options. Having these undesirable keys forced on you is messed up.
After putting in 12 or so hours in FH5 so far, I feel the need to point out the frustrations that I, and probably many of you, are having in regards to input mapping, feature disabling, and controls with an Xbox Controller. The fact that we can change input mapping is a huge step up from previous games, but making some features necessary to map in order to change any inputs completely negates the purpose of mapping custom controls in the first place. I’m specifically talking about the MAP, ACTIVATE ANNA, and FORZA LINK functions. In my hundreds of hours in FH3 and FH4, not once has any of my friends or random players I’ve met online ever wanted or needed Anna, and most of the “features” it provides can be accessed more easily from the map itself. I get that the devs want to make it easier for people to find things to do, but it’s redundant and doesn’t serve a community-desired purpose. And speaking of the Map, why does it need an assigned button when it comes without one in the first place? If you tried to save the default mapping profile, i.e. the default controller setup, it won’t even allow you because the Map doesn’t come with a button binding to begin with. It’s almost comical. Going to the map from the main pause menu is fluid and natural, and any player, new or long time supporter, will recognize this. And another thing, Forza Link isn’t a necessary function to the game anyway. The only reason I’ve seen the use of Forza Link phrases is for BM’ing and trolling in online lobbies. Everything that could be accomplished with this “feature” in a cooperative sense would be better communicated in an Xbox or Discord party chat.
Please let us customize our controls without restrictions. There is no point in giving us the option, only to have it become completely useless with these silly inhibitors with useless functions. On a keyboard, fine, whatever, we have tons of useless keys we could bind every function to. But a controller only has a few buttons and controls to take advantage of, and cluttering them with functions that we’re not gonna use is ruining the experience for us. Let us bind whatever function to whatever button we want, it’s that simple.
100% agree, the binding situation is terrible, can’t use telemetry without unbinding other stuff or doing something daft like left stick up/down to toggle pages. We can turn rewind off in difficulty but can’t have it unbound, that’s been a gripe for me for multiple games, why let me remove it from the game but force me to bind it?
As the title says, I think it’d be great to have available keybindings for turning on/off Traction and Stability control systems. (Or make it save per car instead.)
Reasoning: Not all cars benefit from both or either of these systems. For example, I hop into something like my McLaren F1GTR set up for top speed. Its rear-wheel-drive with some odd thousand horsepower. It spins tires all the way up to like 120MPH and takes corners pretty angrily. It needs Traction Control badly. But I jump down into my little ricer 300 horse drift car, and instantly traction control is a massive penalty for that car’s designed operation. Yet I turn traction control off and, tada, it works just fine.
I guess I’m not the only one that’s miffed by this. Just booted it up, went to preadjust controls and ran into this. To add to the ‘why does this need to be assigned’ list: Rewind. I have it turned off, why does it need to take up a precious controller button anyway?
Hello, this is my first post, and I haven’t been lurking this forums so I apologise if I should have posted this somewhere else, I took a quick look at other topics and found none with this issue.
The problem is that, if you want to change one control bind, you create your own control profile, I believe there are ~8 options that you have to bind, with 12 available buttons on a controller. The funny thing is that some controls that are required to play are things you can simply access through the menu (for example Map or Photo mode), other are things I will probabily not use at all, like Anna.
Another thing that is odd is that in the stock scheme one of the controls that becomes “required” in your custom scheme (Map) is not actually binded, so I do believe this is a bug, as I never had any ot those problems with Forza Horizon 4.
Is there any thing I could be doing wrong? Apart from using an XBOX instead of a PC.
Keep in mind I also have attached a keyboard and mouse (but unlike MSFS Forza does not recognize them).
I completely agree. I play with the G920 Wheel and there just aren’t that many buttons. Some requirement binds can be actually turned off from the settings (Anna, Link), but they’re still mandatory binds meaning I have 2 buttons that do nothing when clicked on but I can’t map them to other features. It would be great if the list of mandatory binds would be shorter allowing us to map the controllers and wheels more freely. I’d love to lower the roof on a convertible without having to reach out for my keyboard.
Same. It absolutely blows my mind that this was overlooked. Once you start diving into manual with clutch for controller and remapping, you quickly find out that they force you to setup Anna, Forza Link, and Rewind. You are forced to give up convenient features people would actually use such as the previous station. I understand that the tutorial probably forces you to rewind at some point but let me overwrite and save without mapping a button for now.
It’s also hilarious that this exact problem was very clearly pointed out back in the beta for Forza 4 and they still broke it. Somehow this was re-introduced into this game and approved.
Another point, why not have an “import settings from previous Forza”? I shouldn’t have to reinstall Forza 4 just to look up my settings.
It’s very annoying. Cannot effectively use my telemetry to tune my cars, all because the game finds it necessary that I have a map keybind, when I can just enter the map rather quickly and easily from the pause menu. I hope the devs look into this soon. I don’t want to have to buy a different controller with paddles just do do the same job I should be able to do on my Normal Series X controller.
